Lots of people expecting an 18yo draftee to jump the queue of some/all of Lloyd, Dickson and Dale (and Lipinski )...
I'm pretty sure many (myself included) were similarly sceptical a couple years back about Ed Richards. If he shows promise over the next couple of months, and especially if any injuries happen, there is a very solid chance that Weightman is playing round 1. In fact, I get the impression the club basically expects the first round draftees to be featuring very early

Injuries point I agree with, the rest not so much, but time will tell.

I wouldn’t expect him to be playing in front of Dale, Lloyd or Lipinski, however, it’s possible that he is in front of Dickson. If Dicko is at his best then no way would Weightman be ahead of him, but he wasn’t always at his best last season and was injured quite a bit, and he is another year older. I’m sure the club would be hoping that Weightman pushes his way into the team. It won’t be at the expense of the first three but probably will be at the expense of Dicko at some stage.
Rhylee West is the other one who should also be pushing up for selection but from what I gather Weightman is more of a natural forward than West is.

Ed Richards played 20 games mostly at half forward for 9 goals.

Where to play Mitch Wallis is an interesting exercise in 2020. Lipinski is younger and sexier.

I like that team Yojimbo so much versatility and undoubted awesomeness. Yes it is a pretty damn good team
I was going to post pretty much the same thing. It is the offseason buddy talking to yourself is acceptable.

This is the team that beat Essendon
4.9 33 to 21.11 137.
21 snags in a row if you dont mind
Our offence and defence was a joy to watch that night and the weeks that followed.
I was actually giggling to myself during the game i was that exited. I felt like a little child again it was top shelf material watching the dogs thump teams again.

From here i would swap 4 players.
I'd swap Liberatore with Daniel though if tommy wasn't available.

Ins:
J.Bruce
A.Keath
C.Weightman
T.Liberatore/C.Daniel

Outs:
T.Dickson
J.Trengove
W.Hayes
E.Richards

This would leave my predicted round 1 team looking like this

B.Smith(full pre season) takes Richards role on the wing which allows Bruce to squeeze in to the F50
You can place the Naughton Bruce Schache trio anyway you want but i went with Bruce at FF and Naughton as CHF leaving Schache in one of the remaining positions.
Keath fills the FB position left by Trengove in DEF.
Weightman takes Dickson spot in the FWD line.
And finally Liberatore or Daniel to take the 22nd spot on the list as Hayes is very much
Down the pecking order now.

Thats 45 players to chose from albeit injury next season.
This is probably delving into another thread here but damn we got some depth even after losing quality players the past few seasons.
Collingwood better be ready for who ever pulls on the tri colours in round 1 that's all im sayin

I think we'd all agree there is no best 22 currently (as there never is in December). What there is is a group of 45 players, some of whom are (a) locks for the R1 team, (b) those strongly in contention/ probables, (c) some currently on the fringes but possibles and some (d) depth/development.

I'd divide the list as follows;

Tall defenders (2/3 spots);
(a) none,
(b) Keath, Le Young, Cordy
(c) Trengove
(d) Gardner

Midsize Defenders (4/5 spots);
(a) Crozier, JJ
(b) Daniel, Wood,, Duryea, Suckling
(c) Williams, La Young, R.Smith
(d) Vandermeer, Khamis

Ruck (1 spot);
(a) English
(b&c) none
(d) Sweet

* Should English be unavailable early in 2020, Trengove probably plays, but I've got him listed primarily as a kpd. Bruce and Schache are other possibilities /2nd rucks with English out.

Inside mids (4 spots)
(a) Bont, Macrae, Dunkley
(b) Libba
(c) none
(d) Porter

Wing/High Half forward/mid rotation (4)
(a) Hunter, B.Smith
(b) Maclean, Lipinski, Richards
(c) Wallis, Hayes, West, Lynch, Jong
(d) Butler, Garcia

Tall Forward (2/3)
(a) Naughton, Bruce
(b) Schache
(c&d) none

Small/medium forwards (3/4)
(a) none
(b) Lloyd, Dale, Dickson, Weightman
(c) Gowers, Cavarra, Greene

So I'd have 10 R1 locks; JJ, Crozier, English, Bont, Macrae, Dunkley, Hunter, B.Smith, Naughton, Bruce

16 as strongly in contention for the other 12 spots; Keath, Le Young, Cordy, Wood, Daniel, Duryea, Suckling, Libba, Maclean, Lipinski, Richards, Schache, Lloyd, Dale, Dickson, Weightman.

12 as being currently outside best 22 but with the capacity to challenge with a big preseason; Trengove, La Young, R.Smith, Williams, Wallis, Hayes, West, Lynch, Jong,, Cavarra, Greene, Gowers

7 as purely depth or players in development; Gardner, Vandermeer, Khamis, Sweet, Porter, Butler, Garcia

Even so, it's fun to have a go, so as at R1 I'd go for;

Keath, Le Young, Cordy
JJ, Wood, Crozier
Hunter, Dunkley, B.Smith
Schache, Naughton, Lloyd
Weightman, Bruce, Dale

English, Bont, Macrae
Lipinski, Daniel, Libba, Maclean

R1 FOOTSCRAY

La Young, Trengove, Suckling
R.Smith, Gardner, Duryea
Vandermeer,, Williams, Hayes
West, Gowers, Jong
Cavarra, Dickson, Greene

Sweet, Wallis, Richards
Lynch, Porter, Butler, Khamis,

Injured; Garcia

Why do you have West in the to far back category?
Is he injured or something?

Gonna agree. West was runner up best and fairest in the VFL this year. Saying he's too far back from even the VFL is pretty ridiculous.
I guess my point was kind of missed. I didnt explain it that well so thats my fault. I have West as the 9th best inside mid. Obviously practically he is not going to be too far back to play VFL. But he is too far back in my opinion to occupy an inside mid spot in the VFL. He is therefore going to fill one of the question mark spots at half forward, if that makes sense.

Yes I feel for West, he will find it difficult to retain a best 22 spot.

I think it’s either him or Mclean for that rotating mid/high half forward role.

unless West can really give us a point of difference with being a pressure forward.

The inclusion of Weightman makes this even more difficult for West.

So drafting Weightman, who has never played a senior game, makes it harder for West(and others) who are already in the system?

Weightman specialises in West's secondary position, and his primary position is really hard to break into.
putting a lot of pressure on Weightman

We bought Cavarra in to play that position and how did he go? Weightman isn’t guaranteed anything yet and West is a fair way in front of him as of today.

Okay that makes more sence but i completely disagree with your opinion in regards to West not being able to hold down an inside midfield position in the VFL.
The VFL is to develop our young players and it makes no sense to have Libba and Wallis the two main mids in the 2's.

You have as your 3 inside mids
1 Libba (if fit he plays seniors as much as i would rather him start in the 2's)
2 Wallis (can only play 1's as a fwd so why take a spot of a young developing mid)
3 Mclean (doesn't play that position in the 1's so again, why play their in the 2's)
Then you have Lipinski on the bench in the 2's... but in fairness our midfield in the seniors is stacked so even though i dont think he play reserves a few good players will miss out every week im sure.

As previously mentioned West came second in the jj liston trophy playing as an inside mid whist missing 3 or 4 games as he was in the seniors and travelling emergancy. Impressive!

He was picked for our first final since 2016 in his first season after only playing 3 games. Also very impressive!

I don't see West running around in the reserves fwd 50 at all, let alone in a permanent position.

Yeah I get that, I’ve got 4 inside mids (1 bench) in both the VFL and AFL. I was intending to show that I think we should have more players specialising in their primary position instead of us having mids in the forwardline etc. I believe West will be a gun but for the purpose of my round 1 team I just have him too far back in his primary position to really even challenge for it. I think that’s a testament more to our depth then any potential knock on West. I suppose my team could be considered more of a depth chart than a feasible round 1 team but that was more the purpose of it.

It's a good team but if the focus is on playing players in their best position, I wouldn't have JJ on a wing.

His biggest asset is the withering burst of speed he can provide, breaking the lines a few times a quarter.

If he is asked to run the 14 kns a match the modern day winger is required to, I reckon his best weapon as a burst athlete would largely be blunted.
