Gissy looks to be building a nice side up the calder. I'd be very surprised if i didn't see them return deep into September.

Anyone catch the Maryborough/Eaglehawk game? Very curious as i'd tipped MB to go down by at least 60pts. Good pies or poor hawks?

I am not involved with the club or this league but i know Aston and it seems he has them playing footy on the same page. Massive tragedy he hasnt got half the list Fisher had to work with and he's very own appointment was to prevent the club from complete abandonment preceding permanent celler dwelling. Goes to show what a decent coach can do (hope it continues)..

Not sure of a top two finish, i think Gisborne would be stoked to play finals.

Is it true Kyneton havent played a practice match at all ?

tis most definitely true bearsboy. not enough players been turning up to train pre season. got well and truely touched up on the weekend by the hurst mob. tigers had 11 players with less than 5 games senior experience each. it will be interesting watching the tigers improve this year and i believe they will under the messiah. there is a quiet buzz about the club and everyone seems very realistic of were the tiges are and anticipating a positive turn around this year.

Yeah, great game from a M'borough perspective. No question the team is a shadow of what it was last season, but amazing how far a bit of ticker can get you.

At the risk of upsetting Eaglehawk supporters, their team did seem a bit disinterested at times. They are better than that, and will prove it from here on, but perhaps they underestimated how bad M'boro were going to be.

It just shows people that there is more to the Magpies than Shane Fisher and Darcy Richards.

Gissy by 100+ points today. Another strong showing. Saunders with 12 after 2 games. Tip Toed out of Gisborne!!! And with Strath beating Kyneton by 140+ points Gissy will be looking forward to starting the year 3-0 and lots and lots of %%%%%!

Heard around the traps tonight that a Strath supporter is smiling all the way to the bank after betting $1k for the Storm to beat Kyneton 120+pts at 50-1 through one of the online betting agency.....

Can any Storm supporters confirm this ? Stormboy ???

Since when did betting agencies take bets on line betting in regional footy comps.
Might try for a square quarter quad tomorrow

That sounds fairly rubbishy. For starters, agencies only bet premiership markets on a few leagues, let alone margin betting on individual games. If you actually inquired about laying that bet, they aint gonna give you 50-1!!
Youve been had by a smartmouth....

Many, including me, had the Dragons going through the motions in 2011, maybe sneaking into the 5...

I was glad I decided to head out to Huntly to have a sticky beak and I was absolutely rapt with the Dragons performance. They look like they enjoy playing together and our young blokes have had 2 years of senior footy under their belt. Starting to pay dividends. Impressed with new recruit Chris Collins.

Also, absolutely rapt with Maryborough beating Flat! ... Good to see a "country" team competing well and defying the critics

Re: RDFL Thread 2011 (Part 1)

To be fair, Dekka has had about six touches in two games. The current Kyneton side would struggle to push for an RDFL finals berth.

How about Gissy on the weekend? After years of bagging them word on the street is that you were seen trying to sneak into the rooms after the game!! Anything positive to report?

They were pretty good. Obviously were up against a young side in Castlemaine, but with Barham to come back they should be a top three to four side this year.

Former Riddell player Ben Sonogan was outstanding. Has certainly developed into a very good footballer after being one of the brightest youngsters a few years ago.

Tom Waters will go close to winning the Michelsen Medal this year after another terrific performance in the ruck.

Think the Dogs lack a little bit of height, but have enough blokes capable of rotating through middle to cause some trouble.

I also thought it was gutsy of you to walk in the rooms after giving Gisborne such a pasting on here over the years (you did look extremely nervous though).

With J. Barham and A. Belcher to return in the next few weeks, that should give us 4 quality players (including Sonogan and Waters) at around the 6'4 mark. That is something i cant recall seeing at Gisborne for a long time.

Will be interesting to see how the Dogs go at the bigger grounds. Obviously Belch and Barham will be big inclusions.

I know he has been very destructive up forward in the opening two weeks, but would like to see Saunders play a little bit more on the ball against the stronger sides. Maybe a 60-40 ratio between midfield and forward.

How do you feel as a sponsor now that some of those funds are going towards extra security?

Re: RDFL Thread 2011 (Part 1)

Amazing how Gisborne supporters seem to have overcome their 'acute shyness' of 2010!

I think 101 5 Fresh FM's (on-line) coverage of Bendigo football is terrific and overcomes my frustration with the BFNL website - especially night game results.

Can anyone tell me if 3BO is still broadcasting night games this year?

Always involved at the Gisborne FNC win, lose or draw - just a bit more enjoyable and a bit more to talk about when your winning !

Bearsboy how would you like to see your round 4 home match against Square played on a Sunday?

I reckon on the Sunday you would get a massive crowd.

Congratulations to Kyneton on what was an absolutely massive day for their footy club (apart from game results). It was easily the biggest crowd i have ever seen at a local regular season game. My guess is around 2000 people, but a Kyneton bloke i was talking to thought maybe 3000. Nathan Thompson was a big hit with the crowd and very handy up forward slotting through 5 goals.I believe the two clubs involved are hoping to make the Good Friday game a permanent fixture.P.S Jayden Dole is a thug and still cant play footy

I went to Maryborough v Castlemaine game last night to see what turned out to be a thriller.

It was a bit difficult from a spectators point of view though as both clubs wore black and white. Both had black socks.

To top it all off, the umpires wore white shirts, black shorts and black socks.

???????????????:)

Completly agree with ur comments here bearbsboy expect the Jayden dole comment I think is a little harsh but it's ur point of view. I beleive after a bit of investigating that the crowd was somewhere between 2700 and 2850. Congratulations to all involved and well done on the gisborne football club who supported the dayy as well and having a large number of people show there faces in the room after the game. Ohh and my p.s thommo please play another game for us this year ur a champ

davis, does this mean the club will pay the money they owe to players for last year? It would make it hard to recruit if players arent 100% sure if they will be paid

... And I have it on good authority at least one of the umpires lost his s--- over the fact that it was hard to tell them apart, and performed accordingly. Sometimes colours clash, and as you say, the ump's can be just as guilty of that.

Storm has had the same problem playing against both of these teams in the past few years, particularly on dark and gloomy days when the navy blue resembles more like a black.

Realise stripes are aligned differently, but to a player in a pack situation who has millisceonds to react, a flash of black or navy blue could trigger a disposal to an opposition player accidentally.

Would have thought the Maryborough side would have used their early 2000's jumper when playing Castlmaine with the teal to assist umpires and supporters in the game (have seen them wear it once against us so I do know that they still use them). Maybe different sponsors now - not sure of the reasoning why/why not ???

Maybe its time for the league to introduce clash or away strips to prevent instances like this occuring in the future. Maybe something that the Goat could run with to fill in the midweek editions of the Addy ???

It was extraordinary.

In the night conditions it was virtually impossible to tell the players apart. As for the umpires, you could understand them being frustrated as on at least two occasions they payed free kicks for contact by players in the same team and had to stop play for a ball up, as well as being confused as to which side had marked the ball.

Hard enough job without being made to look stupid like that.

Maryborough were going to change at half time but didn't have enough spare jumpers.

Let's hope it is fixed before the return clash as it really wasn't good enough.

Looking forward though, this Saturday the Castlemaine v Kyneton game will be live on WMA FM 94.9. Those out of range can stream it live on wmafm.com
