Very out there, I would only change a couple.

Prismall out for Myers, I want Myers in there.
Swap Hooker and Winderlich.
Move Demps to the wing, monfries hff and Stanton on ball.
I want Hocking up the ground, but we really have nobody else to play there do we?

Like a lot of the ideas though, playing Ryder forward and Bellchambers instead of Neagle, definately playing Howlett and Colyer, Zaharakis onball, Jetta up the ground-ish. All big pluses :thumbsu:

Stanton & Dempsey to Gold Coast for picks 9 & 26 (can even add Prismall NLM or Lonergan to sweeten deal)

Picks 9 & 26 to Brisbane for Brennan & Rischitelli

Pick 6 & Houli to Bulldogs for Griffen

Wishful thinking I know but I'm just throwing it out there.

efa. problems:

1. forward line too top heavy
2. Howlett HB?????? throw Dempsey there, Howlett on ball, Stanton wing and Melk on the bench
3. Jetta>>>Prismall

my third effort:

Fletcher-Hooker-McVeigh
Pears-Hurley-Hocking
Stanton-Watson-Winderlich
Zaharakis-Gumbleton-Hardingham
Monfries-Carlisle-Davey
Ryder-Howlett-Myers
Jetta-Hille-Melksham-Colyer-(Houli)-(Dempsey)-T Slattery-Lonergan-Prismall

want so many in, but so hard to fit into the 22 :(. want 6 man bench and 3 subs. the extra's in brackets, subs in bold.

yes. I know that the idiots Adrian Anderson and Andrew Demetriou will do stuff that makes sense

OK, here is something a little bit different from the contrary..

Our next 'top 4' side:

B: Tyson Slattery - Tayte Pears - Cale Hooker

HB: **** - Michael Hurley - ****

C: Jason Winderlich - Jobe Watson - Travis Colyer

HF: **** - Scott Gumbleton - David Zaharakis

F: Alwyn Davey - Jake Carlisle - ****

R: Paddy Ryder - Jake Melksham - Ben Howlett

I/C: Tom Bellchambers - Taite Silverlock - **** - ****

Emer: Kyle Reimers - Leroy Jetta - ****

**** = Positions we lack.. Some players that could come in have been left out, but this is the start of our template that could see us move back up the ladder..

Don;t ask when we are going to be challenging again, but I would like to see us entering into the top 4 in by 2013..

seriously, this thread is a waste of time right now.

leave it till after trade week. We may or may not land what we want to land, but you wont be able to say we didn't try.

Maybe but it's nicer than all the threads about how much we suck.

Your right but looking at the names in the best 22 is also a reminder about how much we suck....

Looking at our mid tiered players, how many of them would you all consider being premiership material?

I think HFF's line up summed up that our best shot at winning a premiership is with our unproven youngsters. Which is fairly sad when you think about it. I'm still hoping we can catch a lucky break and finally get a good trade or two this trade week.

Dude, in regards to the trades..

I do not think Essendon has ever really landed a 'big fish' in the Judd mould..

Essendon supporters sometimes tend to forget, >insert 'player x' name here< + 2nd Rounder for >insert star player here</top 10 pick here..

So thinking about that, what is more likely to land a top 10 pick?

Brent Stanton + Pick 8,

or
Henry Slattery + Pick 46 (3rd Rounder?)

For Pick # 4 (example only)..

Seems like people sometimes tend to forget, just because we dont want our trash, doesnt mean everyone else does.

And to Slattery 20

You do have a fair point, but I just think that he is one talent that Essendon will not get rid of cheaply and will try and hold on and give him every opportunity to succeed..

Does not mean he will be a guaranteed certain best 22 player by this time.

Just thought id add a bit of a side note. Also a bit of a positive for the future.
I am falling in love with the idea of hooker hurley pears playing down back next year together. Pears can take tall or small depending on match ups. All 3 can play lock down and 3rd tall. All highly skilled big men. Great defensive future ahead of us guys. Just need to think about that to get me through these dark days.

This posesv a question rusman

Is Fletcher holding back the development of these three playing down back together?

Interesting point. Quite possibly when they are all playing together. However that did not happen much this year. Fletch can still play on that small 4th forward like a medhurts or so and provide some words and fists of wisdom which hopefully they learn from and don rely on.

In my eyes fletch can and will never do no wrong :D

Probably not because Fletcher can play a variety of roles in defence.

Colyer has got a bit of young Boomer Harvey about him, surely with a good pre season you've got to make a spot in the 22 for him.

And Dempsey to the wing, same with Harbrow for us, both can run and attack but are very suspect as defenders.

Forgive my intrusion, but I live 5 mins from Windy Hill, so even though Im a passionate cat man, I appreciate the Bombers and like to see em do well. I reckon your assets are your pace and skillful players. Also reckon your spine (under a GOOD coach) is actually very underated.
So... I reckon your best side looks like this

B: Houli , Pears, Fletcher

HB: Long , Hurley, Winderlich

C: Atkinson, Jobe, Dempsey

HF: Davey, Gumby, Williams Hardingham

F: Monfries, Ryder, Jetta

R: Hille, Zaharakis, Lovett-Murray

IB: Neagle, Riemers, Welsh, Mcveigh

Ok... a few eyebrow raises no doubt, and comments along the lines of "Cats supporter, doesnt know our team"
But...
Houli in a back pocket. is tough, and hard at it. could play an enright role. Enright lacks pace as well, but is a hard nut and his use has improved vastly over the journey.
LONG Teach him to be the quarterback. From what ive seen, he is quick and skillful. Could play a Harbrow type role
Winderlich Love his pace. Atkinson and Dempsey havent worked down back. They play too loose generally. Windowlicker could be the guy to nail that spot.
Atkinson LOVE his pace. His use got a lot better this year, and Im staggered Knights refused to play him the 2nd half of the year.He makes you unpredictable.
Dempsey Quick and hard.
Williams Showed at Hawthorn over a long period of time that he is a proven goal kicker. Knights is the problem here.
Gumby Will be a absolute JET.
Ryder Wasted in the ruck. Could be as good as Franklin
Zahrakis Massively underated. Should be playing on the ball most weeks.
Lovett-Murray Big. tall, uses it better than any other Essendon player, and has a streak of shit in him. Love the way he plays.
Neagle HAS to be your Leigh Brown/ Tom Hawkins, part time ruck man who kicks a couple.

This is a changed side, but lets be honesst, you need to do something different.

B: Houli
You had me until this.
Houli in a back pocket. is tough, and hard at it. could play an enright role.
And that just ices it.
If Houli were tough, clean under pressure, and hard at it; he would have played almost every game this year.
I'm not sure whether he can improve it enough... guys like mackie & Hunt definitely earned reputations for failures under pressure and have equally worked their way out of it... but toughness is not Houli's strong suit atm.

No, his on field leadership is one of the main reasons for Paddy, Tayter, Hooker and probably Hurley now developing so quickly.

Before he did his ankle he was in and out. It has surprised me that Knights has certain duds he refused to drop (Welsh, Stanton) yet others that only need to have a half bad game, and they are out. Thank goodnes (for you guys) he is gone.

You missed my point. Early on, Enright was similar, but playing him and letting him get confidence has made him the player he is. The signs (to me anyway) are there that Houli will be a great player if you give him the chance.
