In my time we had the great winning sides of 2003, 2007, 2015, 2023. Before then wasn't my era. We're the best at cricket.

Which side is the best of the lot in your opinion?

I went to the semi and final in 2015. We were a good side then too. Great game vs New Zealand in the group phase where we got bowled out for **** all but almost won.

Every world cup side was stacked obviously. 2023 beating India in India an all time classic ..

That performance in the 2023 final was truly astonishing. Especially in the field.

Lucky bastard! Edgbaston is still one of the top three ODIs ever played (cheers, White Lightning!)
I'll never forget that last ball as long as I live Klusner hit it and I thought we were f***ed I went to put my head in hands then the crowd screamed and I looked up and both the South Africans were at the same end. Damian Fleming is the unsung hero that day, how cool was he rolling the ball down the pitch like he did?

I'd hate to think what you were doing when Reiffel palmed it over the rope!

I saw it on delay without knowing. Could believe it.

You sure you have the right sequence of events here? Big Lance hardly hit that last ball hard - he chunked it off the inside edge and it essentially dribbled down the wicket.

You may be thinking about the first two balls of that over that he drilled for 4. Those shots were as hard as someone could hit a cricket ball.

It is always worthwhile to go back to the cricinfo commentary from that era - plenty of games had the ball by ball internet scores - but not all had the commentary that we now take for granted.

Take for example, this one from that World Cup game.

"Boucher was just rattled, he can go have a good sit on the toilet now"

The 2023 win was the most satisfying as a supporter.

The 2007 team was the best and would defeat all of the others head-to-head.

2003 had it covered in my book.

Andrew Symonds coming of age in the competition elevates that side to probably the greatest of all Australian ODI sides.

Ricky Ponting at his peak, Brett Lee at his peak as a white ball bowler - winning the entire thing after Warnie was suspended at the start of the competition. Michael Bevan was also there to guide us home against England - despite coming near the end of his career.

Andy Bichel was great with the bat and ball. Brad Hogg as well was superb with bat and ball.

Just a beautifully balanced side in 2003.

My favourite memory of the World Cup was in a semifinal in Sydney 2015. I was in Bangkok at the time and found a bar where I could watch the game between Australia and India. There was a mob of Indian supporters down the front making plenty of noise, up the back were a bunch of ex-pat Aussies and myself. Australia batted first and made 7/328, Smith got a ton, Finch made some as well. I thought we had it won but the Indian openers started smashing us around at about 7 or 8 an over. The Indian fans were making a hell of a racket, then we finally got a badly needed wicket bringing Kohli to the crease. A couple of overs later Johnson had him caught behind for 1, and the Indian fans went quiet, got up and left the pub. I couldn't believe it, but there you go. Aussies won easily by about 100 runs and went on to destroy NZ by 7 wickets in the final. My memories of the rest of the game are sketchy because I had more than enough beers that day :)

2007 was, off the top of my head
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Watson
Hogg
Lee
McGrath
Tait

None of the other winning team's batting is beating any score this lot put up.
Lee wasn't there, take him out and add Hodge, Bracken and Clark to the squad.

Ahh what a nostalgia trip seeing the 2003 and 2007 golden generation lineups again. Those names...

The depth of the team during that time will never be replicated.

But 2023 will be always be in our hearts, coming up big and taking every opportunity presented to them. Tricky catches caught like taking Rohits wicket just as he was about to go bang, Head with a stunner of an innings on hostile soil.

2003 for me.

Prime Gilchrist and Hayden opening.

Ponting the best batsman in the world coming in at 3.

The class of Damien Martyn at 4.

Bevan, Lehmann and Symonds is an incredible 5, 6 and 7.

Will never forget Pontings knock in the final and Symonds knock against Pakistan when we was in all sorts

I think I'd take the 2003 team as well.

I'd chose Bevan over Hussey and I think the team having Lee swings it more in their favour.

Nathan Bracken is severely underrated.

The 2003 team found themselves in the shit with the bat a few times. 2007 were never in trouble, except maybe when South Africa were 2/200 odd that one game. That's the difference imo.
