I think most of you would agree that last night's game may have changed a few things in regards with our starting line-up. In my opinion Bolton, Peverill and Heffernan were almost the worst on ground and in saying that are almost no chance in playing Round 1. These are good signs as our depth has been a concern over the last couple of years. Our depth looks really solid for 2007. In saying that here is my best 22:

B: Welsh Michael McVeigh
HB: Mcphee Fletcher Lovett-Murray
C: M.John Watson Dyson
HF: Hird Lucas Lovett
F: Davey Lloyd Johns
R: Hille J.John Stanton

Int: Laycock Campo Houli Monfries

I would be keen to hear your thoughts and for you to post your best 22

B: McVeigh Michael Cole
HB: Mcphee Fletcher Lovett-Murray
C: M.Johnson Watson Welsh
HF: Lovett Lucas Hird
F: Monfries Lloyd Johns
R: Hille J.Johnson Stanton

Int: Laycock Campo Houli Pev

For me, Dyson hasn’t done enough to get a gig in the starting 18. Welsh on the wing allows Cole to play a running defender role, hopefully he can shed his baggage and put out a few good innings.

i still think people are being awfully tough on Pev. I believe we need someone in the team that can both get the ball, and play a shut down role if need be. It adds great versatility, much in the Tyson Stenglien model.

Also, i reckon Courtney Dempsey would be ahead of players such as Davey and Jetta as he has showed glimpses in his few AFL games, once the others show signs Im sure they will battle it out with Dempsey, Lonergan, Dyson and Nash for a place in the team.

What ever happens, we have great competition in each position, which we have not had in years. That is the make up of a great team

Would have thought Monfries would have at least made the 25 man squad. Also, not sure if you could have all those new recruits playing at the one time.

b: mcveigh michael cole

hb: mcphee fletcher lovet-murray

c: lovett watson winderlich

hf: hird lucas johns

f: monfries lloyd davey

ruck: hille stanton jj

bench: houli, m. johnson, laycock, campo

emerg: dempsey, lonergan, ryder

could have snuck in: jetta, nash, dyson, slattery, bradley (even though i don't rate him very highly), hislop. nash and dyson have both had very interrupted pre seasons, therefore i didn't pick them.

at the crossroads: welsh, bolton, heffernan, peverill

and the ones that i left out i expect that they will spend the year at bendigo developing.

i just think that welsh always kicks sideways and is very overrated, he coughs it up and makes bad desicions all the time

It's called a switch of play, backline transition, opening up space. Anything you like...

That's the way the game is played now. If you don't have a target straight down the ground and for the most part last season we didn't, you switch play to the open side. That was Welsh's role and that's what he did.

Alrighty,i can't help my self..this is the 22 for rd 1..imo of course;)

excluding all draftees except maybe (big maybe) Davey (who will start,if he plays well in the nab cup...)

Welsh MM McViegh

NLM Fletcher McPhee

Lovett Jobe Kepler

Hird Johns Scotty

Mr Sunbury Captain Monfries

Rucks-Hille,JJ, Stanton

The Pine- Dyson,Laycock,Winderlich and Davey

Why do some of you think Kepler will play wing??? His skills aren't good enough and his pace is nothing special. We have plenty of guys who are capable of playing on the wing such as dyson, winderlich, lovett, houli and maybe even m.j or welshy.

Kepler will not be playing wing this year. He will play in defence on the dud forward or won't play at all. Sheeds is fed up giving him opportunities when he doesn't really deserve it.

Kepler will not be playing wing this year.

That's funny, in every single practice game he's spent time on the wing.
It's where he developed as a junior and he played their again today.

So if he won't be playing on the wing this year, our coaching staff don't know about it.

Sheeds is fed up giving him opportunities when he doesn't really deserve it.

Been talking to Sheeds have you?

ahh longy i think i know a thing or two about switching the play (seeing as i play soccer), and welsh does not switch the play he just doesn't want to kick the ball down and get it moving because his skills are not good enough to pinpoint targets on the wing.

Then I have to say, I think you need to watch more footy and less soccer.

Okay, well you need to pay more attention then.

Welsh is a good kick of the footy, but not a long kick of the footy.
And he plays the style of footy he is instructed to play.

Ever wonder why when he kicks sideways that there is always a target there for him to kick it to?

Because he's instructed to go sideways just as our other defenders are instructed to make position sideways.
