Maric, Griffin and Moran are being overloked just a tad here

Maric ave 17.1 HO
Griffin ave 16.8 HO
Moran ave 9.0 HO

that's some decent numbers there plus they can all pinch hit up forward!

north Melbourne
Mcintosh ave 15.9 (abliet he was injured this year)
Petrie ave 9.5
Hale ave 8.5

Hale played a lot up forward, McIntosh played all but 3 games unfit and Petrie isn't really a ruckman. He gets the gig for his ability at the clearances and his around the ground work. Goldstein should have been given a hell of a lot more game time and it stills puzzles me as to why he didn't.

Anyway, I'm not stating other clubs don't have claims, I was relating more to the ridiculous Carlton response in this thread.

the numbers say it all!

Not really. What does it matter which ruckman palms the ball down if the other ruckman influences the clearance after that?

Fabian Deluca and Jonathan Giles. Read it and weep.

Seriously, it's the Crows as much as I hate to say it. McIntosh isn't really developing anymore and Hale is a forward now. Maric, Tippett, Moran and Griffin combined > Goldstein.

Exactly right. Petrie was the most dominant ruckman around the ground last year. That includes Cox, Hille and Sandilands.

Our set plays revolved around kicking to Petrie in a contest on the wing, and 9/10 he was taking the contested mark.

Cox definately has him on athletisim, but hes not even close to as good overhead, its probably a good example of a offensive ruckman (Cox), getting forward and kicking goals, where as Petrie is more of a defensive ruckman, taking contested marks up and around CHB, dropping in the hole, getting clearances etc.

I agree.

North would have close to the best developed stocks if there was a poll, of which im happy with :)

We've had 2 different rucks in the AA squad over the lat 2 years, and the other is getting better and better, as evident by the 8 goals against Geelong.

Cox and Petrie played completely different roles when roaming around the ground. Cox was played more as a ball winning midfielder and sweeper across half back, whereas Petrie had more defensive roles. I just noticed that's exactly what you wrote in your final paragraph :D. Carry on.

Re: Best developing rucktocks

Me being biased, i'd have to say Carlton. 2 of Warnock, Kreuzer and Hampson should be a deadly combination in a few years time. All are 202cm + and very mobile. Kreuzer efficient in the forward line.

What a self-gratifying thread to start...............

It's hard to split Adelaide, Carlton and North.. although both Hale and McIntosh have majorly developed already.

The Hawks' stocks aren't bad either;
  • Campbell/Taylor - both arguably approaching their potential within the next season.
  • Renouf - Aggressive, awesome spring.. will be a gun ruckman.
  • Bailey - Suffered injuries, however massive potential, 206 cm.

North by so far it isn't funny.

McIntosh and Hale are both 24, Todd Goldstein is 20 and a far better ruckman at that age than either McIntosh or Hale.

Anyone who rates the Carlton ruckmen superior to Norths needs their head read.

Ruckman start hitting their straps mid 20s. You can't say your ruckman are better than ours, they are 4 or 5 years older than ours. I'm talking about late teens - early 20s ruckman. The kind that haven't shined on the field yet but look like they'll be formidable in a few years.

North definitely have the best young developed ruckman, without a doubt. I just fail to see how you can categorise them as "developing" when they supposedly deserve AA. Sure they might have room for improvement, but they are pretty established AFL footballers already.

Carlton, Adelaide, and Hawthorn IMO have good young ruck prospects. Brisbane and Collingwood only have Luenberger and Wood respectively meaning that though they have quality, their 2nd ruck position is still wide open.

Melbourne, Richmond and Port Adelaide by far have the worst young ruck stocks IMO. They need to address them quickly, especially Richmond - they don't want their team losing potency over the next few years because they can't get enough first use. Melbourne has time to address the problem. Port...well....i think they'll be able to develop one in time for Brogan's retirement.

Dont let the truth get in the way of a good story. Warnock and Hampson will be 22 and 21 respectively by the time the season starts. McIntosh turned 24 in September.

As said above, McIntosh averaged 16 disposals and 19 hitouts a game, accross a full season, at the same age as Warnock in 09'.

I agree with Adelaide, Carlton and North having good ruck stocks...

Some people are forgetting that Renouf is a premiership ruck now and is averaging 10.3 hit outs a game

Leuenberger is also averaging 10.2 hit outs per game but in 08 he got 20+ hit outs 3 times. He will continue to improve as he gets more games and less injuries.

Another example of a Carlton fan making a very specific poll that they think they will win.

Here's an idea for a new poll. Which team has the most players named kreuzer?

It's interesting how replies can influence the poll results. Yesterday Adelaide were about 10 votes behind Carlton and Adelaide, and now that they've been talked up considerably they've shot up into second.

Mind you, I think Carlton having as many votes as they do is a little farcical.

Are those doubts in relation to his footballing abilities, or is it somewhat based on the amount Carlton paid to get him?

I would say those doubts would be based on the fact he's done 2/5 of fcuk all, as yet.

His acquisition says a bit about the faith the football department has in Hampson...

Kreuzer looks good, but shows more as a forward IMO.

Carlton's ruck stocks... pfft. Overlooking Leunberger showed a lack of foresight IMO.:thumbsd:

Agree, Hawthorn have an effective partnership.

i'm not here defending warnock, i also have my doubts on him, but that comment is just blatantly ignorant and highlights how little idea you have of what is actually going on. just in case you know, it does no good for a young up and coming ruckman to be thrown into the ruck when his body isn't ready for it. so using the foresight which you claim we lack, we brought in another more developed ruckman so he can play the majority of the game in the ruck and ease the workload off our younger blokes in hampson and kreuzer.

I cannot agree with that logic.

Why waste a very valuable draft pick (24), in a draft that would almost certainly get Carlton a very good player, if Carlton thought they only required a servicable big body until the other ruckman developed?

Carlton could have taken Jeff White for free!!!!!!!!!!

because the FD believe warnock will be a very good player, a much better alternative than getting hammered in the ruck every week. don't forget if we don't play finals next year, heads will roll.
