You criticise us for only landing minnows and not a "big fish", one post after listing Mattner, Richards, Mumford, Guerra, Hale, Shaw, Lake etc etc as an example of what you think we should be doing?
Fair dinkum mate how did you get to be an op ? I said go after Omeara, Swallow, Prestia, Martin or Bennell from GC not those ones jeeez. Your just trolling for a meltdown and its despicable.

Well Ian Dargie would have us quit right now and not bother, all I say is target our man and romance him with delusions of sun, surf and cash.

I don't think anyone has said to not bother, more pointing out that what you're proposing is easier said than done and is more complicated than just waving a cheque book about

OK. Do you think it would be a "simple fix" to poach O'Meara or Swallow? How do you think we would go about that?

O'Meara is contracted until the end of 2016. He'll be 22 at that point. Swallow is signed until the end of 2017, when he'll be 24 turning 25. Are you suggesting we get them before they come out of contract? Either way, what do you think a trade would need to look like for us to get one of these guys?

Or is your "simple fix" only simple up until the point where you actually start to think about implementing it?

Are you just going to mention a bunch of highly rated players and carry on like it's some big mystery why we haven't persuaded their clubs to let them leave and come play for us?

Because it's so simple to get these guys, isn't it?

You listed them as "stars" that Sydney and Hawthorn had recruited. I'm not the one who brought them up.

McVeigh was a draftee. Kennedy and Mumford weren't getting games at Hawthorn and Geelong respectively. Shaw, Mattner and Richards were hardly star players either, they were spare-parts players. Haven't you criticised us for stocking up on other side's unwanted players in the past?

I think it's important to look at each player and each trade on an individual basis. The biggest contrast between Welligham and Hill vs Kennedy and Mumford is that the later two hadn't proven as much and had more potential because of it. Wellingham and Hill had been listed for 6 and 5 years respectively before joining West Coast, ample time at well performing clubs to prove their absolute worth.

Kennedy and Mumford had been in the system for two or three years prior to being traded and lacked the above two's exposure at the highest level.

2016:

Bennell - Mackenzie - Sheppard
Hurn - Brown - Ellis
LeCras - Selwood - Yeo
Masten - Kennedy - Wellingham
Darling - Lycett - Tunbridge

Naitanui - Shuey - Sheed
Gaff - Powell - Waterman
S: Newman

Herein lies the problem, everyone was waiting for Masten, now Shuey and Scooter. Reality is a hard place to visit and we screwed the pooch on all 3 of those.

We didn't screw the pooch on Shuey. He is still a talented midfielder - he just probably won't be an elite one. Did Collingwood screw the pooch on Sidebottom?

Selwood is one of the better defensive midfielders in the game, what are you talking about? I think you'd find there would be a lot of clubs interested in his services if he offered him up.

Masten falls short of what you would want from a pick 3 - but looking at who else went in that range, it wasn't a total bust.

A friend of mine recently suggested we play a different set up.

Use Natanui as a ruck rover not just a ruck. Play him in the centre with Lycett or Cox. He reckons he has such burst of speed he would be hard to stop.
Also the option of playing Darling in there as well.

So the ruck division and centre could be:

Cox/Lycett, Wellingham (tagger), Natanui, Darling

Rotate with: Selwood, Lecras, Yeo, Sheed

Thoughts?

It's a place you've never visited Ian, you seem to be in some kind of warm and fuzzy reality.
This doesn't make any sense.

I just find it curious that you're singing a little song about 'visiting reality' when you've previously suggested it would be a 'simple fix' to poach one of the Gold Coast's highly rated young midfielders. Is that realistic?

While Naitanui is elite for his work at clearances it's only elite as a ruckmen. It's such a weapon because what his counterparts are capable off is easier to play off and he doesn't have to be as accountable were he playing against a midfielder.

It could work occasionally and it was on the odd occasion when Naitanui and Cox were fitter and healthier.

So when Sydney get a Premium Player with huge cash offers its not real ? to simply say it can't be done is like sticking your head into a pale of cement which I am not suggesting you try Ian because you'll probably screw that up as well :)

Rohan is not getting a game for Sydney. He has the pace and class we need and may be good value. this is the type of player we should be looking at not the pie in the sky hopes for a super star.

What a strange comment.

I assume you're talking about Sydney getting Franklin as a free agent. The question is whether that's a "simple fix". I'd suggest that's actually pretty complicated. Would you like us to offer someone a nine-year deal?

Besides, those GC midfielders would require a trade. How would it be "simple" to get any of those guys?
