Bellchambers was solid all day.
Dick was outclasses by podsiadly in the last
Johns lifted in the last when moved up forward, kicked to that quarter.

I wouldnt say that these 2 guys were the best 2 players for the day. I was at the game and i rekon jj and myers were the best 2. lloyd was there and by the way he was moving i doubt he'll play next week. Mcveigh was limping pretty badly, will be at least 4 and lonegen was moving pretty freely so maybe 2 weeks for him

Match report as requested Merv!

Some quick notes.

Bendigo's reserves were never in the hunt, apart from the lead they held at 1/4 time.

Ground was sandy throughout the outfield, whilst the centre wicket area had been watered in the lead-up (source was reserve match goal umpire and also a walk of the ground at half-time of reserves match).

Light breeze blowing across the ground, but, slightly favouring the city end, but, would only be a half of a goal advantage.

Werribee's effort for a team that hadn't won before today was quite good. They generally won more of the one-on-one contests, whilst the likes of Jess Sinclair were responsible for getting the ball up forward.

The comment about Podsiadly is totally incorrect. Johns controlled him until 3/4 time, but, once the move was made by Hickmott to send Johns forward, Podsiadly got on top.

By contrast with what Werribee did, Bendigo's decision making and disposal was on average quite poor. Atkinson was by far the worst. On at least 7 occasions, his served up hospital handballs that were ultimately turned over. Of the other rookies, Dick, as back-up ruckman, lead the way, despite being totally undersized against McKinnon and Goldstein. Bellchambers did well when in the middle.

Chartres got better as the game went on, whilst Magin seemed okay to me.

Of the Essendon listed players:

Johnson's effort was excellent. Showed plenty of leadership and hardness.

Welsh did well in the 3rd term in particular, with a number of clearances..and the most flukey goal of the match (ball was kicked into the goalsquare, came off hands, and Welsh kicked the ball in mid-air).

Myers was consistent over the 4 quarters, but, not fantastic. Williams was okay.

Daniher played at both ends, but, did the shoulder going up for a hitout it seemed.

As mentioned, I thought Johns' game was good. Did a terrific job on Podsiadly and then backed that up with 2 goals in the last.
