Best Footy Season

What is the best footy season you have ever seen, in your opinion?

Mine are probably 1996, 1998 and 2000.

1996- I dunno why, but It seemed like such a good season, with unexpected things happening. After all, it was the Centenary Year.

1998- I dunno, yet again. I guess I just enjoyed it.

2000- BOMBERS!!!!!!!

The best seasons are the ones where Richmond won the Premierships.

As a footy fan I would say 1996 and 1998.

In 1996 the best were sorted out from the worst. I would take a stab in the dark and guess that there were 20-25 results that year, which were decided by over 70 points. The Centenary year really comes to mind when I think of 1996. It had the Lightning premiership, Ansett Cup and the Coca cola premiership season. This season also had some thrilling results. Sydney and Essendon played a couple of thrillers, Melbourne and Hawthorn in Round 22 was one of the Games of the year and the Footscray and Hawthorn draw was good. When I think of a close Round I turn to Round 5. Collingwood defeated Essendon by 2 goals, Geelong hung on to defeat the Tigers by less than a kick, Carlton defeated Westcoast vy the narrowest of margins, and Sydney defeated Hawthorn by 8 points at the SCG.
But, 1996 was more than that. It was the memorable clash down at Waverly Park between Essendon and St.Kilda, where the lights went out. It was Lockett at his best, it was Fitzroy's last season, etc. It just stands out very well in the back of my mind.

1998 - Would probably run a close second.

1999 for me. Not just cause the roos won the premiership, but because there was a few teams that actually were genuine chances. There was a few dominant teams, like the roos, essendon and brisbane. The premiership wasn't really assured like it was in 2000 when essendon obviously couldn't be stopped. Plus there was some great matches brisbane v roos in round 14 and essendon v roos in round 17. Also there was some unexpected results like the preliminary final ess v carl. Just an opnion.

It's hard to pick. This year wasn't too bad. Most of the late 90's was pretty good.
