Opinion Ben Sinclair - Never again

I don't care what any of you say... I was the biggest sinclair hater, wanted him delisted last year and most of this year. But you are blind if you don't think his move back has been a success. Live with a turnover, every player does it. Mind you he had no one to kick to anyways. Wasn't his best game, i felt porpoise was to big for him and a change was made i think, but he has been very good the last few weeks. Nonetheless Marely is the guy everyone should be talking about. Gun.

Blair and Mawell were both worse than Sinclair tonight. He makes a few mistakes but he broke the lines several times tonight and he does well enough versus the opposition small forwards to justify his position in the side. It is getting increasingly difficult to find a match up for Maxwell because he is so poor defensively, he is just as poor a disposer of the ball as Sinclair and he doesn't have his line breaking ability. Blair was horrible tonight and shouldn't play next week with this form line. Sinclair is still a young player and has improved a lot the last 5-6 weeks, there's no reason why he shouldn't keep on improving. Do we really think the other two will?

I think it's pretty douchey bumping your own threads when he plays his first ordinary game in some time (I don't think he was even that bad tbh)

Maybe he's Buckley's project player. Malthouse had Tooves. Took him a while before we started rating him. I don't rate Sinclair. Yet. Bucks obviously sees something in him. Hines drafted him.
I'll go with "The coaches know best".

He looked much better in the back half of the ground this evening.

Who was he playing on? Got to admit he looked ordinary tonight. His major, perhaps only weapon is his speed, and beyond that he lacks poise and class. He looked great last week when able to run the ball out of defence, but seemed forever chasing tails tonight. His small frame is does not inspire confidence in his ability to win a contest.

Elliott, who barely got a touch, was worse than Sinclair, while Seedsman dropped out of the game. All three players would be disappointed with their game tonight, though in varying degrees.

The good news is they are only 20 and 21 years old and have played 29, 34 and 24 games so great experience and learning for them all.

Sinclair's kick to the opposition was a disgrace, but unlike certain members of our team (Heath Shaw), he gets back on the horse and keeps trying to contribute. He has played very well in the back 6 and is an adequate replacement for Toovey until next year. I think people need to just accept that. Sinclair is doing OK considering many of us wanted him de-listed last year.

Maxwell was atrocious tonight. Always the third tall who gets maxy seems to have an alright game.

Shaws turnovers were more hurtful than sinclairs tonight

And to bag out Sinclair's turnover too much is wrong. How many times does Swan and co turn the ball over in midfield? The nature of Sinclairs position in that he will ocassionally turn the ball over and he plays BACK LINE, therefore the opposition bloke who marks his kick will probably have a shot for goal. Makes sense.

How does Heath not get "back on the horse" ?? Big call.

Just to add to the above, Heater never goes anything less than 100% at any contest. Sure he has a few clangers and dropped marks like any other player but he always contests, runs hard all over the field and gives his all every game. He is as passionate as they come and imo is the definition of getting back on the horse!

Ok, sorry, poor wording by me. What I mean is, Heath give 100% - yes. But if he gives away a dumb free early (like today, like against port, like against Hawthorn, etc) then it usually costs a goal and ADDITIONALLY he then often will get really pissed off and do more stupid stuff throughout the course of the game.

haha, yeah he's good for those stupid frees every 2 out of 3 rounds I'd say.

I was about the biggest Sinclair potter there was but I conceded that he has turned around his game in the last few weeks. Tonight he did some average things but he still did ok. He is still learning the spot and realistically we have no one to take that spot at the moment. With a full list however I can't see him getting past heater, Marley or toovey who all play the role better than him. He is depth/best 22 (with injuries) at the moment, but he could still become a decent player there.

He was very poor last night and I think anyone who was there will find it hard to disagree with me. It's the things you can't see on TV.

He is constantly in no-man's land as the ball comes into our defensive fifty. He is wide of his opponent, looking in completely the wrong direction and by the time he's realised where his man is he's too far out of position.

Is this poor kid going to be subjected to this type of negative analysis after every game?

He was better than solid tonight and apart for 1 costly turnover, played a fair game. Love his endeavor and will in time become a vgood Collingwood footballer...

So many reactionary critics jumping on the hate sinclair bandwagon after a bad game, and after ignoring 4 good games.

disgrace.

This is ridiculous. He had a poor game and people are saying he had a poor game. Some people are too precious. When Swan has a good game he's lambasted for it, simply because it wasn't amazing. Sinclair is not the only player who gets criticised.

Also, the comments on here about Sinclair's game are no more reactionary, in fact they are far less reactionary, than comments regarding his run of four 'good' games (he's contributed, but has not been a world beater) and how he cannot be criticised for a poor performance because of them. He has had many more bad games than good ones this year and those who think he is beyond reproach because of a run of games in which he was nothing special but played a role well enough need to have a little more perspective in my opinion.

I am not a Sinclair 'hater' and in fact I have praised his efforts over the past two or three games. He has been ok. The fact, however, is that he is a very limited player who is lightly framed, lacks awareness, has next to no positional sense and has sub-standard footskills. He has had many more games where he has been carried than games in which he has genuinely contributed and the jury is still out.

If Swan, our captain (who is not a great footballer either but is better than Sinclair and has been all Australian), Nathan Brown, Seedsman and Darren Jolly are not above criticism, then this kid isn't either. Lighten up. Noone hates him. Some of us just don't rate him and think we can do better. I'm one of them and I'm certainly not a 'disgrace' because of it.
