Benjamin Simon is our new recruit under the NSW/ACT AFL scholarship program. He is 15 and is 197cm . Adrian Dodoro says "At 197cm, very athletic and only 15 years of age with a rugby background, he could be at this stage likened to a Lewis Roberts-Thomson" (I'm not sure if a likening to Lewis is good or bad.) He has clocked 11.6 seconds for 100 metres.

The man or boy (I'm not sure what to call him) will be (is) a freak.

i never really understood what happens with this schollarship, do we get first crack at him or what?

It is kind of the same as a fateher son so in 2009 if we want him we can take him with our 3rd round (i think) pick and if we pass on him than anyone can take him

He comes from a Rugby background. He is relativly unfamiliar to AFL but is athletic and tall and has time to learn AFL.

He's 15 and you'd reckon he'd be a ruckman. That means he's probably 7 years, if not more, away from being an AFL footballer.

He needs a lot of work on his kicking, but he has a lot of time on his side.

Although few big blokes are brilliant kicks, he needs to get a lot better. From all reports, pretty committed. To run that speed at that height could be an awesome weapon should he come good.

Sounds worth the punt, I missed the part on his height, getting tired, just get sceptical when they start learning so late

Tall athletic players are the way to go with these type of programs, ala Cox, rookie, or Goodes, 40 something pick

I was always a bit of a fan of Jack.

Would ghenerally start on the bench, and have a pretty immediate impact (usually legal) on the game.

Really? I have never heard anything like that. I assumed it was just an AFL sanctioned development program.

EDIT: The article does indicate something of the sort. With another 3 years of growth he could quite easily get to 210cm, wouldnt even need to jump in a ruck contest.

Back door Benny Doolan is apperantly playing rugby in Albury after coaching a local AFL side there to a woodern spoon. It was a pity he could not have switched codes around 10 years ago

Plenty of time to get into the AFL..sports mad apparently,
so he might take a strong and quick liking to it.
