Best Game Endings

I've been thinking of creating this thread for a while, as i think its a most worthy discussion. As games evolve and stories become increasingly awesome, so do the endings. We've seen some absolute classic games recently and, in turn, some awesome endings. Some were predictable, some were out of left field, and some just made people angry (Mass Effect 3, i'm looking at you)

I would like to share, some of my favourite endings. And in fairness to others, please use spoiler tags, so if they don't want to ruin an ending for a game they have not finished, they don't have to.

My top game endings (in no order really)

COD 4

A rollicking story that ended with a bang. When Gaz was shot by Zakhaev on the bridge, i was nearly in tears. COD 4 was one of the first games i invested in heavily time wise. But then when Price throws you the gun, revenge is sweet

Red Dead Redemption

It was a weird feeling when you finished the "missions" and you go back to working on the farm and teaching Jack to be a man and spend time with your wife. It seemed so mundane and so unlike the rest of the game. But then Ross and the agents show up and murder John in cold blood...... It was an ending i didn't see coming and one that effected me greatly

Bioshock

Portal

GLaDOS was such an aweosme character, the way you dismember her at the end is a great boss battle and "Still Alive" is one of the best songs in a video game. I even downloaded it for Rockband

Portal 2

Who wants to go to the moon? Fantastic way to finish the game and then you get your old companion cube back!

The Last of Us

It would be a game ending list without The Last of Us. I've talked much about ND's accomplishment with the TLOU. How they ended it was perfect. Joel could've saved the entire planet, but didn't want to lose someone so close to him again. Ellie asks him why she was saved, Joel lies and you just know Ellie knows the real reason.

Bioshock

That would have been a great ending... but it wasn't the ending. The actual ending was nowhere near as impressive.

Bioshock Infinite, on the other hand, had a fantastic ending.

I'll have a think about this further, but there is one that immediately springs to mind because it was very recent.

Assassin's Creed IV, the final scene with the song that is sung, in a way it really had an effect on me and I'm not an emotional person.

If you saved Zulf, and you're carrying him through the barrage of Ura and they all just stop in pure and total respect for what you're doing, one fires at you and is promptly silenced by the leader

I thought RDR's ending was by far the best as it incorporated gameplay elements to reinforce the power of the narrative.

For me the ending was John being confronted by all the Marshalls. I still remember frantically trying to deadeye everyone. Of course you can't and this reinforced how helpless he was at that moment. It went far and beyond a cinematic ending. Best ending ever.

Trying to avoid RDR until it's released on PC, even though i've had a ps3 for like 5 years.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is right up there for mine.

Out of those not mentioned Prince of Persia 2008 was a standout early this generation.

Infinite ending was pretty darn good too. Took me a while to get my head around it though. Probs why i didn't put it on my list
