if he's around at pick 30 (providing luke ball isn't in the national draft)...

GET HIM.

from my understanding... he is injury prone, but he is a super KPP. probably would have gone first round (late) but injury setbacks could push him to the pick 30 mark. super hands (some say best in the draft), long fluent kick, future poster boy - but not pretty boy.

195cm, 97kg (around that mark) - would look great in the no. 23 at collingwood.

what do people know about him???
is he a good option???

Benjamin Griffiths (Eastern Ranges, VIC)
Height: 198cm, Weight: 99kg, DOB: 17/09/91
Recruited from: Blackburn
Rarely beaten in the air, has quick with clean hands below his knees and is an exceptional long kick for goal. Vic Metro U18 representative in 2009.

From the drafts and trading board Phantom draft.

Ben Griffiths.

Very much a high risk-high reward selection

Could be in the mix a lot higher if he had more form behind him and there wasn’t such a big question mark on his durability.

He looks to have excellent pack and contested marking skills aided by his strong pair of hands overhead combined with his above average height and weight for a KF, attack on the contest, long arms and big vertical leap, as well as an absolutely thumping 60m right foot kick (including a very efficient set shot technique), above average pace for his height, good mobility and clean hands at ground level, very quick feeding ability coupled with good vision and timing. He also graduated from the AIS-AFL academy last year.

The main risk is his lack of durability – his junior career has shown him to be very injury prone only managing 18 TAC Cup games over the last 3 years and missing much of the U18 Championships (he only played the 1 vs NSW/ACT?) this year, so there is not a lot to go by particularly against quality opponents and he hasn’t had a lot of opportunity to build form and consistency over an extended period.

If Ball is unavailable and this kid is, give him no.23.

Jolly should take 18.

Heres some video of him in action:

I'm sure i've read he has played in defense as well as forward before. He has the height and weight to play in the ruck as well. He looks like the best KPP in the draft that is conceivably available at our pick but I think theres every chance someone will take the punt on him earlier. If Hine picks him up i'd be stoked but equally confortable for him to go best available this year and draft someone else if he thinks they will be a better player.

i agree with everything thats been said. i think the kid would be a great selection if he stays injury free. he has arguably the most upside of any KP forward in the draft. he is already 198cm and 99 kg!!!

For a 17/18 year old to already be 198cm and 99kg, he will be prone to injuries while young. Still learning how to control such a big frame..

Conditioning and running technique would be a high priority as he is prone to ankle and knee issues.. but definately would be managable.

If he grows another 2-6 cm which is quite possible and he does slip through to number 30, definately worth the risk.
