Int: Bowes - Rowell - Anderson - Brodie

Currently updated after the first round of the draft.

Still think the back line looks pretty weak but our midfield is already bolstered, and I really like our forward line if we can get it in cleanly.

That last bench that Brodie is in is super flexible, could be Powell, could be Day, could be Lemmens. Easily 5-6 people who could slot in there.

Most of these teams are fairly similar, but here's my guess. I see this as the best 22 over the course of the season.
B: Ballard Thompson Harbrow
HB: Lukosius Collins Hanley
C: Weller Swallow B Ellis
HF: Ainsworth Wright Anderson
F: Rankine King Sexton
RUCK Witts Bowes Rowell
INTER: Fiorini Miller Greenwood Corbett

My Round 1 team

FB: Harbrow - Thompson - Ballard
HB: Lukosius - Collins - Weller
C: Powell - Swallow - Ellis
HF: Ainsworth - Wright - Rankine
FF: Sexton - King - Macpherson

R: Witts - Greenwood - Fiorini

Int: Bowes - Brodie - Rowell - Anderson

Could easily have Miller, Holman, Lemmens, Day, Flanders, Hanley in that team.

TBH I don’t really see Hanley getting a game.

I can’t remember a game ever thinking.
Thank goodness for Hanley..

mid he wasn’t 30odd no way he’d get a game

I can see the kids lining up for his spot already

I've been trying not to put Hanley in.
Leaves us a without many options for the back flank though. I think my team above is not quite balanced, would be better with Hanley in it, even though I want to put Brodie + Anderson in ahead of him.

He was one of the last picked in my team. Every year some players improve & some regress. Hanley's body & his form could slip in 2020. I left him in, because I thought he performed ok in 2019 in the face of an onslaught of opposition inside 50's. Often he got into trouble because he simply had no realistic options to deliver the ball to. I am banking on the theory our team will be better in 2020, so our defenders won't be under as much pressure & this should assist Hanley. If he does slip, Powell is most likely to take his place in the 22. Corbett & Wright are also only just in my 22. They both need to improve on their 2019 performances, but I'm expecting them to do that. Unless they do, they'll be out. Guys like MacPherson, Day, Holman & Lemmens were all considered for their spots & some of the young blokes will also be in the mix.

How are Thompson and Collins coming along from their injuries, does anyone know? Will they be cherry ripe for round one?
We’ll need them against Port’s talls.

Very similar views from fans. Some different positiions played but mostly only differ on Powell and Hanley, Day vs Wright and will Anderson start round 1.

Personally, I can't see Miles in the best 22 round 1.

Miles is an interesting one. He’s such a workhorse and has that experience that our more talented younger brigade currently lack. What goes against him is his lack of versatility. He’s an inside mid but doesn’t appear to have a lot of other strings to his bow. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was there round one either. It’s the competition for his spot from the Likes of Rowell and DMac who are a bit more versatile that might see him struggle to retain it later on. More pressure for spots is great for us.

I have Brodie in B22 but if I'm Dew and I'm meeting with Brodie at the start of the pre-season I'm pointing to these teams and asking Brodie do you think you've done enough to be in ahead of Miller, Murdoch, Miles?

If you are only as good as your last game, then yes, as he was sensational in that Blues game, but based on body of work then no. It's up to him to have a massive off-season to make what he did in his last game the normal standard.

Yeah Brodie is the big bodied beast we need to compete with the Cripps etc. Was thinking about who’s our most important player going forward and I think he’s actually in the conversation.

While I don't think he is our most important player (I'd have Bowes and all the 6 draftees from the last 2 years ahead of him), he's the proto-typical midfielder who should be primed to break out this year and make a difference to the make up of our team.

Pretty close to my first draft but I've gone for players in the positions they would seem better fitted for rather than filling holes - so here goes
BEST 22

AFL:
FB: Ballard Thompson Harbrow
HB: Hanley Collins Ellis
C: Weller Brodie Fiorini
HF: Sexton Day Lukosius
FF: Rankine King Ainsworth
R: Witts Swallow Greenwood
IN: Miles Rowell Anderson Bowes

Of these I think Sexton and Hanley will be the ones expected to be consistent over the season and not just flash in and flash out of games.

Fighting for a spot - Sharp, Flanders, McPherson, Miller, Corbett, Wright, Lemmens, Holman, Joyce, Hombsch and more.
On paper, looks to be competitive so fingers crossed.

Listening to Luko, he plays HB next year. B Ellis will run all day on the wing. Fiorini is not winger for me.
