This would be my hope, although I am fully aware it's unlikely they would make some of these calls.

B: Grimes Garthwaite Vlastuin
HB: Rance Astbury Short
C: Menadue Cotchin Prestia
HF: Edwards Riewoldt Caddy
FF: Rioli Lynch Bolton
R: Nankervis Martin Lambert
INT: Markov Higgins Graham Butler

B: Nick Vlastiun, David Astbury, Dylan Grimes

HB: Jayden Short, Alex Rance, Bachar Houli

C: Kamdyn McIntosh, Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards

HF: Daniel Rioli, Jack Riewoldt, Kane Lambert

F: Daniel Butler, Tom Lynch, Josh Caddy

FOL: Toby Nankervis, Dustin Martin, Dion Prestia

I/C: Jack Higgins, Nathan Broad, Brandon Ellis, Jack Graham

Could swap a few positions and still be happy e.g. Castagna, Broad, Garthwaite, Grigg of which i believe all are capable. Just got so much competition for spots, not to mention if we somehow hit a target at draft time and pick a ready made kid then even more competition.

Biggest concern by far for me is Grigg has to be squeezed in to back up for Nank, unless of course Lynch happy to pinch hit.
Second biggest concern is lack of inside mid coverage for Prestia/Martin. Lambert, Edwards, Caddy can all play mid i guess so push them in and then bring in a small running forward like Castagna and still looks strong.

FB: Short Rance Grimes

HB: Vlastuin Astbury Houli

C: Lambert Martin Ellis

HF: Butler Riewoldt Rioli

FF: Castagna Lynch Caddy

FOL: Nankervis Cotchin Prestia

BEN: McIntosh Edwards Higgins Graham

EME: Broad Grigg Balta Bolton

That's a seriously good team. As the year progresses, I'd like to see Bolton put pressure on Butler/Castagna's spot, Ellis returning to AA form and refusing to let Grigg crack into side, Broad/Garthwaite pressuring Houli, Balta/CCJ improving their endurance and showing they can play wing/ruck/fwd/back; true swingmen (T. McDonald mk2?)...

Would also like more midfield rotations, of the likes of: Martin, Cotchin, Prestia, Lambert, Rioli, Caddy, McIntosh, Edwards, Higgins, Graham.... but LEAVE Vlas in the backline.

Jack and The Beanstalk. It's gonna be interesting how we make this work but if he stays fit it's gonna be fun!

Players pushing for selection: Garthwaite, Ellis, Castagna, Markov, Menadue, Townsend, Bolton

Still plenty of depth and I’d rather see these guys in over the players we lost as I think they have more upside. Would of liked to have kept Stengle though but can’t keep them all.

Based on performance or status within the club.. Those in capitals need to be replaced or need to improve.

FB/ Vlastuin - Astbury - Grimes
HB/ HOULI - Rance - BROAD

C/ GRIGG - Martin - Edwards
R/ Nankervis - Cotchin - Prestia

HF/ Butler - Riewoldt - Rioli
FF/ CASTAGNA - Lynch - CADDY.

Lambert - HIGGINS - GRAHAM - MCINTOSH.

What id like to see hoping some can take the step up

FB/ Vlastuin - Astbury - Grimes. speak for themselves
HB/ Rance - Balta - Markov. Rance plays the floater or third tall role that he does so well. Hoping Markov can become an accountable hb. Balta is the future.

C/ Lambert - CADDY - Edwards. Put Caddy in the guts we need him to become a permanent tough inside mid.
R/ Nankervis - Martin - Cotchin

HF/ Rioli - Riewoldt - Butler
FF/ Bolton - Lynch - CC-J/Moore/Chol. We need to help Nankervis and it has to be either Chol or CC-J. Would play moore in Caddys role but he needs to take another big step up.Playing Moore doesnt help us with Nankervis.

INT/ Higgins - Graham - McIntosh or Menadue. Neither of the last two are anywhere near Grigg when it comes to out put.
Im hoping we have a few mature mids in our sight and our first pick is a mid who may be able to play straight away. If this does not happen we are in a world of pain if injuries hit us especially long term injuries to our better players.

From the Herald-Sun:

RICHMOND
B Dylan Grimes Alex Rance Nathan Broad

HB Nick Vlastuin David Astbury Bachar Houli

C Kane Lambert Dion Prestia Kamdyn McIntosh

HF Shane Edwards Tom Lynch Daniel Rioli

F Dan Butler Jack Riewoldt Josh Caddy

Foll Toby Nankervis Dustin Martin Trent Cotchin

I/C Shaun Grigg Jack Higgins Jayden Short Jason Castagna

Next in line: Brandon Ellis, Jack Graham, Jacob Townsend, Oleg Markov, Connor Menadue, Ryan Garthwaite

AL PATON SAYS: Only an injury setback can stop Tom Lynch from lining up at centre half-forward in Round 1. The Tigers’ mini exodus has seemingly had little impact on the best 22 with premiership stars Brandon Ellis, Jack Graham and Jacob Townsend being squeezed out of our predicted line-up. Jayden Short cemented his place in the senior team this year. Will Dimma stick with the mosquito fleet underneath Lynch and Jack Riewoldt?

Glad you didn't put all your Eggs in the one basket.:)

Our first 22 is always going to be strong with our backline the best in the comp
And Our forward line close With lynch now.

I always like looking at the vfl to see where we are at
The development in that team is what will make or break us as a contender over the next 3 years
Team has to always evolve. Keep the same principles and theories but expand on them

I think what is often missed is that Best 22 doesn't just mean the best 22 players, but the best structured 22 to suit our gameplan for 2019

So with that in mind, here is my 'Best 22' line up for 2019

B: Grimes - Astbury - Broad

HB: Vlastuin - Rance - Short

C: Rioli - Cotchin - Lambert

HF: Higgins - Lynch - Butler

F: Bolton - Riewoldt - Caddy

R: Nankervis - Prestia - Martin

I/C: (Houli or Grigg) - Moore - Edwards - Castagna

The biggest question mark in that line up is Moore. But I am going out to make sure Nank gets a spell, and that won't be Lynch. I have said in other threads, Moore as a third tall can work, Moore as a stand alone second tall (as we saw this year) he's not ready. He's athltic enough to still apply forward pressure when up there as the third tall without the pressure of being Jacks sidekick. I would also happy see Balta play this role at some stage through the year as well.

I don't think Grigg and Houli will play in the same team too often if we have everyone available.

I think we really missed Butler, and I think the club think so too which is why we tried to get him back before the finals, but it didn't work.

Broad needs to continue to improve to keep Garthwaite out IMO

Any fellow tiger with Brandon Ellis in our best 22 if everyone is fit and able to be picked, has rocks in their head. Can’t wait to trade him spring 2019, will not get a new contract with us.

Actually, im coming around to the idea of Moore (or Balta) being in our best 22. Theres no doubt we cant keep running with Grigg as our back up ruck, especially with the new rules.

I reckon either of them can actually play as a tall wing for parts of games and also as the secondary ruck. Both excellent marks which could help with our outlet kicks from D50.

Its time to evolve from the "smalls" line up and bring guys in who have size to go along with their athleticism (even if that means sacrificing a bit of speed).

My best 22 for round 1:

B: Grimes, Astbury, Vlastuin
HB: Short, Rance, Houli
C: McIntosh, Prestia, Lambert
HF: Moore, Riewoldt, Rioli
F: Castagna, Lynch, Butler
R: Nankervis, Martin, Cotchin
Int: Caddy, Edwards, Graham, Higgins

Depth: Grigg, Broad, Bolton, B Ellis, Markov, Balta, Menadue, Baker, Townsend, Naish

Id love Bolton to replace Castagna fairly early on, and Broad can play when we are facing the taller forward lines.
