I think Goody has found a structure he likes which consists of:
In defence: 2 talls(Lever OMac TMac*), 2 small/medium defenders who can switch onto bigger guys(Hibberd Nev Smith Kielty Wagner*), 2 rebounding defenders(Frost Hunt Brayshaw* Wagner* Salem*)
In midfield: Ruck (Gawn Pedo* Watts*) + 5 guys who can play inside(Trac* Oliver Viney Tyson Jones Lewis JKH Maynard ANB* Salem*)
In offence: 1 tall(Hogan* TMac* Weideman), 1 more mobile, roaming tall(Hogan* Watts* Pedo*), 1 small(Jeffy Kennedy Kent*), 3 flankers who can run in the guts(one needs to play closer to goal) (Trac* Hannan Melksham ANB* Harmes Kent* Bugg AVB)

* denotes ability to play multiple roles

Not included: Stretch(we don't play with a pure winger although this could, and should change), Johnstone King Mckenna (these guys are still a bit off development wise), Garland Vince (cooked, Lewis joins this group soon IMO).

As you can see, we have easily 30+ players who can come in and fill a role to a good level by the start of next season(accounts for development which I expect from Smith, Wagner, Stretch, JKH who all showed signs this year IMO). This is very good depth.
Since Goody never plays with a true wingman, I think we are pretty good list-wise. Another young key defender(although Frost and Kielty could play this role) and winger(Stretch is the future though + Brayshaw should theoretically play this role well) couldn't hurt and we can always add talented guys like Fritsch and Balic to shore up the list and increase depth.

All in all I think the 22 lining up Round One next year barring injuries should be :
B: Hibberd Lever Jetta
HB: Frost OMac Hunt
C: Salem Oliver Brayshaw
HF: Neal Bullen Hogan Melksham
F: Hannan Mcdonald Garlett
R: Gawn Petracca Viney
INT: Jones Watts Lewis Tyson
emergencies: Pedersen, Maynard, Harmes

I like that side. Although I think Tmac plays back next year. Which means potentially Pedersen comes in for Frost. Assuming we get Lever of course. However I also wouldn't be surprised if we get Lever you are on the money and they try Tmac forward.

The hell is this

anyone think weid will be a best 22 regular next year?

Expect him to play 10-11 games of AFL as he keeps developing. Some might be more impatient but that's where I see him, he needs to start dominating VFL though.

Great player when he's on, but lacks effort and intensity.

He's a perfect fit.
He’s a kind better version of Col Sylvia who was my favourite way back when. Probably still is. So let’s get him in. And Col while we’re at it.

May as well, i don't think Col's doing much these days. Then again neither is the club, but he's got dat finals experiences from 06

I'm not even expecting that many games. He's barely playing well at VFL level and a top 8 side can't carry 2 key forwards who might not impact the game.

If he can put on some size and get his core strength up, I think his improvement curve will be sharp.

I think he'll bulk up a little this off season, play VFL for the first half of 2018, play 6-9 games in the second half, put on more size, dominate the 2019 pre season and be the FF we need right when we're meant to be hitting our strides.

it's all unknown at this stage...on the proviso that our list is as it stands, i'd go with the following for my preferred 25:

B: Jetta - Frost - Hibberd
HB: Hunt - O Mac - Vince
C: Salem - Jones - Lewis
HF: Petracca - T Mac - Melksham
F: Watts - Hogan - Garlett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/C: Brayshaw - Tyson - Hannan - Neal-Bullen
Emerg: Stretch - Pedersen - vandenBerg

now if my dreams come true and we move on:
- lever for pick 10 and second round pick
- gaff for future first rounder and kent
- balic added as depth for a fourth rounder

B: Jetta - Frost - Lever
HB: Hunt - O Mac - Hibberd
C: Gaff - Jones - Lewis
HF: Petracca - T Mac - Melksham
F: Watts - Hogan - Garlett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/C: Salem - Tyson - Hannan - Neal-Bullen
Emerg: Brayshaw - Pedersen - Vince

but 'best 22' never ever happens as we all know

No thanks on Gaff for me.
Balic is really us doing Casey a favour.

Maybe if Balic comes in we ship out Tyson, Maynard into the guts for round 1?

Balic replaces Maynard in Casey.

Not too sure if it is a Kennedy/Melksham trade where we identified a potential best 22 players and persisted with them, or if it's a Mckenna trade where we take a punt on a talent in a shallow draft even with Balic's drug issues.

As much as I'd entertain a Tyson trade I don't think he or the club would. Where have you read about Balics 'drug issues'?

Not so much issues, apparently his fall to pick 38 was due to complications outside footy that weren't his homesickness. Also rumoured he is, work ethic wise, down on most players in the afl.

I don't think you should write about his 'drug issues' as fact without evidence

It was mostly due to his wrist being totally stuffed IIRC
