Zak thanks for your confidence in the Storm boys in season 2011. As the cliche goes I'm just taking it one week at a time.

As for the technology side of things that you have mentioned, that is so 2010 ! If my sources are correct, expect some pretty big techie things to happen within the BFNL, that not even the AFL can do !!!!

what keep players off the grog, the gear and chicks under 18 :D

On another topic, this Smythe fella's ya's have lost for a packet to the RDFL, out of curiosity is there a player or two you could compare to him to?

LOL - Doona - if only that was the truth !!!

As for Dermie Smythe, not really one to make comparison's as it is unfair on either player - but in your old HDFL circles would compare him a bit like Brian Westley of Elmore. Like Westley, Dermie is a hard at it tough as nails type running back flanker who can mix it up in the mid field and plays above his weight, with silky skills.

Big loss to the Storm...

The betting for 2011 is now out and a few surprises.

Golden Square - $1.45
Eaglehawk - $6.00
Gisborne - $8.00
Strath - $8.00
Kangarro Flat - $17.00
Sandhurst - $17.00
Maryborough - $34.00
Castlemaine - $51.00
South Bendigo - $51.00
Kyneton - $101

Gee have South Bendigo lost most of their players?? And Kyneton with Condos leaving is rank outsiders and fav for another spoon. $1.45 is a lock for Golden Sqaure - they should be $1.10

45% interest rate... not many of the banks are offering that! Might have to jump on board!

yeah knew south had lost a few k.a. but 2nd last  think they'll win a few more games than 2nd last would suggest. my tiger boys need to 4ward some names to local scribes soon. its gunna be march tomorrow and praccy games start real soon --- this sat. for the hawkers
tiges have to get up and running or realistically the '11 season will b shot

Speaking of shot Barfold Bobby, see your Thirds are in strife with numbers again. Maryborough also in the poo

<Insert usual comments on BFNL's lack of support to country clubs here>

Seriously though, in 10 years this competition will be a lot different to what it is now. Change is inevitable gang

I've made all the comments I intend to make Doc. An old time expression 'there is none so deaf as those who won't listen' should be inscribed on the grave of the BFNL Board when it is finally dead and buried.

Now can you give us any news from the QEO - the good end, not the red & white one.

TWO-thirds of the Q now under grass, albury, and the sprinklers going flat out on the grassy part

Sad to say but I think the old square shape, with those deep pockets. has gone to God

The Melton or Sunbury construction crew have broiught in an "oval" Oval

No more good news to report since Lee Coghlan told me on Aust Day that he wasn't heading to WA.... but that doesn't mean there isn't any.

The QEO is looking good 5thQ, I agree. Sandhurst FC 150th year celebrations have been put back to 2012. Not many recruits to talk about. Some good 3rds hanging around from last year which is always good to hear.

Somebody may have already stated this but I was just checking clearances on new website, Joel West approved from Kangaroo Flat to Strathfieldsaye...Daryl Wilson getting the old crew back together hey??

Just looking through the clearances quickly dosen't look to be a lot of quality come into the league

J West has named his "home" club as S'Saye, when not playing for Frankston VFL.

Tom Stokes from Angelsea has been linked for many months South Bendigo still waying up offers from North Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye heard to be chasing money or the best offer,
is a strong key backman with great hands an dynamite right foot kick,
Would hold down a position in any Bendigo Football League team

Any truth to the rumor that young gun Steve Pugh from Waaia currently training at Bendigo Bombers is considering just signing on at Kangaroo Flat on a luacrative 2 year deal upwards of 650 a game over 2 years.
the young lad is a tough an tenacious at the ball and the player. Would be a great asset to K Flat if he decides to sign with them.

Bed and breakfast-if you think this guy is good why dont you shut up and let his actions judge him

s'pose you have all read paul daffeys letter to central vic on afl.com.au
go to the website and look on the 'features' section --- we have an oval Oval at the q now
the time honored square shape has gone to God

doc kenny, his hurst mates and south counterparts decided drainage was more vital then history so the engineerd slope down 2wards the barnard str. end will now presumably take the winter rainwater away

daffey explains all in his letter story. he wanted some conflict and unhappiness in the yarn but apparently everyone agreed --- south, hurst, the bfnl, the council and the contractor

 go to afl.au and get fired up, boys

HERE'S the Daffey letter, lads

Dear people of Central Victoria,

It is with regret that I write this letter. I understand the circumstance of what you've done. I just wish it weren't so.

As you know, the Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo is one of the best-known grounds in country Victoria. In fact, I would say country Australia. Pictures of the 1901 grandstand gracefully towering over the footballers beneath it are likely to have been seen by anyone who follows footy.

One of the great quirks of the QEO was that it was a rectangular shape. For decades, it hosted two cricket ovals. The deep pockets afforded those two ovals a bit more ground space.

When the two ovals were reduced to one, the deep pockets remained. They became a much-loved quirk. You might say they became part of the fabric of local sport. They certainly set the QEO apart from all other football and cricket grounds.

You were to right to kick up a fuss a decade ago, around the time that the VFL club Bendigo Diggers were morphing into the Bendigo Bombers. At that time, administrators from the VFL team let the burghers of Bendigo know that they would like the deep pockets of the QEO to be lopped off. They argued that an oval in the true sense of the word would better prepare young footballers for the AFL.

There was no regard for history, said you, the fine people of Central Victoria; no regard for the fact that the QEO existed for more than a century before a Bendigo VFL team was cooked up. The VFL club's request, and the arrogant manner in which it was made, rightfully angered you.

So you began a campaign. The ground's Bendigo Football League co-tenants, Sandhurst and South Bendigo, led the charge. You, the people of Central Victoria, wrote dozens of letters to the Bendigo Advertiser arguing against a proposal from a VFL club that you were reluctant to accept.

You said you liked the corners just the way they were. It was outrageous to propose that they should be brought in by nine metres. Eventually, the Bendigo city council bowed to public opinion and the oval remained a rectangle.

This time it's different. A $2.2-million planned redevelopment for the ground included the necessity of a slope to the Barnard Street end to help the ground's drainage. The drainage would have a lesser effect if the ground remained a rectangle.

When faced with a choice of keeping the deep corners or having better drainage, there were very few dissenters. Sandhurst and South Bendigo plumped for the drainage. You, the people of Central Victoria, also gave the green light for the corners to be lopped off.

The new development is said to have many good points. Extra seating has been put in. The lighting has been improved. A new netball court has been built. Footy will return to the QEO in June.

I'm in your corner, so to speak. I understand the circumstances of consigning one of the great quirks of country footy to memory.

I just wish it weren't so.
