I must say I do not approve of the new "theatre style" presentation this years best and fairest is taking. This is meant to be the biggest function of the year for the Club and they are making it cheap. I understand that not all people can afford to go to these things. But I went last year and paid about $150, and it was well worth it. As far as I am concerned you get what you pay for, and what they are doing this year makes the award not seem as prestigious.

i totally agree with u Andrew. i had actaully saved the money to go over this year and IMO i think it is something worth the 100 odd bucks it cost. the thing with things like this and the brownlow to some extent, the high cost gives it not exclusivity but intimacy. with the tables and stuff but now its not gonna be like that if its open to all. not saying that not everyone can go. im saying it just loses that bit of appeal. but im still going. :p

And we wouldn't want common folk to go to the best and fairest would we? Oh no, let's just make it a function for the rich snobs who have $150 to fork out for a night of entertainment.

You can't bag something that hasn't happened yet...wait and make your judgement after the function, if you go.

How does allowing the ordinary member into a function make an award less prestigious?

What footyman said was spot on. Why limit the function to corporates and only people who can afford it? Afterall, it's the ordinary member who goes to the games week in week out who keeps the club alive.

What theyre doing is a breath of fresh air. Gives the ordinary member a chance to be a part of something they normally might not have been a part of.

Hear, Hear!

And anyway, it's just the best and fairest. Sure, it would be a good night, but 50 bucks is enough to see a vote count! I've paid for a membership already and with not alot of income, 50 bucks would suit me fine! I mean, it's basically an after match with a vote count and a bit more formality. Big deal.

Its a bit more than that:rolleyes:
Its not just a vote count, there are speeches, entertainment, and plenty of grog (which pleases Travis Johnstone).
My point is, that it is the big formal night of the year for the Club, and it should be done in that way. Surely there are other things the Club can put on that can be at a cheaper price.

At the last after match, there were some speeches, some entertainment and plenty of beer and I didn't pay a cent to get in. All they are adding is a bit extra on each plus a vote count and they are charging 50 bucks.

Sure it's a big night, but I think that lowering the price is a good idea, so the non-posh Melbourne supporters can come along as well.

I've never been to a B&F but I would've been tempted this year no matter what the price was. Having said that I'm rapt it's such good value this year.

I'll echo the comments of some of the others don't knock it till you've tried it!
Ditto these comments, except that I wouldn't have paid much over $100.

its not that. its more the style that they r doing it this year. its a theatre style night as opposed to the table of 10 sit down dinner type. surely they could work out a way to have the table option and lower the cost. surely.

I do agree that tables would be better, as imagine us hooligans on the one table! :D

Again, we can't comment until it's happened yet!

Not everyone that goes to the B&F goes in their tweed jackets and leather arm pathces:rolleyes: (Though you should have seen my one, it came up a treat:D )

All I am saying is that I think it will loose a bit of its class. Who knows, everyone might have a great time and it will be a huge success, but I just prefer the old style.
