Anyone playing today likely to be a top 10 of all time?

Most punters would include names like Matthews, Carey, Dunstall, GAblett x 2, Scarlett, Enright, Roo x 2, Harvey x 2, Judd, Goodes, Diesel, Hird, SOS, Voss...

Fyfe is a good chance, maybe Buddy for mine...

Anyone else?

Fyfe is a good chance, maybe Buddy for mine...
I feel both of these players are legitimate chances. Fyfe could end his career with another half a dozen years of midfield dominance and 3-4 Brownlows which would make a pretty good argument. Franklin will finish as a top 10 goalscorer of all time, quite possibly even higher, and the only one of those players to start his career post-1995 in the current era which has seen less goals for the dominant forwards.

I think Franklin would have to be the best candidate of any player to have established some sort of career and is still playing. As a key forward he's stood above his peers in his position I'm not sure many have historically. I'll preface all of this by saying I have seen **** all pre 00s football so ignore the rest if you want. But guys like Carey, Ablett, Dunstall, Lockett all played around the same time and all excelled and all feature in discussions like this. But they were never outrageously better than each other from what I can tell. Then came Richardson/Lloyd/Tredrea/Brown/Pavlich who dominated but never really gained that much separation from their peers. Franklin is a level above other key forwards of his time in a way that I don't think any of those guys were from what I can tell. From 08 onwards if Franklin has been fit he has been the best key forward in the league and it hasn't even been that debatable save for maybe 2 or three years where he was the 2nd-4th best performed key forward. Statistically he just blows everyone away in this timeframe.

Maybe I'm just talking shit and players have actually just gotten dramatically worse around him but I think it's much more likely the game has just shifted in a way that makes it harder to smash out 90+ goals a season and Franklin has gone unheralded in the 'great player' stakes.

Neither are in the top 10

G Ablett Jnr the only one still playing who is a chance
Yeah I agree but I just thought that Pavlich deserved to be in with the names that were mentioned in the OP.

I assume this means of the history of football. Looking now and recent years.

Ablett is the only one currently playing who would get a clear invite.

Dean Cox would have to be considered. He took rucking to a whole new level. Borderline choice.

Fyfe has a long, long, long, long way to go until he is considered.

Buddy could if he had another couple of 2008 type impact seasons.

Judd at the start of his career would have been seen as a shoe in. Not sure anymore. Similar to Buddy shone in his early years and gone slowly down downhill.

People saying Scarlett. Best KPD over the last 20 years. However look beyond that and Mews, Langford and Silvagni (spelling?) would all have him covered.

Why lol? Pendlebury is the type of player that won't be affected by him losing pace, he played his 200th game at 26 and has been a league top 5/10 player since 2010. Only Ablett can rival that this decade.

Will probably go down as their greatest ever player by the time he is done, putting him ahead of players such as Gordon Coventry, Peter Daicos, Nathan Buckley and the like.

SP is a great player, don't get me wrong. But when you talk about the all time greats I don't believe that he is in the same conversation as some of the other candidates.

For example, Lockett wasn't even mentioned in the OP....

I said, by the time he is finished. You look at all the greats, what were they like at 26? Had they played their 200th game by that stage?

If he continues on his current course, he will be in the conversation.

Only Scarlett in a top ten is Johannson in my spank bank!

Whatever floats your boat....
