No way Robbo ever lines up as an emergency nex year imo. Almost our best player when fit. Either he's good to go or he's resting.

The only reason i have left him out is cos he has barely played any footy for 18 months
And we still don't know how he will handle the load!

Agree wholeheartedly he is easily in our best 22 all things going well!
And i really hope they do and he can make a magnificent comeback
In an unforgiving sport!
That in itself would be an amazing story after everything he has been through!

Reposting as nothing has changed imo reckon our round 1 side will look like this because we will showcase our recent trades in a new look side under rats.
Howard, Jones, Hill, Hannebery, Ryder, Butler, Kent are 7 new look faces, not including Wilkie, Battle, Clark and Roma making themselves best 22, plus Geary, Webster, Carlisle and to a lesser extent gresh all back to full fitness, that creates a new look side of 15 players!!

Round 1:
Geary - Howard - Wilkie
Webster - Carlisle - Jones
Hill - Ross - Hannebery
Ryder - Dunstan - Steele
Billings - Battle - Gresham
Membrey - Marshall - Butler
Kent - Sinclair - Clark - Savage

EMG:
Coffield
Lonie
Brown

if that team is making the assumption that theyre all at their best youd have to find a place for PARKER....at his best cant leave him out...i'd want him there b4 KENT and others...also I'd want Roberton ON deck....no use wondering when it comes to his quality..."easing him into it" as you say, just bad for confidence.....if your'e going into battle you don't leave your best proven warriors in the twos...first game everyone should be ready....year off pre-season i'd reckon he's chaffing at the bit.-

Backs: Paton, Howard, Geary.

H/backs: Webster, Carlisle, Robbo.

Centre: Hill, Ross, Billings

H/forwards: Membrey, Battle, Hannerbery

Forwards: Gresh, Marshall, Butler

Followers: Ryder, Steele, Clark

Bench: Coffield, Long, Jones, Dunstan.

Want Parker & Wilkie to make it in as the year goes on, but as far as rd.1 goes...I think this'll be close. Allows players to rotate into midfield and forward as well as back. Reasonably fast too, particularly off the bench...except for Spook.

Not a bad guess. I think our half forwards are going to need to get on the scoreboard and get more score involvement on a more consistent basis next season so it will be interesting to see out of Parker, Long, Kent and Butler who can hold down a senior spot.

Round 1 - c'mon surely Max King gets a run.

So King ahead of Battle, I reckon Brown will start the season at FB, Parker over Long, Savage over Paton.

Savage never gets much respect on here. He will probably be played further up the ground if what Ratts said is true. He was used poorly under Richo with all his flair taken out of his game and any attacking quality taken away.

I rate Savage I just think that Roberton, Webster and Clark offer more in similar roles assuming we have a full list to pick from

Hey there Pebbles, yeah I get you...I'm as eager as most to see King line up. My theory on it is that Battle has runs on the board, is athletic as f*CK, a rising star nominee, and can play both forward and back with good effect. With rtespect to Winx I reckon they'll let him get some practice in Sandy. It's been awhile since he played, he's going to need some match fitness. Dude is a long term investment that will appreciate with time. That said, I'm going for a Rd.5 debut.

Its round 1 , so unless someone unexpected really shows something during the pre-season i think they will select reasonably conservatively.

FB: Webster Howard Geary : Brown, Paton,
HB: Wilkie Carlisle Roberton : Coffield , Austin, Marsh
C: Hill Ross Billings : Hind
Marshall , Butler Membrey : King, Parker , Lonie , Long
Kent , Battle, Gresham

R: Dunstan , Ryder ,Steele

B: Savage ,Jones, Clark , Hannebery : Sinclair , Hind, Bytel , Phillips, Langlands

Developing in the seconds.
Clavarino. Joyce, Byrnes, Connolly, Alabakis , Mayo , Bell.
Pure Depth: McKenzie, Abbot

Brown: is in great form, and not really slowing down despite his age, i have no problems if he needs to come in for an injured or out of form Howard.
Paton: showed good composure when he played. I think Geary still has more impact on a game. Paton may even be a midfield option long term.
Coffield: Was serviceable last season, and at his age very likely to improve a lot. Probably Wilkie is the weakest link, but Roberton has been out of the game a while too. ( If Wilkie is the weakest link , its not so weak ).
Austin/Marsh Opportunities will come if we need a second or third tall to come in.
Hind was pretty good, but i'm not sure how to get him into the squad. Is he versatile enough to rotate off the bench? Ahead of Savage?
King will absolutely play. I just assumed a conservative round 1, and i put Battle in the squad ahead of him. ( Battle also first in line if Carlisle is injured ).
Parker: I want him to play , but i can't find a way to get him in without injury. But the structure may end up different to how i have it.
Lonie: I have Kent slightly ahead of him. Will need to wait a couple of weeks until Kent gets injured.
Long: Needs to have more impact. I don't think VFL time will hinder his progress.
Jones , i hope will get plenty of midfield time. I hope that with Hannebery and him in there, that Gresham can spend more time forward.
Dunstan is our midfield grunt. I think its really only Bytel that has potential to push him out. ( Or longer term Byrnes ).
Savage was a close contest with Sinclair. I chose him for his ability in the backline, but the powers that be may prefer Sinclair's ability in the midfield and forward.
Clark : I liked what i saw last season, and i hope he can play midfield a lot more.
Bytel : Looking forward to seeing who he can push out of the Squad.

Clavarino : Needs a consistent season in the 2nds.
Joyce: Certainly has ability , needs to refine it a bit. Still only 22, will be handy when Brown retires.

He might be suitable as an outside mid on the bench, we'll need to see how he goes.

Richo wasn't as bad as people make out, and he tried Savage in a few spots earlier on, rebounding was his best posi.

He put him on a wing in his first few games then dropped him to Sandy where he looked like Johannisen and was back into the side as a defender. Never saw him played much out of the defensive end to be honest.

Can't believe people are leaving Wilkie out of their best 22.

7th in the b and f in his first year of footy.
We just have too many defenders. It's hard picking a defence thats balanced in height and includes everyone worth picking.

It's not unreasonable for Carlisle, Howard, Roberton and Battle to all be considered infront of him. And it's not unreasonable to pick smaller defenders to play on the small forwards.

Hope Hindys progress isn’t stifled by non selection. So many options not everyone can play. Hope Ratts is really tough and honest at the selection table, meaning all spots are up for grabs every week.

I think the problem for Wilkie (and Battle) lies here.

No guarantees obviously about his health but Robbo was AA standard in 2017.

1.9 Inside 50m,
6.2 Rebound 50m

My Pre Marsh games best 22

FB- Geary Howard Wilkie
HB- Webster Carlisle Roberton
C- Billings Hannebery Hill
HF- Gresham King Lonie
FF- Membrey Marshall Butler
R- Ryder Ross Steele

I- Clark Battle Kent Jones

E- Brown Long Sinclair Savage

My usual bored attempt at doing another side .
By the way if you can’t read my profile pic , the red flag says ‘ Go Home Brainstrust “ lol . I can’t remember who did it but I love it .

FB - Paton , Howard , Robbo
HB - Wilkie , Carlisle , Webster
C- Geary , Hannebery, Hill
HF - Billings , Battle , Kent
FF - Butler , Membrey , Gresham
R - Marshall , Steele , Ross
I/C - Parker , Ryder , Clark , Dunstan

Its time Geary was used in a more attacking way , he is a good mark , pretty quick and a useful kick sometimes lol.
Ive named Paton in the back pocket but it will come down to form between him , Jones , Savage , Coffield , Hind and others .
Robbo comes straight back in if fit , too good to leave out .

Hanneberry and Dunstan will swap through the centre . Billings and Kent both can swap with Hill if needed giving plenty of options .

Not sure who would start between Butler , Clark, Lonie , Hind , Parker and Long . Will all depend on preseason form .

Ryder start on the bench to give us a very quick forward line however can be swung forward in plan A doesnt work .

Starting Steele and Ross in the middle but I want a lot more rotations so they don’t run out of puff in the third quarter .

Would start King in the twos just to get his confidence up , i imagine he will be in the seniors pretty quick .

Yeah, crazy playing two good players in the one side...
