Best 22 in 2016

Aidan Corr: 194cm; 91kg
Caleb Marchbank: 193cm; 90kg
Nick Haynes: 192cm; 90kg
Phil Davis: 194cm; 93kg

I don't disagree with your perspective on lack of size to play KPF ... but none of our backs (aside from the injured Tim Mohr 198cm 105kg) are really big.

Amazing that hogan has got to 101kg they say he is, some sites have him at 91.

But yes Hogan has a greater long distance aerobic ability to Buddy. Both go pretty well though.

Id say Melbourne will go with Dawes, Hogan, 1 of Pederson/Frost(maybe none) and Watts as their 3 tall forwards. 1 of Dawes, Frost and Pederson plays round 1 i think Dawes isnt quite fit yet though.

I think Marchbank to Hogan, Davis takes Frost/Pederson, Corr likely to watts but i dont have Corr best 22. So maybe Patful

I'm of similar thoughts on Melbourne ... but not expecting Dawes to be fit, so Hogan, Watts & Pederson or Frost IMO. But I'd go the other way on GWS: Davis to the #1 in Hogan, whoever is #2 KPD (whether Corr or Marchbank) to Watts, and #3 KPD (Marchbank or Patfull) to Pederson/Frost. In reality, they rotate direct opponents and zone off in defence anyway so it never stays as clear cut as we write it. Especially if Hogan goes mobile, they'll rotate.

I'm still not sure which way LC will jump. While I see flaws in Corr's game, and like Marchbank but see flaws there too & he's less experienced, Corr got 19 games last year as the #2 KPD with Davis, Haynes & Patfull in the side. So, I probably most expect that LC will stay relatively conventional and name Davis, Corr & Marchbank (essentially filling the Haynes role).

Have a bit of inside word so not sure if this is necessarily best 22 or likely 1st round with some players. Ive only heard about a few players mainly one that im not see in the side down back that i will place in. Have some word on a few other players aswell, id rather PM and let someone else spread the word. Nothing ground breaking just some stuff of interest that people might like.

Anyway my best 22 with this inside knowledge added on top.

Z.Williams - Patful- Marchbank

H.Shaw - P.Davis - Wilson

Whitfield - Ward - Scully

D.Smith - Cameron - S.Johnson

Palmer - Patton - R.Lobb/Tomlinson

Mumford - Griffen - D.Shiel

Bench: Coniglio, T.Greene, J.Kelly, Steele

Just not sold on that halfback role. Either 2 of Williams and Wilson. Or maybe a Corr or Buntine aswell.

edit: Updated

I think Corr instead of Patfull. I think Patton misses for Tomlinson. I would have Kenners for Steele.

Williams Davis Marchbank or Patfull or Buntine
Shaw Corr Wilson
Whitfield Ward Kelly
SJ Tomlinson Smith or WHE
Palmer Cameron Lobb

Mumford Griffen Shiel

Cogs Greene Scully Kenners (7th back)

The only player missing is from our best 22 is Haynes who would play as the third tall defender.
Steele unlucky, but we should only play 8 mids.

Mate... How can Davis cover Franklin (possibly the most mobile forward in the game) but not hogan? And how would a second year player have more of a tank than a seasoned player?

Hogan only hurts us if we have to take him one on one. So a slow forward entry so other blokes can be third man up (as you said) is the way to go

It will be won in the midfield

Franklin while mobile is still a burst player.

Hogan by all accounts has a great tank on him.Buddy never rates in time trials.

Marchbank has beaten a number of our mids in time trials. While not saying hes more suitable than Davis to take on Hogan he has a great tank and he has had only one proper pre season..This is why we trialled Davis,Corr.,Marchbank and even Buntine on Buddy for a contest.

Corr is a perfect fit for Watts though.Hopefully he shows it

Don't forget Tommo the Tank, special assignment specialist.

Hard to argue except for kenners. There is basically no way I see him making the side. If we play an extra back (pure defender) on the bench (which I dont think we will) it would give us 4 small defenders who pretty much only play small defender. Williams and Wilson are ahead of him at the moment and Shaw is a certainty.

Shaw can play tall. I want to see an attacking back line similar to the bulldogs. That's why Kenners should play. We can cover the ttals.

If we want to be winning games Shaw won't be playing tall. 184 is a small defender. Having three pure small defenders is 4 would be overkill.

You are right that an attacking backline is the way to go though I see it being midfielders rotating back there. Griffen, ward, Whitfield

I see your logic but I don't like your conclusion. I like Kenners, ... but then I'm more of a footy heart than a footy head, and I have my favourites...

Griffen played a defensive role quite a bit last year, could be used down there again - Ward, maybe in a pinch, but why on earth would you play Whitfield in defence? What a waste - short changes everyone.

Kenners has been one of my favourites from the start cause he gave such good service in the early years but some of the others have passed him by at this point in time.

My bad I didn't realise how silly the Hawks were when they played hodge and Mitch across halfback to setup all their attacking play from defence. Fantastic run and disposal off both sides by Whitfield would be very damaging from the back half.

You do know that he has rotated through he back line in previous years right?
