I will start it off.

B: Litherland Heatherley Stratton
HB: Birchall Frawley Duryea
C: Hill Shiels Smith
HF: Poupolo Gunston Rioli
F: Breust Roughead Ceglar
Foll: McEvoy W.Langford Lewis
Int: Anderson Whitecross Suckling Hartung

I didn't think it would be this hard!! Try, I left out multiple players such as

Woodward
O'Brien
Simpkin
O'Rourke
Sicily
Willsmore
Webster
Brand
Simpkin
Spangher

Didn't include any players drafted this year either

No Hodge, Mitchell or Burgoyne, Lake, Gibson etc.

Great looking team! Heatherley at full back raises a question mark... No love for shoenmakers? :p

Overall the team seems pretty spot on + a couple of new draftees + free agent..etc

Realistically, when do we think Hodge (2016), Mitchell (2017), Burgoyne (2016), Lake (2015) & Gibbo (2017) will all retire? Injuries permitting I've taken a stab at it!

Forgot about Schoenmakers but I can't see him making it as a Forward because of Gunston, Roughead, Bruest, O'Brien, Sicily, Willsmore, Tatapu.
Defence is is unlikely with Stratton, Spangher, Frawley, Litherland, Brand.
If he gets a spot anywhere, I think it will be defence. I think we might trade him because he could be useful to another team.

You are putting Tatapu ahead of Shoenmakers?

Not to make it sound like I'm having a go at you because I'm not, you're clearly just trying to illustrate how good a team we will still have after the vets retire. But to try and actually pick our best 22 in 2018 is a waste of time.

To do this same exercise back in December 2010 for 2014 would have you possibly over look brand new draftees like Smith, Litherland, Puopolo and rookie pick Langford. Just like how no one has included any of the most recent draftees.

You'd most certainly have had Buddy in your side. No one could see him anywhere else. I bet most would have thought Sewell would still be a key component of our side in 2014 and 2015.

You wouldn't have even known we'd have Hill, Breust, Gunston or Lake with us or the players they'd be. Then there's Hartung, Anderson and Woodward all who could've been best 22 in 2014 if not for various injury concerns.

That's like half the entire best 22 at minimum that you couldn't possibly have picked 4 years ago.

You're spot on, but it is kinda fun, considering how good our Team may still be without the Superstars.

I agree it is reassuring to see such a strong side sans vets. But rather than refer to it as a possible best 22 in 2018 which no one will get even close to accurate perhaps it would be better to consider it a hypothetical best 22 for 2015 excluding players over 30. Essentially that's what these teams look like. Nit picky, I know lol.

Valid, but dude it's Christmas - let us play ;):D

Again though, you're right. We can't know who we'll draft between then & now; how well Dangerfield will be for us when we pick him up via FA; who will make it after being a mid/long-term Rookie (like Suckers, Breust or Langers).

= 5-peat!

See, fun, isn't it?!;)
In saying that, not a lot of people are listing Suckers - is he not in the mix or we trading him? (Or losing for free via FA?)

I'VE NEVER FELT MORE ALIVE!!!!! :D

Lol but seriously, I did hesitate on Suckling. I don't know if he has much more improvement left in him (he could). His kicking is a great weapon for us at the best of times but sometimes he can really make a mess of it by being too cute with it, rarely kicks it on his right which makes him predictable and often needs a full second longer than most players to perform his action which can see a forced error or holding the ball in high pressure games. If he doesn't leave in FA next year (I don't expect he will unless he loses his spot) then I can see him being part of our best 22 for a few years. He'll be turning 30 in 2018 however so it seems probable that he'll have well and truly begun his decline by then. With Hill and Hartung in their primes on the wings it then sees wise, old Isaac Smith moved to the HBF who my gut reckons will age a bit better.

I firm up seeing these sides with Dangerfield in them. Absolute gun, if we somehow landed him we would be a top 4 side for many years to come I reckon.

I still think it's Adelaide or Geelong but we can dream!

i wouldn't be surprised to see Mitchell still playing 2018. He keeps getting better, and expect his career to peak with the Brownlow in 2017

I think I might of uncovered a hidden weakness in our squad I previously never considered.

Once burgers, hodge and gibson slow up were going to have an unhealthy reliance on our HBF's ie. Suckling, Birtchall.

OfC litherland would fix that if he developeds into a nice 2nd 3rd tall rebounding player like an Enright.

Duryea, Frawley, Stratton
SUCKLING, ______, BIRCHALL.

VS

HODGE, LAKE, GIBSON
BIRCHALL, Frawley, SUCKLING.

*BOLD reliable to elite attacking defenders.

We do have salary cap space left and our biggest weapon that might convince him is success. I think we have a chance but we won't throw a rediculous offer at him.
