Keen observers would have seen this in patches over the past two seasons, however injuries have held him back. If fit, he is our second best small defender behind Williams.
Been defending Sinkers as a defender for 12 months now after his great start got derailed by injury. Good to see he's not letting me down :)

I thought he did his job maybe I was watching a different game.

In fact besides the Ox & White I thought our defense did their job tonight......and did it well.

Did that spud Hawkins kick a legitimate goal on Browny tonight?

He didn't star nor did he stink up, he did his job I'm not disagreeing with you there. The problem is for him that Langdon and Williams who are locks didn't play and Sinclair and Ramsay played better than him.

My mate arrived during the 4th qtr and on seeing Sinkers, asked me 'Who's the big bloke?' He played well. Better than Ramsey, but the latters drilled passes looked potentially damaging. Corey Gault could challenge Jesse White for the forward.

Sinkers is exactly who we need to play on the Rioli, Walters and motlops of the afl. They all toweled us up last year as Toovey was too slow to defend them now. Seriously, Walters and Rioli kicked 8/9 goals on us and were the difference in us winning and losing.

Hopefully he can stay fit and use his speed, defensive ability and intercept marking not only to stop the fast small forwards, but can use his foot speed and kicking to rebound for us.

Honestly never noticed how good a mark he was for his size before tonight.

I'll put my hand up and admit I've been a knocker but credit where it's due.

Just needs to get a haircut and life will be sweet. :)

He's made it then.. the Feburary star.

TG, Sinkers has also performed well in other months! Bit harsh to label him a pre-season star. It's his injuries which have intervened and held him back over the journey. The guy needs a good run. If he remains injury free, let's judge him then.

IMV, he was ok without being in the best
He has one really good skill, blistering pace, but I think he needs a lot more than that
I've never been truly convinced about him but as posters say "Bucks knows best"

Yes, Sinkers did "play big" didn't he? Let's hope he can continue to build on this solid start. I was a doubter, but the young man killed it last night, especially so in the last.

As for challenging White for the forward line spot, I reckon my 15 yo daughter would give the poor guy a run for his money. He is playing with very little conviction and decisiveness.

Fingers crossed he can get a clean run at it through injury because he's always looked to have something going for him down back.

For mine its because the back half allows him to run with the ball and the play will unfold in front of him, but up the other end he's finishing off the work of others which just didn't suit him.

I'm concerned a little still by his ability one on one, but the intercept marking we saw last night could be something that lessens that vulnerability. Early days in 2016 so hopefully he can carry last night's form through.

Tooves looked OK and then he shanked out on the full.... Again..

Don't think he's best 22 any more

I think we will play 7 defenders (1 on the bench) and right now my 7 are:

Brown, Reid, Marsh, Williams, Langdon, Sinclair and Toovey.

Toovey in a desperate battle with ramsey. I thought toovey did some really good defensive things last night when everyone else was only thinking attacking. You need guys like that. But if ramsey can also do those things and also offer more offensively then he gets the nod.

I agree, he always starts seasons strong but just can't get any momentum after injuries early. He plays if fit, looks great when on song and I like Ramsey also.

Like I said above, I like Ramsey but we also need to be careful to balance the backline with some experience which becomes super important in those closer games.

If Toovs and Ramsey and neck and neck surely you play Ramsey. Toovey ain't gonna be a part of our next premiership and I doubt he's best 22 at the end of the year, I have a feeling he's purely surviving on reputation now.

Didn't rate him before playing one pre season game hasn't changed my opinion of him.

I get the whole concept of playing the kids but I think there's a critical mass of when that's beneficial. I think we have enough 'kids' or youthful players in our permanent best 22 we don't need to gift people spots based on that or they become complacent and aren't encouraged to develop that competitive work-ethic. What should happen is that the best player is chosen for every spot now if we're serious about winning a flag to promote self improvement within the players. Gifting spots is for when you're a bottom 4 team and desperately need to just get experience into your future and we're not there. Personally I think Ramsay is better than Toovey nowadays but if Toovey becomes rejuvenated and recaptures old form then I'm all for playing him ahead of someone younger.

Disagree TG if his hammies hold up he will be our most important small back man........book mark it!
