Re: Bendgio to wear blue and gold next year

Who cares what they wear when they are no longer associated with Essendon? I for one couldn't care less about Bendigo when they split with Essendon.

If they want to wear blue and gold then fair enough, they are an independent club.

The point is they are doing this NEXT year when we are still affiliated with them. Next year Essendon players playing for Bendigo will be in Blue and Gold.

I have no problems with them doing this from 2013 after they become independent.

Disgraceful decision.

Re: Bendgio to wear blue and gold next year

Look at all the other clubs and tell me outside Collingwood and Geelong who wears their strips in the VFL?

Re: Bendgio to wear blue and gold next year

Who really cares? That's what most other clubs have to do and after us constantly saying that we want to leave Bendigo I can see why they'd want to drop the Bombers name and colours.

Re: Bendgio to wear blue and gold next year

I don't see the problem

PS

What an absolute disgrace that an Essendon reserves team will NOT be wearing our sash.

The Bendigo Football Club is the Bendigo Football Club. Not the Essendon reserves team

What is next? The club will introduce a clash jumper?

We can only hope.

So you support a clash strip then without our sash? After all other clubs do it right?

At Essendon we play in our red and black sash. It will be disgraceful for our VFL team to play in blue and gold. Collingwood and Geelong have been good at protecting their brand like we have in the past although it seems this may be changing with this terrible decision.

Re: Bendgio to wear blue and gold next year

Is this some sort of joke? The club has elected to end the Bendigo Alliance after 2012 however unless I am mistaken reading the heraldsun article and the one in the Age today the Bendigo team will not be known as the Bendigo Bombers but instead Bendigo (most likely Diggers) and wear BLUE AND GOLD next year.

It is bad enough that Bendigo wear clash jumpers in the VFL and play with a silver one at times and without our sash but now wearing BLUE AND GOLD.

The club should have ensured our sash was worn next year and after that they can do whatever they want.

Bendigo are an independent club and are not the Essendon reserves.

The thing is, it doesn't matter. Last time I checked is that you're the only one making it out as though it's the most disgraceful decision since the hands in the back rule. It isn't, it doesn't matter.

They aren't OUR VFL team. We have a deal with them which allows our players to play for them. They're their own club, and the fact remains that they can wear whatever strip they want, and let's be honest, Blue and Gold aren't the worst combination of colours.

Re: Bendgio to wear blue and gold next year

It's a good thing.
That means we will get the black and red sash for 2013.... with our stand alone team.

I thought they were to change after the affiliation with Essendon is gone?
My impression from the article is that after 2012, they will split and change their name and colours then. Not during 2012 though.

no. the changes begin immediately. They are pissed with essendon, and are looking to their own interests as of now. a statement from Bendigo:

With this change in direction, Joss promised some changes to the arrangements for 2012. The Club will no longer be known as the Bendigo Bombers but will be known as The Bendigo Football Club. The Club will wear a newly designed Bendigo jumper and will only wear the Essendon branded jumper at games at Windy Hill (3) or where the new Bendigo jumper clashes with the opposition when playing away games. A strong preference to play Friday Night Home games at the newly refurbished QEO, a new nickname and club song are also among the changes.

We need to get ready for 2013 and part of that is the immediate change of starting to build our own identity. For us, 2012 will be about preparing for 2013, whilst we continue in an alignment arrangement. There will therefore be a strong focus on Bendigo and developing local players during 2012 to be able to play VFL football in 2013, Joss also said.

Bendigo will wear blue and gold from next season, with exception of the Windy Hill games.

However, Bendigo will only wear Essendon’s red and black jumper in three home games at Windy Hill next year and for the rest of the season will sport a traditional Bendigo navy blue and gold jumper which is yet to be designed. The club is also yet to decide on a new nickname.

So it looks as if Bombers is getting the boot as well.

Will Shannon Grant still coach? He is employed by Essendon isn't he? Will be interesting to see the dynamics there.

from the same article:

Shannon Grant, who is employed by Essendon, will remain senior coach of Bendigo for 2012.

By "get ready for 2013", do they mean when they'll cease to exist in the VFL?

Actually, the Bendigo Football Club own a VFL licence for seasons 2012, 2013 & 2014.

It's the EFC that have to go to AFL Victoria and ask nicely for a licence.

PLUS, here's the kicker. If it was found to be the EFC's call to break away from Bendigo, AFL Victoria have made it clear that the AFL club breaking away has to pay compensation to their (former) VFL partner!!!
