Judd I don't think makes it. He was on track but too many injuries and a weak Carlton squad didn't help. Top 50 but that's it.

Franklin was also on track but will need a very strong end to his career.

Let's remember that top 10 in one of the oldest sporting leagues in the world is nothing to laugh at.

As another poster (who is not a Geelong supporter) put it, Scarlett changed the way KPD's play. He is probably the only key backman I know who was ever tagged by an opposition player to quell his attacking game. Matthew Lloyd ranks him as the toughest full back he played on. And 6 AA selections, including selection in 2003 when the Cats were an average team did not come by chance.

I rate blokes like Milburn and Enright higher. But that's my opinion.

Scarlett was a fine KPD but to rate him above most of, if not all those blokes to me is insane. Scarlett gets way too much hype for a guy who often played on the 3rd tall.

My father is in his 70s and puts Farmer behind Matthews only. So ahead of Carey and Barassi and Whitten and all the others from the 50s onward who he saw play.

Cox completely dominated the game but Farmer completely changed the game.

Cox was great and won 6 AAs but he was an around the ground specialist imo and not good enough to be in the top 10 of all time. He wasn't that good in contests, didn't take many contested marks, or kick that many goals. He actually also didn't dominate hitouts, although his ruck work itself was top notch.

What he did do was revolutionise his position and played like an extra midfielder. He was also very consistent for a significant period of time.

Great player, but not dominant enough to be a top 10 player of all time.

So your criteria for Judd to be top ten is to be our best and rated ahead of say, Nicholls, Kernahan, Doull, Silvagni and Jesaulenko?

We didn't put Williams in the top five because he didn't play enough games.

Would love to see Hawthorn's best five or six if you wouldn't put Judd on par with Tuck, Platten and your mids who aren't Leigh Matthews.

Bit of a stretch to say he was as skilful as those players listed. Scarlett was a great player, but why are most neutrals disagreeing that he is anywhere near a top 10 status.
Saying that Scarlett changed the way a defender plays is also a stretch, there were attacking defenders well before Scarlett.

To even consider Scarlet as a top 10 player is absolutely ridiculous, he was a solid Backman but shouldn't even be talked about with the likes of Carey, Lockett and Co. I think Ben Hart 300 game player was truly fantastic but am not that biased about considering him for a top 10 of all time

Exactly. He was a great and important player for Geelong.

Josh Gibson has been huge for Hawthorn in our threepeat having won our club B&F in 2 of the 3 years. Has been an incredible combatant playing on guys bigger than him, having the nous to know when to break away and go 3rd man up, and on many an occasion has been instrumental in providing rebound from defense with plenty of games with high stats.

Not going to see any Hawthorn posters throw his name up here though as being a possible top 10 of all time. Yet we're ridiculed for even suggesting that our best player of the last decade and arguably one of the best centremen of the past 2 decades should only be part of the discussion.

Chris Mew was the perfect example of an offensive CHB.

I rate him higher than Langford. Yabby Jeans did too.

The Hawthorn TOTC selectors rated him higher than Peter Knights as well.

Aker was a more damagining player than Voss. And is generally undervalued because he is a nob of a bloke, not because he lacked skills.

Yeah Mitchell. And I actually agree, great player but not top 10 of all time. But certainly more worthy of being in the discussion than a lot of names being thrown about here.

No offence, but judd hardly ever played well let alone stood out v hawthorn. I just find asking those who saw a player a lot to compare against other greats of that club. And if hes not top one ot two, hes unlikely to be in the top 20 let alone top 10 GOAT

Its the same with buddy. Hardly top 10 ever at the hawks so no chance really

Ashley McIntosh was a better FB than Scarlett, he played on a lot more damaging FF's than Scarlett and was said to be the best FB during his time by Plugga Lockett.
