Peter Moore and Jim Stynes both won Brownlows (2 in Moore's case) as running mobile ruckmen in the 70s/80s/90s. In Moore's case he was also good enough to play as season as a key forward at Collingwood and kick 76 goals in a season.

Revolutionised probably wasn't the right word, but he did dominate because there weren't any other ruckman like him.

The most goals Cox kicked in a season was 28 in 2012 and he was playing majority forward that year with Nic Nat an All Australian ruck.

As I football follower I would much rather go to the footy and see T Modra than Dunstall he is as boring as bat shit!

May not have been as exciting but Dunstall was more effective and the better footballer

Would you rather go to the footy to watch a player who excites the crowd and yourself or watch someone as boring as?

When choosing who should be in the top 10 it should be a prerequisite that you would pay $$$$$ to go and watch them

It's not the top ten most exciting players of all time. Should we also have Brett Burton and Shaun Smith in there too?

Are the Dogs a better side then Freo because we are exciting to watch?

Personally, if I had the choice of paying to watch either play at the Dogs it would have been Dunstall. With Dunstall playing the chances of me going home happy would have been much higher because we would have been significantly more likely to have won.

Regularly kicking bags of ten plus is also pretty good to watch.

yeah but this post isn't who is the top 10 most exciting footballers of all time. I'm arguing with your comment on Dunstall only being a contributor to Hawthorn, he is easily in the top 10 players of all time on stats alone

Top ten players of all time?
The only current player I see with that potential is Gary Ablett Jr, and even he is on the outside looking in. Probably needs to prove his fitness firstly (please no more serious injuries), then recapture his Brownlow medal form (he's still the best in the AFL on his day) and lead Gold Coast to a good finals run or more (hardest to predict) before he retires to be considered.

I hate Brisbane. Aker was a mouth and a flog to boot at times. I don't think I've seen better though and I think Swan is head and shoulders above Judd.

As a player overall though, Akermanis did everything and better than most. 60 metre snaps off the non preferred, speed in congestion and a killer sidestep. Marking, kicking them from nowhere. I hate it but if I'm honest I have to say it.

If not for the personality, coming across like a half cut intruder at a barbeque he would be better remembered.

Which is why I wouldn't rate Burton, you want both excitement and quality being the reason Carey, Lockett and Mathews are automatic selections, I would have cousins he was an excitement mention that could play, modra a 100 goal forward with the excitement to go with it but not consistent enough to get in the top 10. Dunstall was Mr consistent but you would have no real want to watch him, just so friggen boring.

So if Dunstall was playing for Adelaide kicking bags every week you would have no want to watch him?

We will have to agree to disagree. I personally would prefer my best ten of all time to be based on their effectiveness, not how exciting they were.

I will never forget when Dunstall kicked 14 against the Dogs - I think Hawks fans may have been pretty excited that day - and it was effective.

But seriously, I don't think any current player makes list yet. Controversial but boomer Harvey needs a mention. Not quite top 10 but does have a long resume and many BOGs
Ablett Jnr, Hird, Buckley, Voss, Ricciuto, McLeod, Pavlich, Judd, Cousins, N Riewoldt, S Black, Cox.

There's twelve players that have been comfortably better and I've only had to go through players whose careers have finished up in the last ten years.

Modra was good - Dunstall was a lot better. Give me the better player over the flashey player every time. Start an entertaining thread if you like - Modra shouldn't be mentioned in this thread.

There's you answer if he was playing for Adelaide yes, but if he was playing for say Freo I wouldn't pay to watch him unless he was playing my team, when I come to Melbourne for the weekend I would go to other games but choose entertaining ones. Dunstall simply wasn't entertaining I don't think anyone could argue that point great kick and great solid lead and that's it, Lockett was so much better in a one on one similar to that of Ablett Snr so those two would appeal to myself far more than Dunstall and I didn't barrack for their teams

I don't rate modra in any top 10, couldn't do it year in year out, I would also rather watch Richo In front of Dunstall but wouldn't rate him top 10 either

What do you mean as if he'll see that out? He'll 100% see that out. Why would he let millions of dollars that is already his go for nothing?
He won't play that long. He'll get all the cash from the contract but play until 36? No chance.

Very much agree. I appreciate the personality he has and quite often agreed with his controversial opinions as opposed to others. He's not the only bloke to ruin his own legacy. Carey and Milne also good suggestions. Aker could have gone down as one of the best of the modern era, but his big mouth let him down.

Glad I'm not being shot down lol. Seriously hated the guy after '02 but finally had to recognise the quality of player he was

He's the best full back that I've ever seen play by a mile. This dates back to the early 1990's. Anything before that, I can't base an opinion on.

I remember in the early 2000's we played a game against the Saints (my Father barracks for them) and before the siren even sounded he lined up on Spider Everitt. I remember thinking to myself that he was going to get killed that day just due to Everitt's size and strength. Boy was I surprised. He owned him.

From that day on I was a believer. Scarlett was something special, he really was. And this was before he began to build an attacking game....
We've got our own bias but I believe Silvagni was better. Just.
