Based on what I just saw...

FB - Grimes Astbury Short
HB - Markov Rance Houli
C - McIntosh Cotchin Grigg
HF - Martin Griffiths Edwards
F - Rioli Riewoldt Vlastuin
R - Nankervis Prestia Caddy
SUB - CEllis, Butler, Lloyd, Miles
EMG - Conca, Castagna, BEllis, Batch

I doubt we will drop BEllis but he had a shocker.

This is probably where the team is at

B: Grimes, Astbury
HB: Rance, Houli
C: Cotchin
HF: S.Edwards, Griffiths
F: Rioli, Riewoldt
R: Nankervis, Martin, Prestia
Int: Grigg, Caddy, Vlastuin

The 13 above that played tonight looked a class above the others. Rance and Houli are obvious locks.

Only one game but for Round 1, I'd like to see something like this;

B: Short - Astbury - Conca
HB: Houli - Rance - Grimes
C: Grigg - Cotchin - BEllis
HF: Edwards - Griff - Lloyd
F: Rioli - Jack - Dusty

1R: Nankervis - Prestia - Caddy

Int: Miles - Vlastuin - Butler - McIntosh

I can handle Knac there, but those other names no way.
BEllis is still in DH mode where he's still wanting to look back or move sideways . Awful to watch and the more he touched it the more we got burnt. Still best 22, but needs the CR2032 battery removed and the jumpers put into the 1-2 position to be reset back to his default settings. You can see he's been over coached as he's lost his natural instincts to attack and push forward.

These players should never be in the team, and this was backed up again on Friday; Batchelor, Hunt, Lennon, Grigg and B Ellis (the latter two get it but are slow and usually take the worst option). Jury out but probably no good Concha. C Ellis also, but when he gets it he is smooth unlike others. Griffith is gifted games but he's still usually vacant.
We have picked up 3 great players and Rioli is soon to be elite. I reckon Martin and Cotchin are good but Prestia will be better and Caddy is a v good pick up. bank Nank.

You missed the most important part..... he's the biggest squib in the afl

What's with all the Grigg hate?
I don't get it.
Grigg is not a bad footballer and is reliable in my opinion.

Yep.

But the haters are all or nothing types.

Fact is, the expectations on him have been higher than his results, but that doesn't make him a bad player....For a few years he's been our 7th-11th best player (judgement call which), when on talent in a top team he'd be more 12th-16th. Still deserves a spot, and the 'problem' is more the lack of quality around him, but the haters lack the wit to see it.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, at least for you mate but Grigg isn't going anywhere, he's still comfortably in our Best 22. He may be on his last season while we wait for one of the kids to mature but right now he's best 22.

FB - Grimes Astbury Short
HB - Markov Rance Houli
HHB: McIntosh
C - Cotchin Vlaustin, Grigg
HF - Martin Griffiths Edwards
F - Rioli Riewoldt
R - Hampson, Prestia Caddy

Int - Nankervis, Miles, Butler, Lloyd,
EMG - Conca, Castagna, BEllis, Batch

I found this a real challenge and I love that! Not sure if I prefer Conca over Short but went for youth. Also not certain on Castagna or Butler either. Batch is too slow and looked ordinary last night. If Griff continues to struggle I'd go with a smaller forwardline or plonk Nank there to at least create a contest and then rotate him with Hampson, who imho is still the better ruck around stoppages (although Nank's better around the ground).

I actually worry that BEllis will struggle with a highly contested gameplan. He needs space to run and under pressure struggles. I would rather another player such as Conca and Castasgna in the team before I would include him atm. CEllis behind Markov, McIntosh, Short and Conca as it stands.

A little reactive but I'll name a 22 I like based on last night.

Still no Short for me, thanks.

Grimes, Astbury, McIntosh
Houli, Rance, Markov
Cotchin, Vlastuin, C. Ellis
Caddy, Griffiths, Edwards
Rioli, Riewoldt, Lloyd
Nankervis, Martin, Prestia
Grigg, Miles, Butler, Castagna

Absolute certainties (fitness permitting)

1. Rance
2. Cotchin
3. Martin
4. Riewoldt
5. Prestia
6. Caddy
7. Edwards
8. Rioli
9. Astbury
10. K mac
11. Grigg
12. Grimes
13. b Ellis
14.griffifths
15. Vlastuin
And after Friday night I'd say

16. Nankervis

The rest in my opinion are up for grabs.. but I'd put money on all those getting selected wether I agree with that is a different matter.

On that game I'd leave Conca & Castagna IN. & drop Markov or CEllis leave Short OUT
