Two games will live long in my memory.
1. 1998 World Cup Final when France beat Brazil 3-0. A great day for us Frenchies.
2. Final round of English Division 3, May 9 1998.
Carlisle United 2 defeated Plymouth Argyle 1, four minutes into injury time and seconds away from relagation to the Amateur leagues, Jimmy Glass, our on-loan goalkeeper, ran down to take part in the final corner of the game. A header from our striker, Scott Dobie, came of the cross bar and landed at Glass's feet, he then cooly blasted the ball into the back of the net. The fans went balistic and cheered for about the next thirty minutes, meanwhile at Scarborough who had been celbrating survival, suddenly got the news. Must have been heartbreaking for them, but it was a great night for me.
I heard about it on Sport's Tonight, on Sunday Night. They had on as their play of the day. It was midnight, my wife was asleep next to me, and my daughter was in the next room. When I heard it, I went ballistic myself. My wife was not impressed, and didn't speak to for a week. My daughter didn't stir.
