Only Ablett jr is a top 10 all time great. Should have 3 or 4 Brownlows and 2 more flags. Don't trade away your happiness now to earn money in hopes that if you make enough you'll be able to buy it back later. You can't. Financially satisfied...philosophically trying?

If Fyfe wins another Brownlow, wins a flag and stays injury free then he will move into the top 10. He just turned 24 in September! By age 27 i expect him to be a top 10 all time great. This kid is everything you want in a footballer.

Judd - his years at West Coast were extraordinary
Goodes - People should not forget how good he was between 2003- 2010
Scarlett - The backbone of Geelong's successful era, under rated IMO, without him the Cats would not have been as good.

Fyfes kicking is the only thing that lets him down. It's very ordinary and it may have already cost Freo a flag.

Still won a brownlow at Carlton, and have a look at his finals against Sydney and Richmond and come back to me.
He was a different player at Carlton, but hardly a shadow of the West Coast days.

The year he won the Brownlow he only scraped into the all Australian team and probably shouldn't of been there. He wasn't close to the best players in the comp that year.

So much overrating of current and recently retired players. Robert Harvey had a long career yes, but if you chose a dream team from his era there are a lot of midfielders you'd choose before him. Same with Boomer. Scarlett and Enright is just laughable.

Goodes was not that good between 2003-10. Incredibly overrated along with Simon Black. Can anyone actually think of games that Goodes played that were worthy of being spoken about as a top 20 player?

Scarlett doesn't belong in this conversion either. He does belong in the conversation of best full backs/defenders of all time but not in the best player conversation.

Swan was the dominant midfielder in 2010/2011 and should have won back to back Brownlows.

Ablett probably should of won the Brownlow in 2010. averaged over 30 touches a game and kicked nearly fifty goals. Was destructive. Also wasn't helped by Thompson sticking him in the pocket for long periods of time because of their feud. But swan improved a lot in 2010 and was Collingwood thus got all the media attention that year.

Go back to 2013 and look at all the threads from hawthorn and neutrals debating whether franklin was better in 2008 or 2013. Many neutrals thought 2013 was better. I don't. But it was easily his second best. 2011 not even in the debate.

After that it's pretty fairly hard to pick. Fyfe is a chance if he maintains the level he is at.
Franklin is a funny one. He has clearly been the best KPF for such a long time that he has to be put up for consideration. I can't think of any other KPP that has been as far ahead of his peers at the time they played but in saying that I don't think at anytime he has even been the best player in the league.

Sorry dunstall ain't there. There are about four full forwards better then He was. Lockett, Pratt, Coleman and Hudson. Dunstall probably ranks alongside Coventry behind those four.

It's funny that Australian Football is one of the few sports that doesn't have a clear G.O.A.T. Cricket has Bradman, Football has Pele, Basketball has Jordan, Golf has Nicklaus, Swimming has Phelps, Squash has McKay (!), etc.

I don't think it's that clear-cut with swimming. Mark Spitz' record is pretty comparable and the first two google results that come up both rank him ahead of Phelps in their lists.

Nope. franklin had dodgy hands/shoulders then and couldn't take overhead marks. 2008 and 2013 by far his best years. I do remember Lonergan taking franklin to the cleaners on a number of occasions in 2011 though.

Williams at his best was a far better player then Mitchell. People have short memories. Mitchell does have amazing high consistency though. Brownlow votes aren't a great measure. Williams wasn't exactly the umps favourite either given all the mouthing off he did. Umps have admitted they didnt give him votes because of it.

I strongly disagree - i went to about 30-40 Swans games live at the SCG during that period

I cant believe how highly rated Williams is - and its like a snowball each year his rating gets higher and higher !

Have a look at his finals record at the Swans in 87 and 88 when they got flogged - hardly sighted . Williams and Healey for that matter get talked up as greats - yet the late Merv Neagle played terriffic football for the Swans week in week out and yet doesnt get a mention - and he didnt go AWOL in their 2 finals years campaign

Williams had a terrible record at Waverly ( because of his lack of pace ) that even got discussed in the media at the time - best example is the 94 shock Carlton semi final loss out their - Liam Pickering ( Pickers of all players ) annihilated him - yet he is one of the all time greats

I allways rated Craig Bradley a genuine superstar and a mile better than Greg Williams - yet he hardly gets a mention

Mitchell has got Williams covered easily - hes a great player - hes got no weaknesses - hes got better penetration with his kicking - and is extremely consistent - both home and away and finals games

Williams was on the interchange bench in the Team of the Century named at the end of his career. Means good judges rated a number of players as better.

Williams v Mitchell on the other hand ... very close. Mitchell is still underrated.

You've got it the wrong way around with 2011 and 2013.

He was unstoppable in 2011, as good as his 2008 season and should have won the AFL MVP.

Gee that's tough on Goodes, he could run all day, 30 + possessions a game, you had to have your best tagger on him all day. I remember Max Rooke vomiting after the game having played on Goodes who ran and and ran and ran. Scarlett was a general on the field, under appreciated as a club leader.

Those disparaging Scarlett have nfi - Geelong built the most successful team they've ever fielded around him.
Ablett, Judd, Goodes, lock 'em in for Legend status down the track. Scarlett too.

Legend status for sure....Scarlett was like general Patton and the 3rd army, he had the troops and charged forward...under rated and under appreciated by the football knobs on here. Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own and many football fans were extremely envious of Matthew Scarlett.

I tend to rate finals performance highly. And why I discount GAJ's last 4 years.

Which is stupid. Bob Skilton is still considered by many as a top 10 player of all time, won three Brownlow's, nine B&F's and was named rover in the AFL team of the century, yet he only played one final in his 237 game career.

You cannot penalise a player by the quality of the team he's surrounded by.
