So we’ve got a couple of hours to fill in, and I saw Porplyzia in the old Tex v Dockers video, and if got me thinking.

Is Porps our most unfulfilled talent? He was an amazing player for a little while. Goal kicking mid/fwd. I remember early in Robbie Gray’s career I called him the poor man’s Porps.

I am not sure I have ever seen a better mark. Just the stickiest fingers. Amazingly clean ball handler.

Anyway, then he did his shoulder and was never the same.

He’s my pick for the player who should have been a great but wasn’t.

Who else is there?

Trent Hentschel :(

Shaun Rehn was obviously still a star but I maintain that he would have been an AFL Hall of Famer without the knee injuries

James Thiessen? Was only 24 years old in our 1998 Flag. Looked to have some class. Disappeared.

Chris Knights. One 43 goal season averaging 18 touches. Injuries and faded after that

I knew someone was gonna say Hentschel. I was never fully sold on him. He was so mercurial, in the best and worst kind of way.
Season 2 No GIF by The Lonely Island

Paul Seedsman. In 2021 he deserved an All Aus and losing him meant we have had to watch Sholl pull out of contests.

Brodie Martin, looked like he would be unreal, then the knee injury. Always thought he was stiff to get delisted as he was decent even after the injury.

Matthew Jaensch, 2014 season and the first part of 2015 was a fantastic half back but an ACL and then drink driving and his career went up in smoke

Andy Otten looked like he could be anything until the injury. Still eked out a 100 game career in the end, but was never the same again.

Trent Hentschel
Shaun Rehn
Mark Stevens
Andy Otten

All denied by injury.

Adam Saliba

Denied by lack of brains

I'm agreeing on Hentschel.... cruelled by Port thuggery.

Definitely not Thiessen though.
