No hooker? surely you jest

While a very good player, I don't think he's better than Hurley or Carlisle, with whom he competes for a place in my side. In that sense, I feel with his currency we should use him to pry one of GWS' excess tall forwards at seasons end. Imagine Daniher / Patton up one end and Carlisle / Hurley at the other with Ryder / Bellchambers as the ruck - forward combination. Best tall timber in the league!

Where is the shooting yourself in the head with a magnum icon when you need it?

Wasn't sure where to put this post, but here seems as good as anywhere.
I don't know what others are making of the year so far but i find myself pretty damned surprised. What surprises me are these names coming out of nowhere;
Ambrose
Zach
Gleeson
and to an extent Jackson
I thought we might get one or two guys step up early this year, but 4? I count Jackson in there because he was far from a certain starter even in round one. I was really concerned that our depth was looking better on paper than reality, and to be fair only Jackson and Gleeson have come up in the usual way. Seriously, what are the chances that we would be getting this sort of return from Ambrose and Zach in the first few rounds of their first season? How good are they? Is this just a flash in the pan? You would have to think not.
Then you look at the guys waiting in the wings; Dempsey, TBC, Kommer, Dalgleish, Pears etc
The ramifications for our best 22 and our prospects for 2015 are huge. It's an early call, but i wouldn't mind betting that we go into next year as one of the favourites for the flag. Everything looks to be coming together with perfect timing. Even this year is becoming promising, but we will be heavily reliant on TBC taking another good step up as a forward to cover for JD later in the year. It takes a lot of luck to win a flag, but it's nice to know that you have the cattle if the luck swings your way!

Just to return to the Hooker debate for a minute- I'm sorry, but the exclusion of him is absolutely mystifying. And that's me being really polite.

How he could possibly be excluded after the form he has shown for us, especially since the beginning of 2013- well I have no words.

Hooker is vital to the team. He is presently our best defender.

I have been on the "Hooker is pretty good but Carlisle and Hurley are far better and Pears is a better 3rd tall" bandwagon for a few years. His form early last year was fantastic with his intercept marking, but Carlisle was still taking the big guy. This year Hooker has gone one better and is taking the big guy AND getting off him to intercept mark. If he keeps improving at this rate he could be to KPD stocks what Watson was to midfield, a pleasant surprise that gets better each year.

The whole 3rd tall things is pretty ok with Hurley who is quick enough to go with most forwards and competes hard enough to go with any monster, well Sandilands may be a bridge too far. So down the track we can go Carlisle, Hooker and Hurley down back if JD develops well enough to be solo KPF with a resting ruck. We could also go Hooker, Hurley and Pears down back with Carlisle and Daniher up front with the resting ruck.

Though if we could get Jeremy Cameron for Hooker, Hurley or Carlisle I'd take it

Best 22 for me, based on early season form:
FB: Baguley Hooker Fletcher
HB:Dempsey Hurley Hibberd
C: Stanton Myers Goddard
HF: Chapman Carlisle Winderlich
FF: JMerrett Daniher Melksham
R: Ryder Watson Hocking
Int: TBell, Heppell, Gleeson Sub:Hardingham

No matter which way you line it up.. **** we have a good team! Quality in EVERY line.. at least 10 guys that I would have no hesitation in saying are top line players..

Can't wait to see it all come together, finally!

Zerrett for Hardringham, but otherwise you have it spot on. That said I would really feel bad about dropping Curtly, he provides a needed link. Heppell starts on the field though (mute point though)

Couldn't put my finger on how you managed to get both Gleeson and Jackson in. Like Ronny says, no Zaka! ;)
So Gleeson out, Zaka in. Raffle the sub.
Ambrose is a god send isn't he? We now have a straight up replacement for maybe four of our KPF's, which is just crucial really. Hope he can make it through to the end of the finals series, given his famous fitness levels.

My bad.. can't believe I forgot zaka...!

Also you can make a case for Howlett over Hardingham.. just so many options..

I sit back and think that there are changes to the best 22 that need to be made and it only gets worse after seeing the attributes of some of the young guys on display.

Then I look at the team and have no idea where you'd even start with making tough calls on players though I have some suspicions about maybe two players standing up when we need them to most (we'll see what happens in the next few weeks).

Think that if we can add the run of Melksham and Dempsey to what we are getting from an improved Jackson Merrett we are probably balanced enough (with more than just Zaharakis and Stanton). Would be nice to see the forward line settle for 10 weeks to show what it can do.

He'd be damn close to the best straight up minder of KPFs in the league right now.

My new best team:

FB: Baguley - Hooker - Fletcher

HB: Dempsey - Hurley - Hibberd

C: Stanton - Watson - Zaharakis

HF: Goddard - Carlisle - Chapman

FF: Winderlich - JoeD - TBC

RR: Ryder - Hocking - Heppell

Myers, Melksham, Gleeson
Sub: J.Merrett

I dont think ive missed anyone. Loved what Hardingham has brought us up forward so far on rack to kick 40 goals for the year and just looks dangerous. Injuries will mean he continues to get plenty of games but when Winderlich and TBC return up forward hed be making way. Howlett is also very unlucky to miss, provides great backup and would be pushing very close with J.Merrett for that sub position.

Man i can't ****ing believe i forgot Howlett! He is straight back in and Jackson gets sub. Cannot believe there is not a place in the best 22 team for Jackson right now! Despite what others say, Howlett is still well and truly best 22 for mine. He does the hard physical stuff as well as hits the score board. He is the sort of shinboner you want in a quality side. That said, if Jackson keeps getting 25> touches each week, then Howlett becomes one seriously unlucky footballer.
Does anyone think Howlett can take another step up? Can he keep the sort of form he showed in early 2013 consistently?

As we all see , its hard to pick the best 22 , if we could it would be good to see them week in week out PLAYING together every game !

When you're seriously struggling to fit in high quality players, thats when you know you have a really deep list. Future looks promising.

Midfield is stacked like pancakes, defense looks really good now with Hurley down back.

All we need now is that 60+ KPF that Daniher is teasing us to be.
