Finally a win . We tried hard to loose with poor kicking in the last quarter beut we got home. as for the players.

Gumbleton - Another slow start but he was put into the ruck in the middle of the first quarter and that seemed to help his confidence. Once he got a few kicks he went on with it and played reasonably well. He still needs to work on a few of his efforts and his leading but it was a much improved effort this week. Had plenty of chances in front of goal and should have kicked 5 or 6. Sparyed a lot of his kicks finishing with 2.4.
He was one of our better players but still has some stuff to work on.

Leroy Jetta - very good game from him today. He looked switched on. Used his body well in the marking contest and worked really hard to keep the ball in his area. Showed a bit of dash today chasing a number of players hard and caught a few of them. Outstanding pressure and second efforts. The bad news was he went off late in the game with a shoulder injury. He was able to move his arm once he was on the bench so i guess we will see if he comes up.

Jason Johnson - great first half as he was in everything. Going in hard running to space linking up and providing run. Looked to run out of gas in the third quarter but found something in the final quarter and tried hard to get us the win. very good game. One of our better players.

Bradley - Not his day today. As usual he lead and presented well but with McDougal on him and playing close he just couldnt hold his marks. The plus was he always presented as a forward option , played in front and provided a contest. the minus was he couldnt seem to hang onto his marks today and his goal kicking was ordinary. He finished with 0.3. tried hard but not one of his better games.

Mark Bolton - tried hard all day and got a bit of the footy but the problem is the more footy he gets the more little Bolton errors happen. There is no questioning his endevour and efforts but finishing let him down.

Chris Heffernan - Improved game today as he got a bit more of the ball and didnt butcher it like he has been. He had a solid game but IMO he wasnt in the best 6 as named in the results.

Heath Hocking - Started in the middle and got plenty of the ball. Had a couple of dodgy handballs early on but was generally good with his disposal. After quarter time he was given a few tagging jobs and played at half back which resuted in less output in the middle but he still got a bit of the footy while keeping his opponents under control. Ended the day with 27 possessions which was a pretty decent effort considering the amount of time he was at half bag and following a player around.
Once again his tackling was very good. He took a very heavy knock in the third quarter and had to come off after getting involved in a couple of scuffles shortly after but came back on at the start of the fourth and ran out the game well.

Dean Dick - easily the best game he has played. Actually looked like he had the run of the game today and was good in the first half in defence. Still gives his man a bit too much latitude for my liking but was solid. Provided a really good target when moved forward in the last quarter. Missed two gettable goals before scoring his first. Much improved game.

Bacher Houli - As usual he was a solid contributor. Gets in and works hard. Provided a good link and worked in well with team mates. He could play a bit closer to his man at times but his overall game was good. One of our better players.

Danny Chartres - played in defence this week and wasnt as good as he has been. He did find a bit in the last quarter when we needed him to stand up.

Lonergan, Reimers ,John s, Cole and Lee didnt play.

Of the Bendigo listed players Cloke was back to his best this week after last weeks average game. Used the footy really well today and ran all day as usual.
Jolley was a steady performer. Rosa got plenty of it as usual but still misses too many targets by foot. Charlie Mahar tried very hard and provided some good link work. Does well for such a small player. Jarrod Atkinson was pretty good on the half back line.

And play him where?

In the role Paddy (and Jobe at times) played in the second half, the hit up half forward.

Either Gumby or Kep should come in and play that role. We looked much better when we have another hit up option across half forward and leave Lloyd and Lucas deeper.

Thats what we sorely miss.

I reckon Lloyd should play that role and have the others rotate FF and CHF.

I have always said that our Key Forwards should be played much deepr than what they are currently.

Gumby is not physically ready yet for AFL football and especially not in these cut throat games where we still have a very small chance of making the finals.

I wouldn't be against him getting a taste once we are out of the running for finals, but for now Kep has a more mature body and apart from what read about him today, has earned his spot

Agree, with the way our midfield has looked lately we need to maximize our F50 entry, especially against the tight Crows, and this works. If Gumby/Kep or whoever was struggling a little Lloyd or Lucas could help a little as long as one of them is always deep.

As far as Kepler goes i was listening to or reading something from the club recently ( my memory is going becasue i cant remember who it was ) that could explain his non selection. It was simply put down as until Keps showed a greater improvement in his skills he wouldn't be selected. They where very happy with the way he has gone about things and very happy with his efforts to improve but it still needed to get better.

Thats curious Ant robus, how much greater can his skills get after being at the Club for over three and a half years ? Surely he deserves a shot now at our current miserable forward line.

Surely he can't do any worse than Reiwoldt, Rocca, Cloke, Richo, Lloyd... etc - kicking this year has been very poor.

What's your feeling on Gumby Ant? Should he come in asap, or should we give him another couple in the 2's, and then see if he is ready for the Richmond or WC games? Or should we just keep him in the 2's, give him a full preseason and then get him in for NAB cup?

I personally don't think he's ready, i've only seen him play twice, and he doesnt seem to have the right body or the right feel for the game at this stage. And of course it would crowd the forward line terribly if we have him, Lloyd and Lucas there.

Well they have modfied his kicking style a bit since he last played seniors so i guess they are still not happy with it.
Im sure you would not be leaping with joy if he came in and kicked 0.3 and one out on the full.

Would like to see Gumby put a couple of consistant games together for Bendigo before we play him. I do think they will give him a bit of a look before the end of the year.

Ant do you think if Dick puts in a few more good performances for BB that he could be promoted to the senior list? retained on the rookie list? or will he be delisted?

They wont delist him. I suspect he is a slight chance to be promoted but is likely to be kept as a rookie.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly sure that interstate rookies get a 2 year contract
