Damaging GWS defender Zac Williams rebuffs long-term contract offer
Jay Clark, Herald Sun

It means Williams could be vulnerable to a poaching raid, with the brilliant playmaker to receive offers in excess of $750,000 a season to switch clubs.

GWS has already put a deal to the dazzling academy product, but he has decided to hold off.
It means the run and carry specialist will look to play out the first few months of the season before seriously reconsidering his future in the back half of the year.

Fair bit of talk on our forum about him last year.

Could definitely see us making a move for Williams. Will be a spot in both defence and midfield available soon with Rich, Zorko and Robinson all over 30. We have the trade capital as well.

Sorry, no cap room for you. You already spent money on Ah Chee. 17 teams are lining up for Williams.

GCS will try but I don't think william come, but no harm pushing his value up to near a Mil for other team. Players will definitely come if GCS improve on their percentage, especially those heavy loss from last season.

Reckon there is still room for Brodie in that team.

Lemmens, Weller, Ellis, Ainsworth, Anderson, even Fiorini are more outside players who will role through midfield.
Brodie in for Lemmens for me.

Yeah Fiorini was our first midfielder off the bench every game last year. Slow preseason i would expect him to start there again this year. Think for most people they have Weller or Ellis on HBF and the other on the wing. Ideally we would want both on the wing but people are struggling to find that extra senior mid-sized player to fill that gap (people suggesting Miller) i dont mind seeing Joyce/Murdoch/Lemmens in that role.

IF Lemmens has managed to curtail his manic attack then he can play defence. Gives away way too many free kicks being out of control.

I actually would like to see Weller play on the ball. He got now 5 seasons under his belt and looks ready and in great shape. Time to unleash him inside for significant periods. Great tackling, break away speed, kick, smart. He was very good there against GWS in the last game of the season.

He's one player that seriously needs to break out. He is due for a big one

Fox footys crack at our 22

I like it but I always forget someone in these things...
On paper I like the look of that team. Especially that forward line, Greenwood is definitely a rotation though, rotate with Swallow as both have shown they can go forward and kick a goal

Post Marsh Series Game 1 Team for Round 1 2020.

B: Jarrod Harbrow - Caleb Graham - Connor Budarick

HB: Jack Bowes - Sam Collins - Jack Lukosius

C: Noah Anderson - David Swallow - Brandon Ellis

HF: Alex Sexton - Ben King - Ben Ainsworth

F: Izak Rankine - Peter Wright - Darcy MacPherson

FOLL: Jarrod Witts - Hugh Greenwood - Lauchie Weller

I/C: Brayden Fiorini - Touk Miller - Will Brodie - Matt Rowell

If it was up to me I would drop Wright and just put Sexton at FF, but Witts will need a chop out at some point and can't see us changing the structure too much (if Witts isn't fit for Rd1 Smith plays until Witts is fit).

This is extremely hard. Hanley doesn't make it, Budarick takes his spot after 2 impressive performances and looked calm with the ball in hand. Think Lemmens would come in over Wright if we changed to a small forward line.

Thompson comes in as soon as he is fit over Graham. I don't think Miles makes it back in with Brodie/Miller taking his spot. Powell and Ballard possibly squeeze in but then who do you take out?

It means we have some serious talent in the 2nds this year with Flanders still a bit sore as well will probably start down there this year.

Also looks like we start with 4 first gamers, while not ideal the likes of Rowell and Anderson demand that they be picked.

I think you got it right.

It will be interesting to see if Harbrow, Fiorini, Hanley play against Crows.

Lemmens was one of the best yesterday. He is important for our pressure. I would be happy to play him instead of Fiorini at the moment.

Or debut only Rankine and Rowell and play Fiorini instead of Anderson (not going to happen).

Budarick call will be interesting. He could end up playing on Gray. Or do you go with Joyce or Hanley - if fit and in form which is big if?

That's looking pretty good for Rd1. If we went with that team, then this is my team for NEAFL Rd1.......

Not sure on Injuries but I have these blokes missing....Thompson Ballard Holman Miles Powell Riordan

FB. Dawson Burgess Joyce

HB. Hanley Hombsch McLennan

C. Murdoch GHS Sharp

HF. Lemmens Corbett Farrar

F. Rosas Day Heron

FOLL: Smith Fletcher Flanders

I/C: C.Ellis Schoenfeld Murtagh Towey Conroy.

I would expect Hombsh to replace Graham is he recovers in time.

Is Bowes a genuine defender right now? He’s showed signs there before so I don’t mind it I guess, he’s a good leader too and communication down back is super important?

Just thought long term he was a mid.

I think Burgess will play ahead of Graham
If Burgo lines up against the Crows mark him down for Rd 1
Graham definitely plays bigger.

Depends on ports forwards set up. But I think the below would be reasonable off the top of my head.

Dixon (collins), Marshall (Burgess), georgiades (lukosius), rozee (Bowes), gray (harbrow), butters/farrell (budarick)

What Dewy is doing with Bowes as a defender reminds me what Sydney and Longmire have done with Callum Mills. Mills was a highly rated mid and probably the best mid in his draft year yet the swans really refuse to give him a fair crack there for extended periods. I really hope Bowes gets a proper run at it as a full time mid and doesn’t end up a full time HB flanker like Mills.

Good comparison
