No we don't. Marshall takes his spot... which on form and structure he should have taken anyway.
This is true.
Marshall has played more def than Battle though so could easily do the desperation swing Battle fwd.
Some stability in gameplan.

McKenzie & Acres look to be the selection unknowns for round 1. Both have had their niggles & either been on the injury list or listed under ‘test’. Both lack practice/JLT matches under their belt. I really thought last nights game was a good opportunity to get some minutes into them, unsure why they didn’t play, I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation. It’ll be interesting to see if they are picked next week.
Dan seems to have been missing for a while, so it's a bit of a surprise that he didn't play last night.

Blake on the other hand played a half in the intra and reportedly some of the VFL practice match last week against WB, so he's really only missed a week (JLT1), and now gets to get two more weeks of full training in, so they're probably going to be comfortable playing him in R1. Especially as it's only against GC and particularly if Stuv doesn't get up.

Would be shocked if Dan didn't play next week.

If Lonie deserves a game based on his finish to last year, then Dan deserves at least 10.

Also, with Jake, Nate and Robbo out, I doubt we'll bring in even more inexperienced guys.

Not having match play to help his selection doesn't help Danny Mac.

Roberton in the intra club and JLT games looked to be back to his all Australian squad form. Will be a huge loss, but his livelihood needs to come first and I hope he can work out it all out and return next year.

As for who takes his spot in the 22, it could easily be McKenzie if they want a bit more mobility. Austin probably plays similarly, albeit he’s probably not as effective at being defensive on more agile players. I reckon Wilkie could give the Roberton role a real shake, he’ll be a composed head and can intercept, just needs some AFL experience.
Marsh is another, although he’s probably more vying for a key position post. And he’ll need time to adjust.

Will be interesting to see how the match selection goes. If Brown, Carlisle, Roberton and Geary are all out in round 1, it will be interesting to see who steps up and leads the backline. Webster will lead by example, but we’ll need someone marshalling the structures, and I fear Savage is not that bloke, and neither will be the younger/less experienced defenders.

Team for R1:

B: Geary Joyce D-Mac
HB: Savage Battle Webster
C: Newnes Steele Billings
HF: Kent Bruce Long
F: Membrey Marshall Gresham
R: Pierce Ross Stuv
I (From): Dunstan Clark Acres Parker Lonie Sincs Hind Marsh

Good sign for our depth that even without about 6 who would be playing, if fit, available and in form, I'm still struggling big-time to get the bench down to 4.
Approved!

Bench: Sincs, Clark, Parker, Hind.

See, for all the talk about Dunstan deserving to be in the 22, here is a great example of him just not being able to be fitted in. That doesn't mean he's crap, any more than the fact VDS couldn't fit the GOAT in means Acres is crap. It just means there's other very reasonable midfielders ahead of them: in this case, Stuv, Billings, Newnes, Steele, Ross, Clark, Sinclair. For all those outraged at such-and-such a poster leaving out Acres, or Lucky, or Hunter, or Sinclair - the fact is, there are two spots for those four, so two will have to unluckily miss. And let's remember, that's a GOOD thing - depth is GOOD. Heck, and that's even before we try to fit Hanners in.

Guys like Sincs, Lonie, Acres have to step it up a gear this year IMO.

Been in the system a while and I reckon we have players with more to offer breathing down their necks.

As you say, that's a good thing. And it's nothing personal.

If for example, Clark establishes himself in the guts, then Dunstan is done.

Same with Acres. He has a serious like for like competition with Marsh.

Is Austin out of the equation?

The team has taken a beating with injury since last time I picked a side so I’ll try it again .

Hind , Joyce, Rowe
Savage , Battle , Webster
Billings , Dunstan , Clark
Steven , Marshall , Membrey
Parker , Bruce , Gresham

Pierce , Steele , Ross

Newnes , Marsh , Kent , Lonie

If fit then Paddy and Gears will play instead of Marshall and Rowe , maybe lol .
I’m hoping Steven will be right to go round one .

Austin would play but I don’t know how fit he is yet .

Marsh or Rowe ? I have no idea what they are like . Would Young , Rice or Wilkie be a better choice I have no clue lol .
Don’t Panic !!

I’m really on fire with my picks for player advocates . My first season I picked Hugh Goddard who didn’t play a game that season due to injury , second season I picked Paddy who only played somewhere between 7 to 10 games I think . This season I jumped on board with Hanna’s and he’s off to a flying start with a hamstring issue . Who do we not want to play anymore so I can pick them next year .

Don’t Panic !!

Rowe was AFL fit round 23 last year.
Marsh has never played AFL.
I get that but also..
Marsh desperate to reignite AFL career doing extra work.
Rowe finished in Aug 2018 and knowing he was going to play local footy. How much fitness can you lose in 7 months. How did Joey fare?

Hey guys
What role will newnes play this year?

It seemed he played deep forward last year and really struggled. He was one of your better players the previous 2 years in 16/17 just wondering what happened? Was it an injury or lack of targets forward

Think he’s very underrated

Was clearly carrying an injury in 2018 and fans became quite annoyed that he kept getting selected.

And although it's only 2 JLT games, already we are seeing a totally different player. Has been great and indeed one of our best.

Hopefully he's back in town [emoji1303]

How many key talls will we need against GC?

They seemed to be only playing with Wright and Lukosius in the JLT do do we just go with Joyce and Battle, or do we play Austin and let Battle play the third tall, intercept role?

And Sam Day too I think. At this stage and given his body shape, Lukosius will be more like a tall flanker. Battle or even a Webster or DMac might be ok despite the Cm differential and can at least move with him.

Marsh has never played AFL.

Marsh played for the Pies and if you read their board a lot of them were sorry to lose him when he went back home end of 2016. He had some mental health issues and a trade with the WA teams fell through so he retired to go back home instead.

He’s only 23 and if you look at some of his highlights floating around ( granted only 15 games worth) he is very quick and can definitely add something to our team. Has played back in the AFL and midfield in the league he played with in WA. Was an article about him recently somewhere and it was interesting reading.

Let’s hope he turns out to be a star we get basically for free off the back of our player losses because he’s ready to grasp his second chance with both hands.

Really?
Hes a very fit player. can run all day. His passing is herrondous just bombs it BUT weirdly can kick a goal. He is defo looking better this year, in fact looks like a different person I couldnt even recognise him, looked cms shorter... lost weight? possibly.
Im not a major fan but hoping he can become a B+ player.

Sam Rowe is no good. Give Austin a crack to show he's improved his defensive side. He is a long term option and the club outlayed enough for him.

Er... Rowe's played 99 AFL games. Harsh!
How many AFL games have you played?
