Please note: I've picked the team based on their inclusion in the 22, not their listed position. Cue the "Player A shouldn't be on the wing etc" brigade.

NOTE: There are 11 players in the 22 in the early stages of their career, but deserve their spot as it currently stands anyway. If Shaw can get them playing near to their potential (as individuals) , and more importantly, playing highly co-ordinated team football, this 22 should be a challenge to beat.

B: EVW Tazza Kyron

HB: Daw Mmmmkay Lmac

C: Higgo Cunners Dumont

HF: Zurhaar Brown Scott

F: Taylor Larkey Thomas

R: Goldie Jed Jy

I: Zeibell Atley Mahoney LDU

Emergency: W Walker J Walker Jmac M Williams

Others Notable Players: Murphy Hall Polec Durdin Bonar

So .... NO list changes then ???

So what's your forward six without Brown?
Depends what else we bring in
Brown isn’t playing atm and we’ve replaced him with Daw, J Walker, Xerri at stages
So that could continue
Or you pump games into Comben/if we draft another KPF then, like the saints and suns are going with the king twins

HF: Zurhaar Daw/First round 2020 pick/Comben Ziebell
FF:Thomas Larkey Taylor

B: EVW, McKay, J.Walker
HB: Hayden, Tarrant, McDonald
C: Higgins, Cunnington, Polec
HF: Zurhaar, Brown, Scott
F: Ziebell, Larkey, Turner

R: Goldstein, Davies-Uniake, Simpkin

I: Anderson, Phillips, Atley, Taylor

Emergency: Hall, Thomas, W. Walker, Pittard, MacMillan, Williams, Mahony, Bonar, Garner🤞

If he can remain fit, I think WW will slot on the wing. Also think Scott and Higgins may swap.

Definitely need a Turner type, hopefully we can draft someone who also has attacking ability like Pickett.

TT would have to be in the 22 after the next pre season. Would be a big disappointment if he isn’t.

Not a big fan of him but I think Dumont at least deserves to be considered in the extended emergencies while Maj should also be there.

I'm assuming we trade Ben Brown and Jared Polec for extra picks.

Best Line-up for 2021:

Back: Ed Vickers-Willis Robbie Tarrant Aidan Corr
Half-Back: Zac Williams Josh Walker Luke McDonald

Forward: Cameron Zurhaar Nick Larkey Jack Ziebell
Followers: Todd Goldstein Ben Cunnington Will Phillips

Interchange: Jed Anderson Shaun Atley Trent Dumont Will Walker

Emergency: Kyron Hayden Ben McKay Bailey Scott Tristan Xerri

Best Line-up for 2025 if we were banned from drafting, trading and recruiting from 2021 onwards:

There's heaps of unknowns to be settled yet.

For starters Polec and Turner won’t be at North with Garner Williams Pittard and Hall that won’t be at North either

Why would we banned from Drafting or Trading?
Please Explain

well going by some of those teams , a priority pick maybe on the horizon . Fancy having 3 KP backs in the line up 🤦‍♂️. Clubs would pick that apart with pace, which is intrinsic to success in the modern game. Some of those sides would have been ok in 1979.

After North Melbourne won the premiership in 2021 by a ridiculous margin; the AFL decided to change the rules to restore the balance of the universe.

North Melbourne accepted the challenge in order to give meaning to Shinboner Spirit on a whole new level.

In all seriousness, there are too many TBCs going beyond next year if I have to account for drafting, trading or recruiting.

In two years time we could look like this:

B: EVW (26) – McKay (24) – Hayden (23)
HB: McDonald (27) – Walker (29) – Atley (29)
C: Walker (23) – LDU (23) – Scott (20)
HF: Thomas (22) – Larkey (24) – Taylor (22)
F: Mahoney (20) – Brown (29) – Zurhaar (24)
R: Xerri (23) – Simpkin (24) – Anderson (28)
Int: Dumont (27) – Bonar (23) – Perez (20) – Comben (21)

Ave age 24.4

None of Tarrant – Higgins – Goldstein – Cunnington – Ziebell – Macmillan – Williams – Polec – Pittard – Hall – Daw – Jacobs – Wood – Garner – Tyson – Ahern – Durdin

Injuries and development would need to be perfect for that side to come on but there are some good bones there. If we can maximise our draft picks in the next two drafts and pick up a quality FA or two we can build some depth to replace those we lose. And we will lose a lot of good, experienced players in the next 24 months.

Wouldn't mind going back to 1979. We had a pretty reasonable side.

Was doing this exercise in my head this morning but aimed at 2023:
EVW - BMac - Boner
LMac - J Walker - Kyron
B Scott - LDU - W Walker
C Taylor - N Larkey - T Thomas
Cam Z - B Brown - Ziebs
Goldy - Jy - Cunners
Atley - Jed - Higgins - J Mahoney

if we wanted to be aggressive in this offseason I’d look to trade out Polec, M Wood, and I’d entertain Tarrant if he wanted to go. Alternatively I’d be happy for him to stay and train and mould our back 6 for another year. Same goes for Higgo, if wanted to go I’d entertain it but happy for him to stay and train up the mids.
I’d also be happy to trade Melbourne’s draft pick to try and nab and 20-24 inside mid.

I have been holding off on a 'best 22' team waiting to see how blokes like EVW and BMac perform, LDU's progression and whether Daw could get back to form.

It's still a little early but nevertheless we can now start to flesh this out.

An assumed list size of 40 players as below with best 22 and depth of 18.

Best 22 (with an eye to being successful next year but still getting some games into youngsters)

B Kyron Taz EVW
HB LMac BMac Higgo
C Polec Cunners Dumont
HF Curtis T J Walker Bailey
F Zurhaar Larks TT
R Goldie LDU Jy

Int - Jed, Daw, W Walker, pick 2 in draft (Philiips)

Depth/next 18 on the list to make it 40 players -

Senior depth ie can fulfil a role when needed (7) - Jmac, Turner, JZ, Pittard, Hall, Marley, Atley,

Youth depth - (11) Mahoney, Bonar, Perez, Comden, Xerri, Murphy, Ahern - plus 2 more first rounders and then 2 more later round picks this year.

10 players therefore come off the list this year

Traded - BBB for a first rounder

Out - Tom C, Wood, Durdin, Garner, Jacobs, Crocker, Hosie, Tyson (paid out), McGuiness

To the extent we want to get an FA, go to the PSD OR list sizes are reduced to sub 40, then one or more of the above 18 depth players would need to drop off. Murphy and Ahern most at risk there.
