Ok.... I hate, i very much hate to bag our players but boy does ben Dixon frustrate me!!!
Every second match this bloke decide "today I am gonna show how tough I am" and runs past the ball to hip and shoulder a bloke instead of getting the damn football and doing something that really counts. Ok amny teams accuse us of being weak and not hard at it, but I really think that this sort of stuff is not the way to answer the critics. C'mon ****o you have talent go hard at the ball. Get it lay it off or kick a goal but dont think by belting a bloke you are prooving your tough..... Go hard at the footy ...thats what I want anyway...

Hi Gino. Yea, ive been a bit of a critic for awhile about Bens lack of scoreboard results this year too. Even questioned if he didnt put some majors on the board soon if a trip down to the Stangers might not have been waiting in the wings for him.

Yet, he did respond with easily (imho) his best game for a good six weeks on Saturday. Not only was he still doing the grunt work (loved the body slam on Campbell, he was also (which i thought had previously been missing) providing constand leads (where WHERE was that free in the 3rd for holding!?!?!) kicked three and helped provide a couple more.

I guess both you and I expect more from him as i believe he is a very talented player who probably hasnt done justice to himself just yet. Still, the whole side, not just Ben had a bad patch there for a while. Lets hope that both Ben and the Club are over that and can go on to better things from here.

Cheers.

Hey Il Gino, you've just posted all the reasons why I like Dikko. He's HARD at the man AND the ball. Opposition backmen are beginning to fear the man. As long as he continues to perform within the rules, I reckon Dikko and his crunching hip'n'shoulders are just the ticket.

3 goals on saturday too - pretty good return. It's also probably been his most consistent years as well. Go Dikko - kill the bastardos.

Dikko

Dikko is an awesome player when he wants to be, but he definately needs more consistency. The body slam on Campbell was quite funny except when he pushed Campbells head into the ground as well, that just topped it all of. He should save the big bumps for when he is shepparding and keep his eye on the ball the rest of the time.

I think that if he keeps on taking players out, he will get reported very soon, even if it is a fair bump. You know what umpires are like!

Hope the Mighty Hawks can get on another winning streak.

Good Luck

i guess in a way ints a bit of a worry that he has been so aggressive but also its been good. Its a worry because sometimes he just takes it too far and he will soon get reported, but also i think it has helped his game out alot more, i mean he has the body strength to do it, but he just needs to know when to do it and when to back off..

The way I see it there's both positives and negatives

a) he's not letting others intimidate him - which you need, he won't shy away from contests - that has to be a positive

b) he's perhaps wasting too much time and energy on fruitless persuits which arent winning us the ball, or converting into goals

However, having said that I think he played a great game last weekend, and that bodyslam on Wayne was definately worth it for entertainment value!

I think the player we need to worry about giving away careless free's and putting himself into the position of being suspended is Croady. His temper is good - but a little unruly at times and often results in a goal to the opposition

Having only seen the videos of our games I probably have a different perspective but I have thought ****son to be probably the best exponent of the "aggression" stat they brought in at the Hawks this year.

He might miss the ball a few times but he DOES cause turnovers with his attack on the opposition defenders. Many others Hawks have only given away free-kicks.

Personally I love ****o's work. He works hard to ensure opposition defenders are looking over their shoulder and that can only be good for us.

The only criticism I think we could level at him is at times he bumps rather than tackles. He can still hurt and intimidate blokes in a tackle and I would like to see him use it a bit more.

As for the suggestions he doesn't convert his efforts into goals, I think some of that is reflected criticism that at times we haven't converted ground level opportunities. ****o always looks best as a leading type rather than a crumber.
