judd ain't special. Ablett the best and won't be passed by anyone playing today. Fyfe and danger are set to surpass Judd if they can have another four fit years each.

I rank him. But why don't half the coaches? I know our coach has told those on the inside he is happy for Mitchell to rack up the ball because he doesn't do any damage with it and would rather try to clamp down on a hodge or Gibson. Have heard other coaches think the same. I don't think any other mids in this debate get disrespect from coaches at all let alone like Mitchell does. Maybe they see something we don't.

You're some kind of special if you think Judd's best years at West Coast are not on par with Ablett.

When ling was around, the tag always went to Mitchell. Always. since then no tager has had it consistently over him.

Gibson and Hodge on the other had you have a better strike rate at stopping.

Mitchell is extremely dangerous with footy in hand, what coach was that?

Lingy tended to start on one of either Hodge or Mitchell and if the other was getting off the chain, he'd swap. He was a good player Ling, but nothing special, I don't understand why opponents have been unable to do it to the level that Ling did. Unless of course as Seeds posted, coaches don't rate Mitchell.

**** knows why, he's torched Geelong on a number of occasions since the Paddle Pop lion retired.

Seems to be working a treat.
 
I don't think any current player other than Ablett will be top 10 of all time by the end of their careers (the game has been going for over 100 years). Buddy perhaps if he can keep it up for a few years - his best was at that level.

Clarkson may, however, be the greatest coach of all time if hawks win another flag during this era of unequal equalisation (COLA, academies etc).

we had a different coach when ling was around. I have no idea why some coaches dont rate mitchell. He burns us every game now because we dont put a close tag on him.

It is what it is.

Anyway my argument with Mitchell is if you put forward the 10 year period say 2006 - 2016 where gablett has dominated a few players have been up there with him though patches.
At one point Judd was better. At another Swan and Watson where able to match him. But over the entire period Ablett beats them all, form, injuries and falling away with age have stopped them from maintaining it with him.

Over the entire period if we are picking a mid "besides gablett" Mitchell is your best bet, partly because he has gotten better with age and been lucky with injury.
