Get the older clubs supporters to list their clubs top 10 of all time then realize most clubs will be lucky to get one player in the top 10 of all time

Save time by listing the top two from each. that's a top 30

Possibly fyfe could win another brownlow or 2 i reakon!

Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk

Considering they rave on when he runs around injured and achieves nothing. Not dissing him, but hes a clear vote attracter

We're not talking about a level of excellence that a player just achieves; we're talking about a finite list. If Ablett Jr is now considered top ten, he pushes someone out of that group and takes their spot, anyone else needs to knock someone else out of that spot.

It's funny that Australian Football is one of the few sports that doesn't have a clear G.O.A.T. Cricket has Bradman, Football has Pele, Basketball has Jordan, Golf has Nicklaus, Swimming has Phelps, Squash has McKay (!), etc.

I assume this means of the history of football. Looking now and recent years.

Ablett is the only one currently playing who would get a clear invite.

Dean Cox would have to be considered. He took rucking to a whole new level. Borderline choice.

Fyfe has a long, long, long, long way to go until he is considered.

Buddy could if he had another couple of 2008 type impact seasons.

Judd at the start of his career would have been seen as a shoe in. Not sure anymore. Similar to Buddy shone in his early years and gone slowly down downhill.

People saying Scarlett. Best KPD over the last 20 years. However look beyond that and Mews, Langford and Silvagni (spelling?) would all have him covered.
Sounds pretty reasonable.

Williams at his best was a far better player then Mitchell. People have short memories. Mitchell does have amazing high consistency though. Brownlow votes aren't a great measure. Williams wasn't exactly the umps favourite either given all the mouthing off he did. Umps have admitted they didnt give him votes because of it.

The notable thing is that carey was half right, most clubs didn't/wouldn't have drafted Mitch, even after a hot start winning the VFL medal in a canter.

also the love for diesel waxed and waned during his career

Surely you joke?

Some other players in the mix for top 10:

Carey
Ablett Snr
Lockett
Dunstall
Hudson
Coleman
Pratt
Coventry
Matthews
Bartlett
Bunton
Stewart
Reynolds
Hutchisson
Skilton
Williams
Whitten

I'd say Ablett Jnr is in the mix with them. Lol at Pendlebury. He's arguably not even top 10 of the last 20 years.

Just as an aside using the internet to rank players can have unexpected consequences.

FIFA ran an internet poll to determine the player of the century.
Much to Sepp Blatter's chagrin Maradona won the poll with over 50% of the vote (Pele received less than
20%).
So FIFA set up a panel of experts to determine the best player of the 20th century, which Pele won comfortably (Maradona finished 5th).

Consequently FIFA now have 2 (male) Player(s) of the Century.

Williams was a freak, Mitchell is good but not up to Diesel! But for Deisel to make the top 10 who would you knock out? The only three certanties are Lockett , Carey and Matthews, then the fun starts!

Cox is an interesting one. But does he replace Polly? If Goldy has a couple more seasons like 2015 we will forget about Cox.
Goldstein would need a bit more then a couple or seasons. Sandilands at the same age beat Goldstein in nearly all stats in 2008 and was still second ruck to Cox...

And if Hodge leads us to another flag and another NS then he deserves to be considered.

Pav cant get there without dominating a GF.
Would take neither in consideration, but a combination of Pav's career consistency and Hodge's finals record/success probably would get you close.

Hodge Top 10 all time talk is laughable. He's never been the best player in the competition at any stage.

Pavlich's candidacy is not hurt by one GF appearance - it's a team game. But he is disqualified for the same reason Hodge is.

Matthews is certainly a name bandied around for G.O.A.T. but there is plenty of debate around it. Not so for the others I mentioned above.

Bunton's achievements seem to get glossed over or forgotten because he played for a poor VFL team and he played before television and disposal statistics. But he won 3 Brownlows and 3 Sandover Medals - surely more than a fluke or an exceptional relationship with umpires.

Go back to 2013 and look at all the threads from hawthorn and neutrals debating whether franklin was better in 2008 or 2013. Many neutrals thought 2013 was better. I don't. But it was easily his second best. 2011 not even in the debate.
No one was debating Franklin 2013 season it was 2011 and 2012 season which were discussed.

Judd at WC yes but he was a shadow of his days at WC at Carlton.

Still won a brownlow at Carlton, and have a look at his finals against Sydney and Richmond and come back to me.
He was a different player at Carlton, but hardly a shadow of the West Coast days.

He won a Brownlow when he wasn't the best player of 2010. His form in 2004/2005 was at about 100 percent, his form compared to that at Carlton would lucky to been have been 70 percent.

Swan or Mitchell have been the best midfielders after Ablett in this timeframe.

Regardless he was still good enough to win it. Realise that Swan was stiff to miss out.

His body is just about gone. Like most big key forwards he will be done by 30. He might play on a lot longer than that but will be a shadow of his former self like Carey and Dermie before him.
His move was entirely financially based. He won't retire until all the money is his, unless the AFL catches him for his rumoured 'three strike policy' breaking.

Only Ablett jr is a top 10 all time great. Should have 3 or 4 Brownlows and 2 more flags. Don't trade away your happiness now to earn money in hopes that if you make enough you'll be able to buy it back later. You can't. Financially satisfied...philosophically trying?

If Fyfe wins another Brownlow, wins a flag and stays injury free then he will move into the top 10. He just turned 24 in September! By age 27 i expect him to be a top 10 all time great. This kid is everything you want in a footballer.

Since 2000:
Many contenders in a game that has changed so much.
Judd - his years at West Coast were extraordinary
Goodes - People should not forget how good he was between 2003- 2010
Scarlett - The backbone of Geelong's successful era, under rated IMO, without him the Cats would not have been as good.

Cos 50 other guys have 200+ Brownlow votes. Amirite?

Its amazing how many average players Hawthorn has. Mmm hmm.

More crying about the lack of recognition Hawthorn get. Y'all so insecure. Mitchell is nowhere near all time top ten, nowhere near it. I don't know if he would make Hawthorn's top ten but since Hawthorn are so under appreciated only you guys know the Hawk players.

Reckon you've got it bang on, apart from Fyfe; too early to tell (although he's made an excellent start).
Those disparaging Scarlett have nfi - Geelong built the most successful team they've ever fielded around him.
Ablett, Judd, Goodes, lock 'em in for Legend status down the track. Scarlett too.
