If Rooke isn't fit, then Hunt comes in. Varcoe only on the slight edge that he has played all year and is on a bit of a rookie downturn (didn't play much last year, this year is virtually his rookie campaign), or I'd select a roughie, like Vegas.

Hunt's spot in the 22 has been firmly secured after his performance on the weekend. He should not go out of the team unless he has a shocker prior to the finals or Rooke gets back to his best (or at least better than Hunt).

Last weeks team against the kangaroos will be our best 22 for the finals.

The only inclusion I would make would be Rooke for either Kelly or J Hunt if Max could get at least 3 VFL games under his belt.

There is no doubt that that would happen in the game at some stages.

Love the fact that Geelong has so many options through the middle with little separating them. They are all working and all have little pluses and minuses. I can certainly understand preferring Wojak on the field instead of Kelly. Your set-up is probably a little more attacking and shows a bit more run and carry. I'd argue mine is stronger defensively and will win a bit more contested ball. In the end little separates the two.

Rooke can be scary in the centre. When he came back from injury and went to the middle it seemed like at times he was moving the ball forward through sheer will and determination.

The big questions IMO -

- do we risk Rooke? As much as I want him in, he does have a track record of breaking down in games. We don't want that sort of risk in the early stage of a final. Suggest we only select Rooke if we lose a key "in and under player (i.e.Bartel, Ablett, Selwood)

- Nathan - one way of looking at this issue - if Mooney is injured in a game, is Nathan big/agile/fit enough to fill in as the go to/leading forward? Nath has the agility and but is not big bodied and his injury is affecting his form. If Mooney was injured - obviously Ottens to Full Forward is a back up, but we still need a CHF. Think we have to try another before the finals. Gardiner has the mobility, but I wouldn't want him as the sole KPP target if Ottens is in the ruck. Think we should play Playfair - big body, reasonably agile - also gives us a ruck back up if (heaven forbid) Ottens injury track record returns.

- King or Blake. For me - a question of form and fitness. Blake's tap work has clearly been better. King also has a track record of mid game injuries. Think we have to go with Blake.

- Varcoe - This guy will be fanastic for us with another pre season. My concern is that he is not fit enough and could be overwhelmed in the hurly burly of a final. Also has no track record of playing upfield. Shannon Byrnes has pace, good defensive skills, is fitter and can play upfield. The big question of course is his kicking but - is Varcoe kicking goals? The trade off - Varcoe magic with assists and better closing speed against Byrnes better fitness and upfield flexibility. Think we go with Varcoe in the first final and see how he goes.

- Hunt or David Johnson - Think Johnson is tighter defender and his footskills are very good. Hunt is better overhead, longer kick (although more clanger potential). Hunt was unfit earlier this year however seems to have addressed this and played a great game against a good side last week. IMO - stick with Hunt, but Johnson gets the gig if blooper count increases/confidence drops.
