I hate the concussion injuries, and for players who seem especially susceptible, or who through bad luck have a lot of these injuries, they really shouldn’t risk it. It’s just too dangerous, and we still don’t know enough about the long term consequences.

Good luck to Ben in his future endeavours.

We do know the long term consequences.

"A survey of more than 2000 retired professional players found that those with a history of multiple concussions were three times more likely to have been diagnosed with clinical depression. Another study of death certificates found that the death rate from neurodegenerative diseases was three times higher for pro-footballers than the general population."

The consequences are depression, suicide, early on-set Alzheimers, memory loss, dementia ect.

It would be a horrible decision for someone so prone to concussions to play on. At much as it hurts now, he doesn't want to be dead by 55. Even just a few more concussions over the next few years could lead to that.

It's his life, if he wants to risk those conquences then so be it.

Sad if true, seems you can't fight genetics. You'd think given they had all of 2017 to work on his hammies yet the issues remain unresolved then it may well be for the best. Maybe a rookie spot for 2018 to see what unfolds.

Was having a chat with my dad this morning, he's friends with members of the Sinclair family.

Apparently Benny's leg injury hasn't come up and he's been delisted by the club. Info I have is that he's personally devastated and wanted to play on.

A great shame if true. I really rated his attack on the man and the ball and would have loved to see him get an uninterrupted crack at it.

Do you think Sinclair would be happy for you to post this rumour?

Aren't you the guy who was railing Fas about "playing the depression card" to get back home to WA even though he had never asked for a trade? This is pretty tame in comparison to that...
I don’t understand the comparison. It doesn’t make sense to me that someone with family connections to Sinclair would post a rumour like this. Basically I’m calling BS on this rumour.
He may well be delisted or retire but I doubt the OPs story.

Always thought he was one of our most important players for what he brought to the team. Good defender who could break the lines and who I thought had decent skills. All the best Ben.

FWIW, I heard the exact same story from a connection to the club that I have about a month ago. I posted it on here somewhere...

JMac doesn't understand why people who have 2-3 degrees of separation with a player would post on big footy. So it can't be true!

I thought this was one of the reasons big footy was here to share this type of info somewhat anonymously.

He could be Ben's cousin but he isn't going to say that. The people who post on here with tidbits are likely going to protect themselves. So perhaps the relationship described is not true, but the info is on the money, and sad for Ben if so.

Seriously? If you don't understand the comparison then some serious self reflection is in order.

Loved Sinkers when he was in, one of my favourites.
He was really improving in 2016 so it's a shame that he missed most of this year.

Always feel for a young guy who can't get a solid run at it due to injury and other things outside his control.
However it probably is far too risky for his own future well-being to push for a few more years of AFL.

I wish him luck in whatever comes next, from all accounts I've heard he is a great bloke off-field too.
