Heh, I haven't really been following it at all this year.

So much ill informed comment on this board !

Frankston is still a hike for the players, although not as far as Bendigo.

I suppose it will be an excuse to spy on StKilda at their future training base at Seaford.

Hey guys, Bendigo are playing at Frankston tomorrow right? I was prepared to go, and looked in the paper this morning and there was no mention of Bendigo playing today or tomorrow

Anyway, assuming they've left it out, what i would really appreciate is, if someone is able to, a list of the essendon listed players numbers. I should be able to spot the obvious couple like Bock and Neagle, but say guys like German etc.. i'm really interested to watch. Cheers in advance for anyone who can help with this.

It's next week. They have a bye this week.

Bendigo refreshed and hungry for a win

Essendon's first pick in the 2008 NAB National Draft (pick No.5 overall) Michael Hurley will make his long awaited return to football this weekend when he lines up with Bendigo in the VFL.

The 19-year-old key postion prospect suffered bone damage in his wrist six weeks ago when he was right on the verge of an AFL recall.

He has played one game for Essendon - Round 1 against Port Adelaide - and Bendigo coach Adrian Hickmott said he is a big 'in' for the Round 11 clash with the Frankston Dolphins.

"He was in excellent form for Bendigo before his injury and he is a quality young player - I think all Bendigo and Essendon fans will be excited to see him back playing footy," he said.

Both sides are yet to notch up a win for the 2009 season but Hickmott feels the split round break has been good for his young side, many of which went back to their local clubs to play with their mates.

The Ten/Twelve rule will see Christian Bock, Tom German and Michael Quinn playing in the reserves team this week.

“Frankston and Port Melbourne are not affiliated with an AFL team, therefore other clubs are only allowed to play twelve AFL listed players and ten VFL listed players to keep it even.

“We’ve got some experienced guys coming back from playing league football including Houli, Bellchambers, Zaharakis and Neagle who have all played plenty of senior footy and they’ll be a great asset for our side. I expect leadership from those guys.

"Darren Hulme comes back into the side for his first game for the year after acting as assistant coach, so his leadership qualities are going to be enormous for our side.

“Our main job is to make sure we use the ball and play fast football, we want to play on at all times and take on the opposition. We don’t think that we’re quite up to the standard of hanging onto the football for too long; we turn it over a little bit. We’ll take the game on and when there’s a mistake we’re not going to worry about it, we will just go back and clean it up and start again."

Despite Frankston being without a win, Hickmott will be keeping a close eye on several of the Frankston players who may be a threat to Bendigo.

“Tori Dixon plays forward and is averaging two goals per game and he’s been in their best for the last nine weeks. We’re going to watch him because when you’re in their best and averaging that many goals you’re going to be dangerous," he said.

"Michael Hibbard has been in a really flexible back role and sets up their players. We might consider putting a young Chris Thompson from Bendigo up against a Dixon or a Hibbard.

“Justin Berry is a goal kicker, and in real top form he kicks two or three goals a week and has been in their top three every week. James Flaherty, Hurley or Tyson Slattery will probably match up with Berry, and Marcus Marigliani racks up the possessions, so he’ll be one to watch as well.

“They haven’t got their tall ruck playing as far as I know, and we’ve moved Bock back to the reserves because of the 12/10 rule. Jack Redpath will step up into the role of ruck for us. We think we’ve got an advantage there."

INS: Bellchambers, Zaharakis, Neagle, Williams, Hulme, Houli, Hurley.

OUTS: Stroobants, Bristow (sore calf).
The game kicks off at 2pm, Sunday 28 June at Frankston Park

REPORTED PLAYERS:
Frankston: NIL
Bendigo Bombers: NIL

According to BB Myers kicked 1.6 and had around 30 possies.

Hurley in the best again, would love to see him come in against coll but unlikely, plus would not know who for.

Least we were competitive... at last our lack of injuries is starting to have a follow on effect at Bendigo.

They should have won. It was close to the best side Bendigo has fielded all year, they had the scoring end in the last quarter but could not go on with it.
Very poor effort. They had Frankston on toast a few times but let them back in and the worst part of it was it was Essendon listed players making mistakes.
On todays game there is no one in that Bendigo side that played even close to the level of all the senior players on friday night so i would only be expecting McVeigh and possibly McPhee to return on friday.

Neagle-Kicked a couple of goals and took a few marks out on long leads but also played from behind a lot trying to out mark his opponent. The delivary into the forward line is not always great but he has to play in front to give himself a chance. Was not horrible but was not great either. Who knows if he is ever going to stamp himself on a VFL game and kick a bag.

Jetta-falshed in and out of the game and did some good work in the first half. Played half back in the second half and had less of the ball. He is still teasing a bit at this level. You see him do some good things and you start to think he is going to have a break out game but then he fades out of it for a while. The ball did not come near him when he was deap forward in the last 1/4.Was in the best 8.

Zaharakis- was only reasonable on the day. Had some possessions but no huge impact. Had the fumbles a bit at the clearances.

Hurley- started indefence and was out marked by Murray a couple of times. Never gave in though and did a lot of good dfensive work. Had some time up forward in the middle terms before going back again. Tried hard all day and he spoiled a good number of contest's. One of the better players on the day but i don't think his game would dislodge anyone currently in the seniors.

Nash- what can i say. Good , bad and indifferent. Had some good play, kicked to some poor options. Then he dirfted out of the game. Seems to appear for 5 or 6 minutes and get a few possessions before fading away just as quickly.

Myers- played midfield and had a heap of clearances. Found a bit of the ball around the ground as well but his kicking was average. Also kicked a few points, i thought it was 1.4 but there could have been a couple more behinds. Not good enough to force his way into the side but playing midfield and winning clearances was very pleasing.

Daniher- played half forward and half back. Did a few good things but also stuffed a few of his kicks. Steady sort of game but not great.

T Slattery- played half back and i thought he was only ordinary. Got out paced by a few of the Dolphins small brigade a few times.

Atkinson- played back and did a few good things but did not see a lot of the ball.

Quinn- on fire in the first half playing at half forward. Still makes a few mistakes but he was very good early. Was not as involved after half time.

Houli- played midfield and was ok. Still had a few of his poor handball options that he stuffed up rather than kicking the ball but was generally ok. Ran out of puff at 3/4 time so the few weeks of becasue of the virus showed.
Made some poor errors in the last quarter.

Bellchambers- rucked a lot of the time. Was about 50/50 in the hitouts and reasonable around the ground. Not sure if was enough to press for a senior game.

Bock and German played seconds but i can not tell you how they went as i only saw about 10 minutes and they where down by 140 points .

No Zaharakis in the best? That's really really dissapointing.

Edit: Just read on BB that he played well but got KO'd.

Pretty sure it was Tyson Slattery that actually got hit. It was him who came off with blood pooring from his head.

Zaka was ok but not great. Lets face it we played another side who had not won a game and threw away chances to win so i would harldy be jumping for joy about anyones performance other than Myers and Hurley. The rest did what they did but where average against poor opposition.
