With Reid hitting the 50 game mark I was curious who had the best first 50 games at West Coast (as a rookie, no second team player here).

Google tells me that the Eagle with the most brownlow votes in his first 50 games was Kelly, with 37. That's insane. Unfortunately 48 of those games were with Geelong. So, he's out.

Not surprising is Matera at number 2 with 27.

Surprising is McKenna at 3 with 24.

My first though was Judd, so I'm sticking with him as my choice.

Brownlow votes...

Some other fact.

Summa kicked 177 in his first 50.

That's all.

Because I love Summa.

Thanks Peter… the answer is still Chris Judd… then daylight

Judd was a rising star 2002, star in 2003, superstar by 2004

I would say Harley has basically been a star level player all three seasons but next year could/should be superstar, and will make All Australian squad this year along with Ginbey

not my answer, but wanted to note that Turley & Matera’s full vote totals in 1991 all came within their first 50 games (to be fair, Turley managed that in a 16-2 side)

Only 5 games from 2004 counted (Brownlow year). Though they were a pretty good 5 games.

Matera's votes were within his first 29 games (finished 4th in the Brownlow after only playing 5 games in his first season). He was good straight away.

"Only" 9 the following year.

The_Eagles meant that Judd was a rising star of the competition, not a winner of the rising star award.

But appreciate the effort of evidence gathering.

Yep. Looking through the stats yesterday I think there are ten or so that could make a compelling case here, leaning towards the guys who played in the first flag. In more recent times I think McGovern & Shuey had a decent first 50 games (thanks to delayed early career).

If Matera's 50 was delayed a few games to take in the 1992 finals series then him easily.

Peter Matera if you saw him. But he was also a bit older when he started playing in the AFL.

Chris Judd based on age group, best first 50 games I've EVER seen.

Matera for me. He did start later than Judd but Matera's 91 season was insane and even if we don't count the finals the combination of 91 and 92 combined was above Judd at the time imo. Judd's peak for WCE was 05/06 imo and he was very lucky to get that 04 brownlow.
