Yeah I'm not a wrap for him either...His annoying little "look how quick i can play this phrase" antics are a bit hard to take...Especially when you've seem them all before...

When you listen to some of the late 70's Doug Parkinson stuff that he did a lot of the solo's on,when you cut out all the grandstanding stuff,his playing is actually pretty uninspiring....

I cant believe Brian May, Nuno, Johnny Guitar Watson, Dweezil have hardly rated.

All in all, and i took me a while to appreciate him, Frank Zappa displayed total mastery of the instrument and pushed the boundaries. He finds notes that the other can only dream of. If you doubt me - check these tracks...

For mine those three are the stand outs from about 10-15 other guitarists, some on the poll and some aren't, such as Eric Clapton, Tom Morrello, Carlos Santana etc,.

A guy that i haven't seen mentioned on this thread is a guy by the name of Jose Feliciano. Not many would've heard of him - for anyone that has they are priviledged. Type him into Limewire and see what you come up with.

I don't think anyone in the know actually forgot him and I can't speak for how others come to their conclusion but the reason I didn't put him down was because I was of the opinion that he was pretty much covered.He was a great allround singer/guitarist/writer,but as far as best guitarist ever is concerned,I think thats a bit too much of a compliment...
