I hate the concussion injuries, and for players who seem especially susceptible, or who through bad luck have a lot of these injuries, they really shouldn’t risk it. It’s just too dangerous, and we still don’t know enough about the long term consequences.
Good luck to Ben in his future endeavours.
We do know the long term consequences.
"A survey of more than 2000 retired professional players found that those with a history of multiple concussions were three times more likely to have been diagnosed with clinical depression. Another study of death certificates found that the death rate from neurodegenerative diseases was three times higher for pro-footballers than the general population."
The consequences are depression, suicide, early on-set Alzheimers, memory loss, dementia ect.
It would be a horrible decision for someone so prone to concussions to play on. At much as it hurts now, he doesn't want to be dead by 55. Even just a few more concussions over the next few years could lead to that.
