Opinion Ben Sinclair - Never again

Good game yesterday, he is progressing well and has earned his spot. I originally didn't think he'd make it but my opinion has changed recently. As long as he keeps improving, he deserves to keep getting opportunities.

Sinclair has been a revelation since playing across half back.
Thought he was brilliant and as others have said his disposal has improved as well. Maybe that's what he needs, time away from the pressue of goal kicking to build his skill up. If it's any coincidence the last badly maligned player at the pies was Toovey and he proved his knockers wrong.

People seem to forget that he's been a backman for all of 4 months, he hasn't even done a preseason with a backman's mindset yet. The improvement he's shown is remarkable since his first game down back and is well and truly in our 22 for 2013.

He's far from a front runner too, he has been pretty good in both our losses since going back (Port and GC).

Tooves was maligned, not by me, but did prove the knockers wrong, but hardly the last badly maligned.

Have you heard of Cam Wood, Barham, Cook, Ceglar?

Not having a shot mate, just hoping he can keep getting better

Trust me Presti, I want to be proven wrong and see him with a premiership medal around his neck.
I would be truly thrilled.
Just saying that many maligned players end up playing suburban footy, because they weren't good enough.

Whats your point exactly? Waht does randomly shooting off names of failed players prove? Every club has players every year who dont make the grade.

Sinclair is more comparable to Johnson and Toovey. The players you named have no parallels at all

Wood and Cook failed because they had bad attitudes. Barham was a late pick that did not work out. Ceglar hasnt even failed yet, we just moved him on because he was behind Witts and Grundy. In fact hes more likely to be a premiership player in 2013 than any Collingwood player.

Sinclair is playing good honest football. He is definitely a small defender as opposed to a small forward.

Loses his spot when Toovey comes back in simply because Toovey is better in the air, quicker and is equivalent in footskills. However, for now Sinclair is holding his spot.

I think if we drop Sinclair, then Shaw goes more defensive and maybe Harry O needs to go back as well. Otherwise Seedsman has to play a lock down role.

I still think Sinclair is a fair way off top 22, but he deserves his spot at the moment.

Huh? If Toovey comes for Sinclair, it should allow Shaw to play a more offensive role. And don't forget Williams to play that lock down role.

Agree.
Sinkers had a very good game.
Whether or not he plays poorer when we lose is moot as the majority of players have to also by definition.

As it stands Sinclair is an auto selection at least for the rest of this season. He was good again on the weekend but disappeared a bit in the second half. The point though is that when the match was there to be won he was very good so I don't really get any of the comments that he only plays well when the side plays well (he's played quite well in a few of our losses as well I've noticed). Also his field kicking isn't half as bad as some are claiming. I think people really need to disassociate themselves from his form early on in his career and as a small forward to what he has produced the last half season. Since moving back he's proven almost everyone wrong and has proven his worth as an AFL quality defender. Good on him because I thought his career was over at about round 5 this season.

My point is that many maligned players do not make it.
Presti suggested that Toovey was the last maligned player and he proved his critics wrong.

I'm saying that he is far from the last maligned player at Collingwood.
I can't dumb it down any more for you.

It is like we have cloned Ben Johnson.

Speedy small with an initial questionable disposal in his early years that is slowly starting to become more reliable as he gains more experience.

Kudos to Dale Tapping for the positional change.

I just don't trust Sinkers yet when the pressure is on against the good teams.
And he doesn't defend we'll especially in the air. Might be fixable I guess Ben Johnson proved that, but I'd be hoping Daisy comes back and takes his place.

"Sinkers"? Sounds terrible.
Sinclair is derivative of St Clair, but we can't call him "the saint".
"your gangsta nick name generator" spits out "White Chinaman".
We could try Scratchy, Two-time, Cheddar or Melon balls.:D

Sorry you have misinterpreted.

I'm saying that without Toovey, if we also drop Sinclair then Shaw has to play more defensive. Once Toovey is back, I think he and Marley both have a spot to continue to allow Shaw to play offensive (and Harry O.) Sinclair however still looks the one who will make way for a fully fit Toovey.

Been playing some good footy and people have to acknowledge the brilliant move of the coaching staff to turn him into a small defender, it has thus far turned his career around.
