When you want to get to the bottom of a illogical (dodgy) decision follow the money trail.
Yep you'd think the AFL would learn, the public are tiring of the crap they spin out to help their mates, no tender was put out for it, despite knowing the limitations for AFL, it will be at least 3 years before they can get it ok for AFL operation

Who have strath gained / lost. They came back to the pack abit last year.
Who have eaglehawk picked up to climb that much higher? Thought they had lost a fair few?
Strath only lost 1 game for the year, last year to Gisborne by 1 point in Gisborne in round 1, that's hardly coming back to the pack, they've got the best coach, great juniors, that can learn from the best senior players.

Eaglehawk lost a fair few games by under a goal last year, they've got moamas bnf and former Essendon Swan rookie, plus Evans will be better and Matho is a good coach and they've got good juniors

Eaglehawk losing filo, Harper and Saunders too I believe. Them and south will be fighting for the 5th spot I’d say

Against finalist they lost to gisbourne and sandhurst, beat square by 15 and south by 40. I would say that’s heading back towards the pack based on previous years.

That was early in the year, the last few games they were hitting their straps, beat Gizzy pretty comfortably in the round 1 rematch

They played sandhurst in round 1 mate. Hitting their straps? They touched up a poor eaglehawk side. And beat up on Maine and Maryborough. Beat gissy in a severely Covid affected match.. which if I’m correct I reckon gissy being closer to Melbourne would have been more affected.

Eaglehawk didn't qualify for the finals last year & have lost about 10-11senior squad players & haven't brought much in I couldn't see them playing finals.

I’m hearing the Hommelhoffs are among the departures from Eaglehawk. 4 figures each per game offered in the north of the state, which they’ve happily accepted.

Going to be a long year for some clubs with an exodus of players and not too many recruits. Gisborne will be right up there as they haven’t been impacted as much as some of the Bendigo based clubs due to players staying in Melbourne and not wanting to travel.

Strathfieldsaye will be strong again as always. Think you may see Kyneton and South make progress this year.
Square will be thereabouts as usual.

Never write Sandhurst off but they were on the slide and the losses have been significant, same with Eaglehawk.

Both Maryborough and Castlemaine will be far more competitive, especially Maryborough who have recruited well and have an excellent new coach.

Kangaroo Flat are in trouble and will be the struggler. Lots of problems again I’m sorry to say.

Ladder prediction (early days)

Gisborne
Strathfieldsaye
Kyneton
South Bendigo
Golden Square
Maryborough
Sandhurst
Eaglehawk
Castlemaine
Kangaroo Flat

What are the ins and outs at South that you know of did they keep hold of Brazier who was on a VFL list I think at Preston last year?

Brazier playing back in Melbourne, only played a couple of games last season and with his VFL form he won’t be playing many club games this year anyway. retained the other 3 Melbourne guys including Cooper Leon who I think would of won the michelson last season. They have Isaiah Miller returning who is a genuine A grader. Also signed Liam Byrne and Blake Poyser, both 1 point players, Byrne has spent time in the VFL. Still lacking a tall forward.
You think Miller a genuine A grader?

At Rochy he played across half back mostly ... Had a crack in the middle but wasn't good enough. B grader at best in the GVFL league.

Now his Dad Robbie Miller was a genuine A grader!

Yeah obvisouly im talking about him in Bendigo. Interleague player so I’d say he’s pretty close to being an A grader

Square finished equal top last year what would lead you to think they would drop to mid table? Sandhurst always have ready made replacements coming through their ranks I'd still be penning them in for a spot in the 5. Be a long time since they've missed.

I guess that is the difference between the two leagues. Stroobants, Bowen, Schmidt, Flaherty and others from BFL have played at Rochy as genuine A graders.

Totally agree. As much I hate to say this as a Sandhurst supporter, Square looked good last year, have recruited well and will be a real threat. The Dragons have announced 4-5 solid recruits but I believe are going to need a ruckman to stay in the top 5. They will be thereabouts.

Kyneton are going to be an interesting team to watch. They have recruited some good players and will improve. The questions is by how much. If they could make the finals nothing else could create greater interest to the competition, especially if they play Gisborne.

I personally would like to see a top 6. It would keep interest alive in the home and away games right up to the finals and add another dimension to the finals themselves.

Do you know any names of square recruits?

Thought Tim Martyn was back?
