Best Bumps?

Part of what made Dermott my favorite ever Hawk was that he made himself the target, defending players like Platten, and coping punishment without complaint. Worsfold was the same.

This hit is on another level.

I remember watching Mark Graham line up on Lockett in the late 1990's, giving him 15 kgs, and every time he stood within 5 feet of Lockett he got whacked. You needed courage just to play honest defence on Plugger.

They ended up playing together as team mates too. Plugger's hit was down right dirty. Elbow to the face, high and deliberate. These days if you did that you'd miss the entire season.

Running for a loose ball with an opposition player coming the other way, last second realised the best option was to bump, as much to protect myself as anything, and hit the guy straight up the middle with a perfectly legal hip and shoulder. The guy was fine, just very slow getting up, I grabbed the loose ball kicked it forward.

I thought I was awesome, but the opposing captain mustn’t have liked it and he targeted me the rest of the game, dropping his knees into my back in packs and whacking me in the back of the head whenever he got the chance. Got a few frees from his shenanigans, but ump wouldn’t have picked up a quarter of what he did.

^^^Just googled Wattsy after reading your post.

Another ****en brain dead AFL dick head. Stupid campaigner.

I wish it was true but I doubt it. Plugger was too much of a commodity to his team and the AFL for him to be handed that sort of penalty. The most anyone has ever been suspended for is 9matches?!?

Not sure to be honest mate. And to be fair I think he did get 7 or 8 for that '' bump ''

Beau Waters used to dish them out left right and centre

That one on Patch Adams was a thing of beauty, the AFL lawyers and rule makers would have been desperate to get him but it's just so damn perfect

Aaron Francis delivered a nice one on poor ol JOM last season. The reward for his text book bump you might ask? A $2k fine. What a world...

Utterly ludicrous that he was fined for that. Perfect hip and shoulder, no contact to the head with both players charging for the ball.

It should be shown as an example to a) deliver a bump and b) take a bump.

2 that I personally witnessed:

#1 Gary Ablett Senior colliding with Wayne Johnston at Kardinia Park in 1989 (?), for all intensive purposes ending The Dominator's career

#2 Ray Card ironing out Keith Greig at Kardinia Park back in the late-'70s (?), brutality at its best (worst?)

Another example of Francis' footy smarts.

Love this kid.

Few have his game reading abilities.

The worst I have seen was Mumford's front-on bump on Mitch Duncan in 2017. It typified Mumford's penchant for taking on smaller / lighter opponents.

The best I have seen was Gary Ablett's bump on Wayne Johnston at Kardinia Park. It was the noise of the bump that has stayed with me
