No Watson?

Zaharakis doesnt make it?

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

So, so, so, so, so many things wrong with bn1 team it aint funny

- NO WATSON, ZAHA, HOWLETT (now i know its your opinion on players not mine)

- 15 player team

- No half forward line

- playing 4 on the bench + sub

- Ross in your top 22

besides that youve done quite well

edit: know it isnt your team hank, its BN1 team

Ill do a quick one, probably forget a few players

Flecther - Pears - Mcveigh

Heppell - Hooker - Hardingham

Winderlich - Watson - Stanton (really like this midfield, pretty usual but all need to go to another level and Winders, Stants need to go up 2 or 3 levels)

Monfries - Gumbleton - Zaha

A.Davey - Hurley - Ryder

Hille - Melksham (tagging) - Jetta

Howlett, Colyer, Hocking

sub: Dempsey

emg: Prismall, Myers, Slattery

Now you know i have an emphasis on youth and giving them a crack if they deserve it. Welsh,NLM, Williams no where near my side. Hardingham goes down back due to playing Hurley and Ryder deep forward and Davey needed for defensive pressure. Happy to push Heppell upto a wing but id like Stanton to be our accumulator, Watson our gun and Winders our line breaker who can kick goals finally reach there potential. If it was my team id play Zaha onball i think he will be an absolute gun and will have a breakout season. Melksham to tag in the Bastinac 2010 role and learn how to play on the best and how to play like the best. I still think Zaha can be a very good player from a HFF (really like our HFF line). Still have massive question marks on Jetta as an onballer hows he travelling preseason does he have the engine yet?? happy to replace him with myers or Zaha and play him off the bench or HFF.

I still think Prismall can be an A grade player so hed be straight into the side if he looks the goods. (Winders, Stants, Watson, Prismall) really have to go to new levels all have the ability to be either A graders or really quality B graders, how these 4 go could determine our season.

Players im most excited about next year are Myers and Zaharkis, definitly capable of being stars they need to show it next year.

Have fixed the HF line, just missed it. Pretty obvious though, so there was not really any need. Watson is in the side. Zaha has to prove he is a full time mid, not a forward come midfielder, I feel if we need a forward- mid, Reimers is slightly better in terms of potential. Ideally I want Zaka replacing a midfielder. Howlett is in the emergencies. What is wrong with Ross? Is there anything wrong with giving a youngster a go as an emergency (and it is not as if he'll play anyway)

Whateva Prismall becomes, he may be a "a" grader or "c" grader, but he sets a great platform for the team by training and working so hard to be the best he can be. The bloke is possessed. If our whole list learns from him and stants, then our club will be in great hands

Wonder if Zaharakis could play a more permanent role in the midfield/wing and Prismall play across half forward.

True reasons as to why he was only being roatated through the Geelong midfield starting to come out now?

Would love to know from a Geelong supporter as to why Prismal was only being played forward of the center rather than through the centre?

I'm not going to attempt a best 22 this early as I feel it is kind of a pointless task. But there are few notes I will make:

- At this stage no first year player can be in your best 22, we haven't seen them play yet and you are only guessing
- Hardingham should be no where near our best 22
- I think Williams will take Monfries' role, I don't think both of them can play in the forward line together
- Hille and Ryder to rotate between forward and ruck, not needing too much of a rest on the bench.
- Forward line would look something like:
Davey, Hurley, Hille/Ryder
Williams, Gumbleton, rotating midfielder (Zaharakis/Colyer/Winderlich/Monfries)
- at this stage you would suggest from the training reports that Hurley will be playing forward

Very valid question and reasoning The House. Fletch is great on the last line of defence and 'potentially' could be exposed for pace/endurance on a half back flank. I simply named him there so he can play a loose man in defence type of role, and use his long raking kicks to pump the ball directly into our forward 50.
If an opposition coach were to name a young pacey type on Fletch then Fletch is smart enough to use his height, reach and long kicks to our advantage, and some of our other backman can keep that pacey forward in check. It's really about the back 6 as a unit, and if they can work cohesively as a unit then potential flaws or weaknesses in individuals games, (and all players have them), will be less exposed.
I just feel we have enough depth back there with Pears, Hurley & Hooker to allow Fletch a bit of freedom and a more attacking defensive role - if you know what I mean.....

indeed i do :thumbsu:

Sounds like we essentially have the same sort of role in mind for fletch anyways.....i def agree he should be our cherry on top (as in 3rd tall/versatile tall), with Pears and Hooker our 2 main KP's.

i do also worry that if he is playing higher, coaches could also be tempted to drag him further out to the wings with a decoy of sorts....knowing he sets up so beautifully out of defense, i'm sure there'd be a few opposition coaches who would love to drag him out.

Some may say i've been mildly critical of H.Slattery over the journey :D so it's with a little hesitation that i say for me, hank, spike and fletch are fighting for 2 spots.

irrespective of what i or others think of Hank, imho i think moving fletcher up the ground at this stage is not ideal, and i'm not sure i can see Hank as a successful half back flanker at all.....maybe if spike's body surprises us all and he is able to push further up the ground he could be released a little, but obviously selecting hank has severe restrictions as to what roles he can and can't play within any defensive mix.

i guess what i'm getting at is if people rank hank (that rhymes) above mcveigh or fletch that's fine, but putting all 3 into the back 6 will usually create a structure in which at least one of them is playing a role to which they're not ideally suited. ;)

Best 22 is, at best, a utopian concept.
I'd be disappointed if they stuck to the same side; we'd all be worried if they stuck with a losing side.

There's balance and flexibility to worry about too, as House says.
Backline structure/match-ups have to depend on what the other side plays.
You can have some inflexible guys, you just need to make sure you've got 2 or 3 options everywhere in the selected 22.

Dunno if there's even a back 6 now.
Seems more a case 4 or 5 defenders and about 3 or 4 mid/wing/half-back guys dropping or zoning back at any one point.

I just can't bring myself to doing one of these, as as S20 said, there's really no such thing anymore.

I guess my version would be the side we'd take in to a dry, standard day in September for a Grand Final, against a generic opponent with no standout strengths or weaknesses.

Still, having not seen any of the recruits, I'm a bit hesitant.

I might wait until the pre-season.

wise words indeed :D

i guess it's just a fun exercise that essentially highlights our areas of strength and weakness, and is usually a good guide to depth and flexibility.

Similar to predicting a ladder in advance, you can never really expect to nail it from start to finish, and realistically need to bracket teams to allow for unforseen variables....eg the following 5 teams will fight for the last 2 positions in the 8, these 4 will fight it out for the spoon, etc.

An ideal 22 probably should be similar in that i think from memory i've listed 31 players, and purely for the sake of the exercise i've listed 22 + the 9, with the idea that these 31 are the players i envisage i'd be selecting my 22 from at least most weeks.
