FB: Lower Carlile Farmer
HB: Pettigrew Chaplin Surjan

I'm pretty happy with that really. Farmer is the only one who hasn't been tested for more than a couple of games, and the rest are established players in our side. All fairly young, and all fairly talented. There is plenty of room for another player to come in and take a spot as well.

B : Dempsey, Daniher, Nash
HB : Pears, Ryder, Houli

So therefore, Essendon. :D

If we were to field a yound backline without anyone over 24 it would be:
BP: Bower Jammo Anderson
HB: Walker Austin Thornton

I think that is pretty good.

T-Bird is 25, same age as Waite, but should still have plenty of good footy left. However, if you want a backline of players under 25 from Carlton I would pick

B: Browne, Jamison, Austin
HB: Walker, Bower, Grigg

They're all 22 or younger, and I think will develop nicely for us...

Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne, West Coast, Brisbane, Collingwood, North Melbourne and Richmond are probably the top eight.

This is how I see North's:
Firrito - Gibson - Urquhart
Jesse Smith - Hansen - Lower

Anthony will play forward IMO.

HB: Clarke O'Brien H.Shaw
FB: Goldsack Brown Toovey
.....

Toovey - he shouldn't play AFL level. Many Pie fans would agree on that point

Brown - just too slow, and lacks the agility to play CHB at AFL level. Got cut to shreds yet again last night. Fev exposed Brown's slowness as well. The opposition coaches are clearly targetting his poor mobility, I don't see what's acheived by forcing him to play CHB, as it's clearly destroying his confidence. Play him in the forwardline - he's a good kick and strong over-head

O'Brien - is a terrible, 189cm "KP" defender. Poor on talls or smalls. Fev delivered him some almighty shlacking's this year

So the Pies defense is a concern, but some would argue their midfield has even bigger problems at the moment. It's a question of which problem area is biggest. :)

The tigers have the most impressive defensive talent, and are just starting to learn to work as a unit and adapt to our new gameplan in this wallace era

Very tall defenders
- Angus Graham (200cm). Fast, athletic, perfect matchup for the Gorillas' and resting rucks

Tall, athletic defenders (190 to 194cm)
-Will Thursfield
-Luke McGuane
-Alex Rance
-Jay Schultz
-David Gourdis (a truly outstanding defensive/offensive talent. Off the scale closing speed)

Medium, ultra-fast rebounding defenders
-Kelvin Moore
-Chris Newman

Small defenders, with extreme speed for opposition small diving forwards
-Danny Meyer
-Jordan McMahon
-Andrew Raines
-Jake King

So, wallace has quite a nice mix of defensive talent at his disposal. We can pretty much adapt to a small or tall opposition forwardline. The tigers are rapidly turning a previous defensive weakness into a strength. :)

seems like this is another thread trying to boost excitement levels of underperforming clubs such as richmond, carlton and my own team melbourne. A better thread would be 'the best defense in the AFL'. That is actually a claim worth having. Melbourne has some promising defenders
Garland, Warnock, Martin, rivers (if he ever gets fit), Frawley, Chris Johnson, Simon Buckley and Jack Grimes.
Thats cold comfort for the fact we came last by a long way, were largely uncompetitive and averaged 120 points against each week.
Stop wasting time cmparing whos 'emerging' and whos not. I'd give anything to be in cats, hawks, saints or dogs position. Give me that over having an 'emerging' team anyday. Being an 'emerging' team doesnt win you anything.

I think the saints have all them teams well covered
LBP.Gram.FB.Mcguire.RBP.Raph Clarke.
LHB.Goddard.CHB.Gilbert.RHB.Dempster

we also have jarryn geary, jayden attard, mcqualter, gwilt
so the saints still have a really competitive back 6 for another 6-10 years only worry is mcguire

Richmond- McGuane, Thurstfield and Moore. Plus Rance, Schultz, Raines, King, Meyer. Not a whole lot of versitility here but McGuane, Thurtsfield and Moore have shown that they can play on both the bigger players and the nippier ones. Raines has been injured all year but will be back better then ever and Meyer should be knocking on the door next year.

Collingwood- Brown, O'Brien and Goldsack. Plus Shaw, Cox, Maxwell. Alot more versitility here with Brown being able to go up forward and Goldsack and Cox being able to be moved onto the wing.

These two teams are so far ahead of anyother young backline it's not funny.

IMO West Coast also have one of the most promising. Spanger, Wilkes, Mackenzie, etc all look likely types.

Richmond- McGuane, Thurstfield and Moore. Plus Rance, Schultz, Raines, King, Meyer...

Shulz (to Crows), and Meyer (to Hawks) have requested to be traded from the Tiges last year you'll recall. I'd be surprised if both are on your list in 2009. King..mm. Do you think he's an AFL level footballer. Not close. Raines is close to trade/delisting as well. Rance hasn't played a game yet, because Terry prefers to play a heap of 30 year old and olders in your starting 22 for mid-ladder finish reasons. McGuane, Thursfield, and Moore are only 189 to 191 cm. Bit short. Looks like defense is another major weakness - lacking height, talent and versatility. :)

Angus Graham is a ruckman.

-Alex Rance
-Jay Schultz
-David Gourdis (a truly outstanding defensive/offensive talent. Off the scale closing speed)
Rance is yet to play a game, Schultz is a spare parts man who tried but isn't up to it and if Gourdis is a "truly outstanding defensive/offensive talent" with "off the scale closing speed" then he would have been taken in the National Draft not the PSD and would have played a game by now.

Medium, ultra-fast rebounding defenders
-Kelvin Moore
Moore plays key position for you guys yet you describe him as "medium" and "ultra-fast" which shows he while he is a good player he is a little to small and will have the tendancy to get rag-dolled from time to time... and I wouldn't describe him as "ultra-fast" either.

Small defenders, with extreme speed for opposition small diving forwards
-Danny Meyer
-Jordan McMahon
-Andrew Raines
-Jake King
The jury is still out on Meyer, McMahon's never played a true defensive role in his life so his "extreme speed" isn't used for small diving forwards, Raines has been out for a while but has shown what he can do and King unfortunately isn't upto AFL standard.

Ess would Be:
BP: Henry Slattery- very good shut down defender to have, will be good for 10-12 years to come
FB: Tayte Pears: This guy will be a star, he's just strong, fast, Mobile, and a decent height, so will be awesome for the dons for a long time to come.
BP: Cale Hooker: built like a stick, but something just makes me think that he'll be a lot like Fletcher, as around the same height, similar body structure, but does have closing speed.
HBF: David Myers: this guy just looks like a true HB line player, long kick, Gilbee like, speed, just will be awesome back there
CHB: Paddy Ryder: Gun. He vs Waite for AA CHB position for 10 years.
HBF: Courtney Dempsey: end of my tall, fast, gun HB line, very silky skills, speed is awesome, as he will be a star HBF if he stays fit.

EDIT: Essendon, Bulldogs, Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood ahead of the rest
