Selwood's of the modern era

For nostalgia all 4 Danihers playing on the same day Round 22, 1990 is pretty bloody special - I don't know anyone who has the whole game in it's entirely and all 4 brothers played well (weren't making up the numbers)

Anthony at CHB 27 touches and 12 marks
Chris in the middle 24 touches
Neale in the forward pocket 3 goals 4 behinds
Terry at CHF 15 touches 7 marks and a goal
The closest all the Selwoods got to playing on the same ground was the Geelong v West Coast Semi-Final in 2011. Adam and Scott Selwood for West Coast v Joel Selwood playing for Geelong. Troy Selwood played for Brisbane and later our VFL side but all four brothers sadly never got to play together in senior footy.

We touched them up 17.15 (117) to 10.9 (69)

That was the Coventry’s that beat Hawthorn by 52 points, not Collingwood.

I understand. I was making a joke. Hawks were raw garbage until Kennedy and Arthur came along.

We only ever did okay against the other new teams. The established teams had training runs against us.

Kelvin and Leigh Mathews,
leigh Mathews 330 games 900 goals, kelvin 150 and 160.
had fairly good careers

In this game in 1977 vs Fitzroy Kelvin kicked 8 and Leigh kicked 6.

Mathews family 14.4.88 defeated Fitzroy 12.14.86

I didn’t know matthews had a brother playing until this post, that’s unbelievable kicking the only goals of a winning team 😮!

1. Harry and Albert Collier
2. Gordon and Syd Coventry
3. (Projected) Nick and Josh Daicos

Albert and Harry Collier by the length of Flemington.

12 Premierships between them and a Brownlow Medal each

Agree it has to be the Collier brothers with the combined Premierships and Brownlow Medals.

Of more recent players, Simon and Justin Madden are worth mentioning. Both played over 300 games, two Premierships each plus Simon finished second in the Brownlow in 1988 (also third in 1983) while Justin finished second in the Brownlow in 1985.

Only set of brothers with over 300 games each.

Plus Simon also kicked 575 goals as a part time forward, which is nothing to be sneezed at.

Syd and Gordon Coventry might be worth a look.

One was a good Collingwood captain. The other kicked 1299 goals from 306 games

The one that was captain, Sydney Andrew Coventry, won a Brownlow and was considered BOG in the GF in a Premiership year, a Premiership he skippered. The other brother had ugly boils on the back of his neck which a certain Richmond defender felt compelled to punch. :)

Kellaways were decent for Tigers.

Brett Goodes and his brother Adam did pretty well between them.

Look at the 3 Richmond cowards ganging up on Gordon Coventry. No wonder he retaliated.
By the time of that game in 1936, Coventry had played 17 seasons and never been reported. But the tribunal suspended him.
The cowardly Richmond plan backfired.
Pies won that game at Punt Road and went on to heroically win the flag in 1936 without Coventry.

Port have had a few

Chad and Kane Cornes
Peter and Shaun Burgoyne
Justin and Matthew Westhoff
Robbie and Sam Gray
Adam Thomson and Wade Thompson
Jarrod and Taj Schofield
Todd and Kyle Marshall

Looks a vicious attack this one Occident. One of Coventry's opponents looks to be trying to person the mark. Another seems to be assisting Coventry to stay upright and the 3rd opponent is trying to provide some stability to allow the second to do his job properly.

Are you sure that is even Richmond and not Essendon? It does look a bit like Joe Murdoch trying to assist the boil-necked goal sneak to stay on his feet there though.

But come on Occident, this was the 1930's we are discussing, tell me you would be able to look at a neck full of ugly boils on your opponent and resist whacking them...:)
