Some of the best BF i've read for a while.
On the Matt Nichols thing. I'm assumming that this paper is not exactly the Herald-Sun.

I think you took it the wrong way, I woulda stopped had Rob Inness said Yes. Each time one said no I tried another, never wanted 5-6 just one of local guys with GV experience woulda been great . . . . shoulda made it clearer sorry.
Bonnie Doon must be offering a lot of cash Doona, as im fairly sure the offer to play the same clubs 5-6 times a year is not very enticing.
These blokes going, how will they cope with the ferrals in them there hills?
As Im sure our friend Matt would appreciate, Bonnie Doon isnt the most pleasent place to watch or play a game of football.

Does the ground still have a fall of 1to2 from goal to goal??

Im told they have a Black Run snow skiing sign mounted to the goals on the high side.:D

Now, I can just remember back in the old days, before the clubrooms up the top end were built.

The change area consisted of a tin shed appox 4m x 4m, no showers, a few nails on the wall, and by the time you ran out onto the ground, up to the other end goals you were knackered.

But you had plenty of time to get changed and get out there, as you were the only game, no seconds or thirds.

Mmmm, maybe that's what the VCFL might be looking at, an innovative idea, like praccy matches, one 26-man a side, probably still get the same amount of people involved.

Start the game at 1pm, maybe go for 5 - 6 quarters. All over by about 4pm, everyone should be able to stay back for a beer, no excuses to leave early.

The more I think about it the more I like it, what is John O'donohue's phone number?

They will be handy players, some are good friends and Im sure they'll do ok :thumbsu:

Have heard that Broadford youngster Michael Gillard has signed at Bonnie Doon. Wondering whether this is true or whether he is training there at the moment?

Chris Dunne, a bloody good footballer who could be playing in the seniors of a Goulburn Valley Football League side with a little bit more commitment.

You cannot have it both ways. You cant herald the arrival of higher class players into a lower league like RDFL from Northern Div 1 or ex VFL and then smash the players who are high quality going into a lower League again. If Doona recruited 5 players from Seymour who are dual premiership players aged 24-28, would you write a piece asking why would they leave and why not do the hard yards and stay longer in the higher league?
It would nt be done and hence my last comment is being equitable to all leagues.
I think you have made a mistake in writing " the worst" and could have gone with "the smaller & weaker". Over and out on this.[/quote]
Would have to agree with you there GG.
Its a joke how recruiting from higher leagues can be seen so differently.
Why is this Broadford player so diiferent to players that choose to leave the VFL to play in the country?
Is there 1 rule for higher leagues and a different rule for the district leagues?

I think we are all jus disappointed for Doona who brought the club a long way forwad last year. Players come and go, this is the 4th time Chris has left and everyone except Doona knew it long before Chris rang him last week. I think the big fella is more upset to lose some of the other fellas but it aint there fault if I was ten years younger Id jump at the offers too. The worst thing about all this is the timing it doesnt give a lot of time to recruit

I'm sorry that journalists have a bad reputation, and I am one of the biggest followers and supporters of country footy, who hurts to see small clubs go down the gurgler. I think the VCFL's treatment of smaller competitions is a travesty. If GG didn't post my article on this thread, none of you would have read it. I wrote it for a particular audience. I wasn't taking a potshot at the BDFL, I was making a point about Chris Dunne, a bloody good footballer who could be playing in the seniors of a Goulburn Valley Football League side with a little bit more commitment.
Has GG broken some sort of journo code?
Shouldnt this free press thing you write for be read outside of your exclusive audience?
I would say you were having a pot shot at both the B&D and Chris Dunne. Is this the type or acticle you always write or is it a personal thing between you and Chris Dunne?

Heard that Tatong and swannie are struggling for numbers on the track at the moment. Any truth or is it still a month too soon to make those observations

Way too early splasher. My mail is that Bonnie Doon already have the cup wraped up. They have gone all out with the recruitment.
Where have all the Tatong boy's gone, as it looks like the big 100th wont be as big as they predicted.
Would be interesting to see if Goorambat loose too many, but the early money would have to be on Bonnie Doon.

The feet of the goal umpire at that top end are level with the head of the goal umpire at the downhill end.
Ironically, in the near 40 years I've been involved with BDFL footy, many close games at Doon have been won in the last quarter by the side kicking uphill.
As my old school mate, Jack Dyer used to say (.. he was still at school when I arrived), footy is 90% physical and 20% mental !

Swannie only started training this week, had about 35 the first session and about 25 the second session. Numbers wont be an issue.

I don't think it will take 10-15 (although that would be handy). Damien King and David Renkin are back on the training track , both are handy, having Fritsch providing a focal point up forward will also be handy. We moved the ball forward plenty of times last year, but just didn't convert. These's a few others in the pipeline so watch this space.

No-one on the training track though. Ive been told you guy's have been training for a few weeks and are getting 1 or 2 on the track.

Longwoods training numbers at this early stage are usually very low then once the AFL start the numbers pick right up and usually by round 1 the two sides that run onto the ground have all had at least three or four training runs under their belt. Not ideal preparation granted, but at this level of grass roots footy its ok.
Rogerdodger your not really an old codger!

Wednesday training for a warm up CD.
Once a week in Feb and also for the spectators who come along to cheer .. if you know what I mean.
The mexicans down south like their siesta when it's hot. I's only other players on the bigger pesos who are crazy enough to burn it in the heat! Autumn is only 3 weeks away .. check it out then.

You beat me to the response to the wine cellar man by half an hour!

CD.. old son.. you must declare further of your hand to Ajax123 and the Veggie Man to reveal your observations and sources therof.
Not bad comment - but not right on just yet. But it does reveal some insider trading!
Maybe the Dodgeball could assist in exposing the CD!
[ As Dougie Hawkins once told me .. if you grow carrots, use plenty of Namure!!]

Hey Carrot and Specko.
Been chasing a few leads on CD even sent a PM of which he has not replied. Thinking he or she has ties with the club and am indevouring to find out who the mystry person is.
Bonnie Doon must be in the money this year. Carrot, whats the chances they see the end is nigh and may be clearing out the bank account before the club folds without a home? Just a thought.
Tatong and Goorambat are unussually quiet.
Any news down at Redleg Stadium, as when your out of the loop getting any information is like fishing for Barramundy in the Goulburn!
